  1. A stork is expected to vist the Piazzas ]Piazza, 37, believes he will play again in 2007 but is not certain because there are bigger and more blessed things going on in his life. His beautiful wife, Alicia, is expecting their first child after the New Year. "We'll see, there's going to have to be balance, it's a family decision," says Piazza, who is thrilled with the prospect of becoming a father. "It's going to be nice to share everything you've worked for," Piazza says. "That's what it's all about. You want to give your children a good life."

This is the city that doesn't see out Division Series round games! Too bad there are 4 of them, that would make a great photo for the Triple Happiness thread!

Todd Hundley, 1996 Never hit more than 30 or drove in more than 86 any other year. You know, maybe Phillips going back on his promise to Todd wasn't a bad thing!
  4. Sammy Sosa then leads in this category!
  5. Roger Maris, 1961 comes to mind also. Yes he was the MVP a year earlier and that front porch was tailor made for someone like him but he'd never approach 40 in a year again. I think that year superceeds the topic though due to the fact that its the sole reason people want to put Roger Maris in the HOF, all the others that will be mentioned (Brady Anderson also) do not propell the player in question to HOF debate material status

  7. ="Edgy DC"]That shot above is of Reardon during a Sutter-ish phase. In career Rolaids Mountain Man points, Reardon isn't even on the charts. It's Sutter vs. Hrabosky and no others need apply. Harbosky had a beard? I thought it was a Fu Manchu that puts The Goose's to shame By the way, unlike most of these guys, Al has long since retired the facial hair

No - it was a suspension of belief thing... Actually they did, seemed like both Supes and Kent were off doing the same thing "Trying to find themselves" At least you got the impression that Kent did tell Lois, White, ect that he'd be gone. Superman just dissapeared without a trace
  13. Saves that is: Saves that is: Lee Smith 478 *Trevor Hoffman 456 John Franco 424 *Mariano Rivera 397 Dennis Eckersley 390 Jeff Reardon 367 Randy Myers 347 Rollie Fingers 341 Jeff Wetteland 330 *Roberto Hernandez 326 *Troy Percival 324 *Jose Mesa 320 Rick Aguilera 318 Robb Nen 314 Tom Henke 311 Rich Gossage 310 Jeff Montgomery 304 Doug Jones 303 Bruce Sutter 300 And now... *Billy Wagner 300 Lot of ex-Mets and ex-Indians looking at that list Armando Benitez with 271 is next in line among active pitchers. Todd Jones, Jason Isringhausen and Bob Wickman are the other members of the 200 save club still active
  14. Fair enough, but I've heard that excuse given for why we should have traded Kazmir. Not for WHO we eventually gotten, but you can make a convincing argument against your own prospects. Hell how many times has Reyes been written off as someone we should trade before he really becomes an oft-injured "never was" Turns out that was just a crummy year all around
  15. Edgy DC wrote: ]The Mets will miss the post season..No starting pitching in sight... That last part is a sentence fragment that completely contradicts your calls for Pelfrey. My guess the poor guy figures that the last two bonafide "aces" from our farm system are currently in Tampa (more or less) therefore why bother with the hope that Pelfrey will amount to anything more than a poor man's David West or Bill Pulsipher
  16. cleonjones11 wrote: John Maine blows...Pedro and Trachsel are soooo close to being shot.. Then..3rd Place behind Phillies and Marlins Okay, a team that is maybe 2-3 years away (assuming Willis and Cabrera aren't sent packing, then again, maybe even if they are both traded) from something that might be big and a team that has all but quit on its manager (AGAIN I might add) and shown to be absoulte dogs. What? Braves #15? Please, AOL/TW have the pursestrings so tight that, well they had to give a rookie pitching coach with NO MAJOR LEAGUE experience a shot at replacing a legend and the pitching staff has fallen apart faster than a shoe ignighted by one of his hotfoots. Smoltz has gone on record saying that the young players are acting all "Don't worry its coming" and not doing anything about it. Betcha Smoltz and Larry are deadline deals, Andruw is probably too much of the "face" right now after his MVP run last year to be dealt Nationals? Sure, once the ownership decides what in the hell they are doing in Washington. I mean Soriano is on the block, no one knows exactly whats going on down there. The division is ours by default. I'd be geniunelly worried if 7/31 comes without significant starting pitching help. And I'm starting to think more than one would be sufficient for postseason play
  17. cleonjones11 wrote: The Mets will miss the post season..No starting pitching in sight... Okay, I posted that thread in a jest way of turning around our karma, sure I'd probably face the wrath of some angry posters, but hey sometimes wacky, insane posts can level the tension Umm, but seriously, how in the Holy Hell is anyone catching us? The Fish are too young I've joked about the 69 comparision but I don't see it in this year's Fish, the Phillies and Braves have all but quit on the year, and the Nats are a mess? We are making this postseason. How far depends on who comes here by trade, pickup, minors or whatever for Starting Pitching help
  18. Trying to be funny. Okay, note to self, the material is NOT WORKING, try a different way to channel karma...
  19. I think this might just be another 1969 the way things are going Then again, it worked with Philly so lets give this a try...
  20. ="seawolf17"]Hurry, hurry... step right up and get your Alay Soler rookie cards... Sold for $80 Sold for $63 Up to $58.51 as of this post This pricing has nothing to do with Soler's current or future success; apparently, Topps short-printed the card in their Series 2, which came out this week. It's not even on the checklist. Why they chose Soler to short-print is beyond me. Loses are a burning thing And they make a firey ring Pitched, in a wild fire My card value fell into a ring of fire It fell into a buring ring of fire Price went down down down Rasing Met fan's ire And it burns burns burns Here in Norfolk, here in Norfolk... All apologies to Mrs. June Carter-Cash and Mr. Merle Kilgore!
  21. Gwreck wrote: ="Johnny Dickshot"]Interesting though as Joe & Jon were saying -- Torre managed this like a game he had to have and WWSB didn't. Of course Joe had to have it and WWSB didn;t, necessarily. That's what makes me so damn furious. Maybe he "didn't" have to have it but that shows, in my opinion, a serious disrespect for Mets fans (ie. not recognizing the importance of this particular series). You're joking right? 11 game lead. Yeah its against a team over .500 and all, but still, ITS AN AMERICAN LEAGUE TEAM! This isn't the Phillies, Nationals, Marlins, or Braves. Or even Cards, Reds, Dodgers or anyone we'd be fighting for a WC spot with. By the way, that does jive with what Joe Torre actually thinks about these series as well, hell maybe I am listening to the radio too much and reading the columnists too much, but the bottom line is simple THIS SERIES MEANS SQUAT IN THE GRAND SCHEME OF THINGS!
  22. ="cleonjones11"]="SteveJRogers"]="RealityChuck"]="SteveJRogers"]4 Starters part of a log jam for 2nd all time in the current configuration (and this includes the Final Man voting as well). Reds in 76 lead with 5 Nope. Reds in 1957, with seven starters (later marked down to five). This was fan voting, by the way. Cincinnati fans stuffed the ballot box, voting for all the Reds' starters. Stan Musial was the only non-Red on the starting team. The commissioner of baseball replaced Wally Post and Gus Bell with Willie Mays and Hank Aaron. I said current configuration which meant since 1970 That of course, as well as the year before the Reds had another instance of heavy ballot stuffing (with no internet or foreign country votes to contend with either) was why the vote was taken away untill 1970 Excuse us ??? Chuck thought I made an error, I was clarifying that I was not in error, or I didn't intend for the error, any way to do that without highlighting the words in my OP?
