When HCITC first came out, I liked it enough but it bothered me A LOT to discover the singer was a guy. I thought "Nick" in Nick Gilder could be like Nicolette Larsen, and it caused me all kinds of cognitive dissonance... I didn't know how to process the ambiguity and between that and the lyrics lecherousness, it resulted in me deciding that I hated the song. Now that I'm a grown up and evolved, I can admit all that and every time I hear that song now I turn it way up and rock out. What a terrific song. Worth the extra 30 seconds in your life is the extended LP version you never hear on the radio: the ending you hear above is a false ending, and you get an extra little solo and different wind down that makes it like a million times better. Thank you, Nick Gilder, for forcing me to confront my anxiety over androgyny in song. Scroll up to the 3 minute mark
