  1. Granted it has more to do with the severe lack of players playing past 6-7 years with the franchise, but we are still waiting on our first guy to break the 15 hundred barrier! Our 1,000 Hit Club 1. Ed Kranepool 1,418 2. Cleon Jones 1,188 3. Edgardo Alfonzo 1,136 4. Mookie Wilson 1,112 5. Bud Harrelson 1,029 6. Mike Piazza 1,028 7. Darryl Strawberry 1,025
  2. Went to the game, saw Captain Intanglibles get hit #2,000. Snapped some pics as well Fourth "milestone" game I can recall being at Saw Don Baylor break the record for most career AL HBPs at Yankee Stadium and they STOPPED THE GAME and had a brief ceromony! And Baylor was a Sawk at the time! That was a real WTF moment Caught Gooden's 100 win as a Met at Shea as well as Clemens 300th win/4,000th K game at Yankee Stadium Speaking of Captain Intangibles, granted he's now the 8th Yankee all time to get 2,000 hits (behind the usual suspects) and it's actually is a noteworthy accomplishment, but I couldn't believe the attention he got for it on Michael Kay's radio show. Basically Kay opened the show with a "Do Yankee fans still appreciate Jeter's greatness" topic with phone calls! Geez, GET A ROOM!
  3. ="Yancy Street Gang"]="Frayed Knot"]I hope your (Yancy's) program has the ability to distinguish future votes for O. Hernandez without adding them to past (and possibly future as well) votes for A. Hernandez. Not back, cooby, at least not yet. I just stopped in to do my Friday Schaefering. I'm making a special Saturday cameo appearance because I forgot to mention yesterday what Frayed Knot apparently remembered. (Thanks, Frayed!) My spreadsheet will be able to distinguish between the Hernandezes. But the voters will have to help: When voting for Orlando Hernandez, please vote for OHernandez. Not dots, please. And no apostrophes, either. (He's not Irish.) Also, when and if Anderson Hernandez returns, please vote for him as AHernandez. Thanks. And I'll see you all again on Friday, if not sooner. Also to add, do don't put "El Duque" even though it is a common name used for Orlando Hernandez, to the point where I'm sure if you asked some casual or non fan who Orlando Hernandez was they'd give you a blank stare, but say El Duque, they know exactly who you are talking about
  4. I'm getting Gregg Jeffereies flashbacks looking at Carson Palmer!
  5. He;s on the cover
  6. I'll take a stab

  9. And Mike & The Mad Dog on the air. Heh, going to be hilarious for those who listen to the Mets via MLB's Internet Radio feed and hearing those two rather than professional announcers!
  10. Well now Fatso and Fruitloops get to call essentially a "Day Off" for the Mets, as much as you can have of course in a late May game against the 5 back 2nd place team on a getaway afternoon game!
  11. Sitting under the Mango tree and now the Mets are in first Sitting under the Mango tree and now the Mets are in first Hey we're doing mighty fine now, but our pitching sucks and how. So Omar brings in El Duque and things will be Okay Sitting under the Mango Tree with my new freind Soler Sitting under the Mango Tree with my new friend Soler!
  12. This of course is the afternoon game Apple

It was raining so sadly no walking down the isle. Bunch of us at our 5 year reunion joked about doing it right there on the spot last year as a gag. Guess it would have taken alot to pull it off!

Cooby has lurked over there though Note to self, remind me to check to make SURE I'm talking about the right person! Sorry SK and Coob Steve

  19. ="Frayed Knot"]]And of course Scully and Gargiola were CLEARY rooting for the better story in the 1986 World Series. That would be the Red Sox over the nationally hated Mets! I never bought that. Announcers root for good series so the Scully/Garagiola duo had to be happier than pigs in shit when Game 6 occured. From an outsiders/national P.O.V. it had been a lackluster and not very well played series up to that point. The factor of who wins creating the best "story" is mostly written by those writers and historians who cover the aftermath, not the in-game announcers who, for the most part, couldn't care less who wins so long as it's interesting along the way. I should have added an SC, but if you asked any Met fan at the time, they'd swear up and down that Vin and Joe were rooting for the Sawks without offering up any evidence. Ditto with Red Sox fans, only the other way around and TECHNICALLY the Sox still were the better story. 64 years of frustration, plus Red Sox Nation wasn't as up front, in your face with their New England Frat Boy Obnoxiousness that permeates Sox Nation since, probably 95-96 While it was the Mets and their fans who were obnoxious, the team everyone hated, hell why do you think the book was named "The Bad Guys Won"

Good thing there's thousands of miles between us, I guess. Heard a radio host once say that thanks to Vin Scully's call of Koufax's perfecto against the Cubs he can't say 2 and 2 without "...to Harvey Kuenn..." as in the call that usually is heard on great Dodger moments, "...two and two to Harvey Kuenn, one strike away. Sandy into his windup here's the pitch, SWUNG on and missed a PERFECT GAME!" Problem is, thats so long ago people don't even recall Kuenn as being the last manager to take the Brewers into the postseason! I'd love someone to ask him, Who the #($) is Harvey Kuenn and why do you say it in that high pitched voice? Who's this Koufax guy? Friend of Fred

  23. ]In no other season of their last 20 have the Mets used a ninth starting pitcher before their 65th game. Man, and that includes the infamous 1987 filled with injuries, drug rehabilitation and starters just going in and out like crazy I'd have to double check, but I'm sure the 12 in 87 is either the most (if not probably the early 60's), or very darn close to: Darling 32, Gooden 25, Fernandez 27, Leach 12, Aguilera 17, Mitchell 19, Cone 13, Ojeda 7, Innis 1, Schulze 4, Candeleria 3, Edens 2 Compare that with a year later and what might still be the least amount of Metly starting hurlers Gooden 34, Darling 34, Cone 28, Ojeda 29, Fernandez 31, Aguilera 3, West 1 (Blast from the past with David West, the GenK, and Kazmir of his day, funny how throw in Aguilera became THE guy we traded for Frank Viola)
  24. Johnny Dickshot wrote: I think the bad lyrics and obvious rhymes are supposed to come across as ironic and intentionally silly, serving as balance to the moronic-but-serious jingleism of M&MD. The truely funny thing is, Michael Kay actually LIKES the song and thinks its the PERFECT example of what a theme song should be, and hates what Steven A. Smith has done with his theme song, which is completely non-jingle in every way possible. Basically Kay thinks theme songs should be corny, snappy and filled with lines that the listener will forever be hearing in their heads, and NOT in a good way!
