  1. He's been compared to Michael Brantley so my prediction is Brantley's first full-season pro year: 2-42 300/402/339. Though add a few homers and 15 points to the Slugging average, subtract 10 and 10 from BA and OBP. Narrowly avoids a steroid bust.
  2. This looks like a really good book, nuance is everything when looking at the LOLMets
  3. You don't see that many pitchers who also rock eyeglasses, much less hulking Hispanic dudes. I guess Rhame was our last AAA/Metly glasses-wearing pitcher so I'll predict Oscar replicates Rhame's 2019: 0-1, 4.26 in 5 appearances & 6.1 IP
  4. Yeah I think as kids we instinctively recognized the time- and action-wasting of foul balls (and the possibility they go down the sewer or into the neighbor's yard). Maybe the problem is the 6 dozen balls each game uses? Maybe somehow limiting fouls over the course of a game before they become strikes. "The Mets are down by 1 run here in the 9th, but they have the tying run on and 8 foul balls to go!"
  5. I'm thinking the former of your suggestions is better than the latter, though neither really addresses the prevalence of wiffs and walks as a percentage of outcomes... but might for example amp up the incentive to put the ball in play, maybe via bunt. (maybe 3 fouls and you're out, but you don't begin counting the fouls until after 2 strikes. So then the new full count is 3-2-2. at the same time you whack the rule about a foul bunt being a meaningful strike-event unless there are 2 fouls and 2 strikes. That would also have implications for the defense (do you bring the corners in at a 2-strike, 1-foul count? Does a creative ballplayer try and bunt anyway?
  6. I dunno though. This is an extreme example of what baseball has become--pitchers and hitters each becoming so good at what they do it's devolved into this kind of stalemate that too often winds up in an action-less result (a walk or whiff) and the time consumed by a dozen or more multiple-pitch encounters every game (maybe not a 22 but two 11s in a row, not that uncommon) has inspired them to try all kinds of stupid things to make up for the length of game. I'm not sure what the answer is, refer to the made-up rules) but maybe fucking with the number of strikes and balls (which was done A LOT until the late 19th century) oughta be tried.

  8. Johnson = son of John (English)
  9. Something less than the numbers of the young freaks of the league but an MVP type year in like the 70s. 33-104-290-390-490
  10. Make all games 7 innings and not 9. Addresses the time worries, makes for a tighter project. I'd experiment just for the hell of it, of moving the mound back by 10 feet, but also reducing whiffs to 1 strike. I'd confine this experiment to a minor league outpost in europe
  11. Better than Porcello or Wacha, not as good as Wheeler, in 2021. First Met starter to 10 wins for what that's worth
  12. I made an entire piece of toast with honey on it, and ate it, during Guillorme's ab, and posted twice.
  13. Guillorme is awesome. 20 pitch ab! Still going on
  14. I think of the WKRP carp.
  15. good. I mean I liked him as an O, seemed to murder us as a Brave, at least as I remember it
  16. The big base I think are about cutting down on guys getting spiked or collided with, like the double first-base they use in little league.
  17. 3rd time not a charm. I was nervous the second time, and now there's a stupid rule that limits the proper deployment of a Blevins. I think they'll quietly offer him a gig in Syracuse, hell quietly decline in favor of a part-time gig on SNY. So we haven't seen the last of him
  18. I was barely paying attention last year but still shocked by how terrible his year-end numbers were. That said we shouldn't make too much of a fraudulent half-season in which the Mets were half-trying, or about velocity reports in the first week of March. Unless he's injured he's going to get his shots and must understand by now he's under the gun to deliver. So I'm going to err on the side of optimism and say, unless he's hurt he'll be a neutral kinda middle reliver, with good days and bad, a 3.78 ERA, 35 appearances, a few saves even.
  19. What a great interview! She's a natural. I knew before he answered he was into fishin with his buddies, dogs over cats, and would say getting drafted by the Mets was his favorite thing in baseball. With that background there's no way he can miss. He'll represent the Cyclones in the Class A ASG on his way to Bingo this year. Have a good year. Brodie won;t regret drafting him but regret not becoming his agent.
  20. I'm all meetinged up today too suckzzzz
  21. See i'm totally ignorant of this guy.
  22. I don't know this guy at all. What I gleaned over the weekend is that Hildenberger might be the longshot young vet best suited for the first shot at being the middle deliver we want. So I'm going to say Barnes is an alternate-soter till an injury comes along, then he gets injured and the injured guy returns. 9 appearances, 3.67. couple good ones, one or two ugly ones, all comes out in the wash
