  1. Let's go to the videotape!
  2. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=15600 time=1562777627 user_id=68] That's the Chicago broadcast, not WOR's. Notice the debris all over the field? That stuff was flying all over the place like a bunch of crazed bees. Windy day in the Windy City. The whole team had NOB's except Orosco, who was given a last minute temporary replacement uniform because his regular #47 was, apparently, not packed. And Mazzilli had no NOB either, for reasons that I don't know for sure but could probably take an educated guess as to why not.
  3. Note how Jesse has no NOB but Flynn does.
  4. I received these originally from a Mets fan who screenshotted them from a period videotape, channel 9 which I dunno about you was always fuzzy over-the-air to me. Then for whatever reason, I saved them by shrinking them to postage-stamp sizes. It's like the Multiplicity effect by now. Here's the whole series: http://mbtn.net/images/orosco61-5.jpg> http://mbtn.net/images/orosco61-1.jpg> http://mbtn.net/images/orosco61-2.jpg> http://mbtn.net/images/orosco61-3.jpg> http://mbtn.net/images/orosco61-4.jpg> I don't have the original email where the pics came in, and I asked the guy who sent em to send again but so far he hasn't
  5. I caught a foul ball thrown into the stands by an outfielder in 1998; but never one off the bat... In 1983, George Hendrick of the Pirates hit one right to me at Shea. I went to snag it with my glove hand (not wearing a glove, unfortunately) and it smashed painfully off the bony part of my lower palm 3 rows in front of me and across the aisle where a guy calmly picked it up off the floor. I was keeping score and didn't drop the little pencil in my right hand. Dos manos, amigos
  6. Guys I hardly ever heard of playing tonight: Beiber McCann the other catcher
  7. Told ya the Derby would destroy this guy
  8. I was so jazzed about MasterCard I didn't care who batter that inning or the fact that Alonso is at first base
  9. Amid MLB, most of the media and fans all going "hooray for home runs, OMG aren't they great!!" I thought this from Bob Nightengale raised a good point. FWIW, he's probably also among those who also tried exacting a finger-wagging revenge by screwing up the hall of fame vote but what strikes me is that he got hammered on twitter for even raising the issue, just as Wilbon had in the article. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/columnist/bob-nightengale/2019/07/08/mlb-steroids-bud-selig-1990-s-mark-mcgwire-sammy-sosa/1666902001/https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/columnist/bob-nightengale/2019/07/08/mlb-steroids-bud-selig-1990-s-mark-mcgwire-sammy-sosa/1666902001/
  10. Yeah the whole thing was totally unfair to the guy who goes first. The best dinger-hitter in the competition lost in the finals. I kinda wish Pete made a point to give away more than 5% of his winnings. Totally convinced this thing somehow ruins his season and we'll be lucky if he beats the record.
  11. Alonso blows past even the most wild expectations Idiotic trade proves instantly idiotic 2nd year manager somehow worse in second year Despite repeated attempts to bury them, McNeil and D Smith prove worthy MLBers Starting pitching disappoints Awful glove blunts Rosario's progress No young or new relievers step up for a second straight year, despite ample opportunity Guys on multiple teams hate Frazier who nonetheless is playing a bit better and hopefully will be traded Mets fail to capitalize on unexpected struggles in Washington and Philadelphia "Come Get Us": New GM is a Joke
  12. Alonso apparently has been practicing with the guy. He's like his buddy

Lineup is sub-optimal for run production. >> Drop Canó to seventh, and if he has half the character folks have been insisting he has, he'll welcome the chance to hit his way back into the heart of the order. The reality check will be an important precedent for his demotion to pinch hitter next year. Yeah he's about the worst everyday player in the league, and definitely the worst in the lineup, and yet we hit him 3rd everyday. I'm wondering if I can blame him for the fact that Conforto for all his general production isn't really hitting enough. What's the deal with Conforto do you think?
  14. That's cuz we have tended to take less talent for those clubs willing to eat more salary.
  15. Sherman says the Mets have begun talks with the Red Sox on a Wheeler trade, in part because new front-office guys Baird and Banner are Red Sox alumni and familiar with the system. Not said, Baird and Banner prolly got a good laugh from the Reed haul 2 years ago.
  16. don;t care about this but I will root for LaCock
  17. Actually SSs hit better than CFs, on average, and Rosario, right this second, is an average NL CF hitter: 246/312/404/715 (he's 260/299/414/713) On top of that he's 23 and in his second season and it's easy to imagine he'll improve, maybe a lotif he gets being a shitty SS off his plate. The comparison to Lagares isn';t valid beyond both guys not walking enough. Larages is 30, and in decline offensively and defensively, and is a whole level worse than an ascendent Rosario now
