  1. I haven't had one of those since seeing something in the movie Mallrats featuring it!
  2. September 23rd. Races coming down to the wire, and what is the National Game of The Week on Fox? Mets at Nationals! Huh? Mets should have their postseason slot clinched within the next few days, and Washington has long since been eliminated from postseason contention Did Fox think that the Giants and Redskins were playing that Saturday? Very strange selection, though apropos of how the networks have handled sports in recent years, go for the big market/big national story (Red Sox/Cubs and the long suffering fandoms) rather than the current moment
  3. So we are penciling the celebration either the day before or on the 20th anniversary of the 1986 celebration =
  4. If the Braves continue their free fall tonight, and if we really want to get it done Friday night, we will have to root for this guy to beat the Phillies Friday night: EEEK!
  5. Gwreck wrote: ="SteveJRogers"]I'd rather not see another NL East team as the Wild Card! 1999 is the only time the NL Wildcard winner did not manage to make it to the World Series! You mean the times the Wild Card Winner has come from the East. 4 times out of 10 wild cards isn't exactly a large sample size. I was going for the funny
  6. Get that car ready to drive out of South Jersey! (A little Inside Joke for those following the Standings Thread)
  7. Willets Point wrote: Phillies have a 5-2 lead in the 7th of game 2. Good. The more I see the Marlins the more I want the Phillies to win the WC. I'd rather not see another NL East team as the Wild Card! 1999 is the only time the NL Wildcard winner did not manage to make it to the World Series! Granted they did lose to the NL East winner in the NLCS, but man did they put up a FIGHT!
  8. Mets have clinched all their previous postseason apperances on the field and doing it defensivly, ditto with their LCS and WS apperances so the trivia questions are: A) Who was the Met opponent Pitcher on the mound C) Batter who made final out D) What play was it This is for the 1969 NL East 1969 NLCS 1969 WS 1973 NL East 1973 NLCS 1986 NL East 1986 NLCS 1986 WS 1988 NL East 1999 Wild Card Clincher 2000 Wild Card Clincher 2000 NLDS 2000 NLCS Bonus is same circumstances where the Mets clinched something in their last at bat 1999 Clincher to play in the Wild Card Play-In Game 1999 NLDS Clearly the majority of questions are beyond easy!
  9. 10-7 gets us to 100 Right now I'm more concerned with the 2 or 1 win that clinches the darn division, but here is the schedule the rest of the way: 9/15-9/17 at Pittsburgh 9/18-9/21 vs Flordia 9/22-9/25 vs Washington 9/26-9/28 at Atlanta 9/29-10/1 at Washington Thursday the 14th is our only Day Off in between now and the end of the regular season. I would love to see 100, but with the lack of days off I'm thinking that Willie will be doing more experimentation for 2007 and resting players for October than actually winning after the division is finally clinched. Granted Florida is the only SERIOUS contender left, and I'm wondering if dropping 2 to the Mets didn't take alot out of their sails. Possbility that the Braves "surge" back into the WC race by the time we get down there as well (though the way they've played against the Phils, it looks like they have started thinking about winter plans), and it won't have the same feel September in Atlanta usually does for the Mets This should be interesting to watch though
  10. 1986 108-54 .667 1st NLEast, NL Champs, World Champs 1969 100-62 .617 1st NLEast, NL Champs, World Champs 1988 100-60 .625 1st NLEast 1985 98-64 .605 2nd NLEast 1999 97-66 .595 2nd NLEast, NL Wild Card 2000 94-68 .580 2nd NL East, NL Wild Card, NL Champs 1987 92-70 .568 2nd NLEast 1990 91-71 .562 2nd NLEast 1984 90-72 .556 2nd NLEast *2006 90-55 .621 1st NLEast (17 games left in the regular season) Top Ten seasons in Met History are now ALL 90 or more win seasons!
  11. ScarletKnight41 wrote: I'll take the division whenever it comes - off day or not. It's bad karma to wish against things that ultimately benefit the Mets. I'm not wishing, I'm just saying thats what I prefer. I like knowing the lineage of Joe Torre and Chico Walker being future Mets after grounding out in the respective 69 and 86 clincher. I liked hoping that we could sign Lance Parrish one day to keep that "lineage" going after 1988
  12. ScarletKnight41 wrote: No chance to clinch tonight due to the Phuckin Phillies. It's scoreless in Florida after two innings. If Mets win, Braves win the night cap and tomorow, the Mets could clinch without playing tomorow! I would not like that though. I much prefer watching a celebration rather than knowing that the players are doing it in the privacy of wherever they shall be watching the Phillies-Braves game tomorrow
  13. Well if the Braves win the night cap, Mets win tonight and the Braves win tomorow, the Mets won't have to do a damned thing I'm sorry, I WANT AN ON FIELD CELEBRATION! Not in an airport in Pittsburgh, PA!
  14. No Clincher tonight, see you on Friday...
  15. Anyone know why Chipper Jones is not in the first game? Like I said, they do have an outside shot of the Wild Card. I mean we'd be annoyed if Wright was sitting the first game of this kind of Double Header
  16. Top of the Braves order due up Though a Brave loss does lower the magic number for a Wild Card. Funny, the Braves are in the position we've been in plenty of times in recent years. Close in the Wild Card race, but too many teams to climb over, specifically in other divisions that are no longer on the schedule
  17. Scratch that, Pena in for Pratt
  18. One away and here is Tank
  19. And Rick White on the mound for the Phillies
  20. Phillienow up 6-5 Todd Pratt on deck in the Bottom of 8th
  21. Yancy Street Gang wrote: ="soupcan"]3rd row second from the left, bald guy with the girl with the big boobs? Ah, if only! Actually, I think that guy is Artie Bucco. Size wise he looks more like Vito Safatore
  22. SteveJRogers wrote: ="Yancy Street Gang"]The lumpy orange one. Ahhh, so its more than just an internet posting gimmick! Just joking Big Guy! = Dude, you are not lumpy! You look more like Reed than Ben Like I said a long time ago, you really are Reed "Mr Fantastic" Richards pretending to be Ben "The Thing" Grimm =
  23. Yes I meant 4 for that Dodger run, forgot the 1965 one...
  24. True, but this thread is more about ending the NL East Divisional run, especially considering how fruitless it has been, especially in recent years. All other long Divisional runs seem to include more than just a championship to show for it. Granted 1991-1999 was the real salad days of the run, and that did include 5 trips to the World Series, its hard to really say they deserve to be among the best, even in the NL. Very much like that Dodger run from 1946 (play-in series vs Cardinals) to 1966 (WS loss to the Orioles. Lots of NL pennants, only three rings to show for it. Tell you what, its going to be a trip in Atlanta in a couple of weeks. No one in the building and that FSU fight song playing loud when the Braves are ralling. Its going to be real funny and, ummm, tacky (tackier than playing it while the Braves were down big against the Mets in July since there won't be many in the park)
