  1. Is that their World HQ? Man, that makes the Co-Op city Hi-Rises off of the Hutch look like a bustling Manhattan skyline!
  2. Johnny Dickshot wrote: I dropped off the Dickshotmobile for service just a couple blocks from Shea this morning. I will investigate when I pick it up, prolly early tomorrow. I walked from the garage to the 7 this morning admiring Shea, which is kind of a sad place in November. Same here, kind of an empty "Gee I hate this time of year" feeling. Kind of makes you wish the Dome idea went through and the building could be used year round ala MSG/Nassau/Continental/ect
  3. Anyone know where I can find a place for a pack of beer for a penny to send to somewhere in CT next week?
  4. C Mike Piazza Spent more years than Carter did, and more of his productive years than Carter. 1B Keith Hernandez 'Nuff said. 2B Edgardo Alfonzo Probably the best "pure hitter" the Mets developed since Cleon Jones. SS Buddy Harrelson I'm sorry but two injury free years aren't enough to knock Buddy from the slot...yet. I mean Buddy has weathered the Kevin Elsters and Rey Ordonezs of the world and he's still the best career SS we have! 3B Howard Johnson Like SS, not ready to unseat the current guy on my list...yet LF Cleon Jones "Professional Hitter" CF Mookie Wilson Two words, Game Six RF Darryl Strawberry Probably the greatest offensive player the farm system ever produced. Starting Rotation: Tom Seaver, Jerry Koosman, Dwight Gooden, David Cone, Jon Matlack Closer: Tug McGraw Rest of pen, John Franco, Randy Myers, Armando Benitez Bench: C Gary Carter INF Jose Reyes (Hey he's been around for a while now anyway) Felix Millan John Olerud OF Rusty Staub Lee Mazzilli Len Dykstra
  5. Johnny Dickshot wrote: Isn't it odd that for all the hoohah over the Mets and their 134 3rd basemen, that's really been a position of strength for us for more than a decade now (and hopefully, for another deacde too). 20 to be exact. Hojo really solidified the position for a long time, then the Bobby Bonilla experience, followed nicely by the guy in your current avatar, Fonzie, Rockin Robin, "The Ty That Grinds" and of course the current guy
  6. Opinion: Another Metly example that you really are playing with a ticking time bomb when you work with a patch work pitching staff all year long. Fact: Despite being known as a pitching rich franchise, two guys who with the exception one a one year return, who last pitched for the Mets 29 years ago are still in the top three all time in all major Metly pitching categories
  7. Angels, pitching coach
  8. Opinion: Young Drew Saberhagen can say his first full day on the planet truely was the best day of his father's life, in more ways than one Fact: Cleon Jones is the only member of the Mets Hall of Fame to have played for the Mets to not have a Met uniform be represented on his bust in the Diamond Club lobby
  9. Johnny Dickshot wrote: I don't recall calling Crystal a fraud. Two, what he did is completely opposite of Nicholson in that he did what the director asked him to and Nicholson didn;t. There you have it: Billy Crystal > Jack Nicholson. Never thought I'd say it. Hmmm, sorry, guess I'm thinking of the prevailing thought again as most people (including Met fans) bash Crystal based on the hat in City Slickers, even after knowing why Crystal donned it as a "Thanks" to the Mets/Wilpons for their help with Comic Relief, and the fact that you don't like him anyway
  10. Edgy DC wrote: ]One of several 2003 Mets (Cone, Tony Clark and a couple of others IIRC) who if one or two made the team due to their Minor League contract status would have been nice stories, but because ALL of them made it it was a sign of real concern for that season. About four and half poinds of opinions here. An opinion that turned out to be a fact about the 2003 Mets. Sigh... Allright, Jay Bell: 2nd prominent member of the last non-Brave back-to-back NL East champs Pirates to play for the Mets, a decade apart! J. C. Martin: Saved the Mets' bacon with walk off sacrifice Duffy Dyer

    Kwiz

I liked last years Kwiz better JD. 2 Jose Oquendo? BTW, what is it with #8 and catchers? Guess: Chris Cannizzaro 6: I'll throw out Joe Orsulak
  12. What FK said. Classic case of "Person X (or in this case, Person X and Y as Peterson predates Omar) is saddled with Person Z from an older regime" becoming the sole basis for percieved friction. Usually it's with a manager/coach and a GM (ala Phillips being saddled with Bobby V who was hired under McIllvaine's watch) but usually those with conspiratorial minds (or the need to try to drive wedges between people) will pick on any seniario where a member of an old staff is kept despite a complete overhaul.
  13. Actually my dream was probably an extention of my need to tell as many people as possible that I am going on a trip. What it is I don't know, certaintly not bragging (even if it's a World Series game, why would you venture to Detroit in October, if you live in NY of course) One of those quirky things I do I guess, ala bring library books on the trip rather than stuff I own... I may need help....

I have no recollection of Ding Dong Al is Gone. And the thread is only 7 posts deep. November is the weirdest CPF month on average. (unofficial opinion) Paul Giamatti, the son of the late A. Bartlett Giamatti (ABG) and an actor in Sideways, Cinderella Man, Man On The Moon, ect...
  15. ]Willie Montanez A human hot dog! Jeff Innis
  16. Edgy DC wrote: This has been going on since the dawn of the DH, and tradition has been to allow teams to push their star DH onto the ballot at another position when there is no DH in the game. Yup, but IIRC its only in more recent years where the regular DH played upwards of 140-162 games a year ala Edgar (due to injuries) and Ortiz (due to lack of skill). Usually they justified being considered an OFer or INFer with a decent buschel of games in the field.
  17. Nymr83 wrote: ="SteveJRogers"]Nymr83 wrote: the writers strike me as ignorant or worse. to give a GG to a guy who played 20 games of the position smacks of ignorance to what is actually going on in the league Did I miss something, I thought the GGs were done my managers and coaches? BTW, I'll give you something worse that was undereported and only because the player is one of the current "It" players in the game. How was David Ortiz even allowed to be on the ASG ballot as the AL 1Bman? Plays 10 games a year, and only because the Sox need that bat in the lineup when playing at the NL park during interleague. the AS ballot question is a good one, is there a spot for DH? if so he belongs there, if not i dont think its fair to leave him off the ballot which means putting him at the fielding spot where he played the most games the previous year. i wonder if Steinbrenner will try to put Matsui at 2B on the ballot, he'd stand a chance of getting in When the game is in the AL park there is a DH slot on the ballot. Not entirely sure when that officially started, probably mid-1990's. I know Edgar Martinez was usually the most vote getter a few times in that balloting. Ortiz was it in 2005 Not sure what the heck they are doing next year as the ASG moves to San Francisco so I doubt they'll be doing the DH ballot for 2007
  18. I dreamt I was going to head up to Detroit for a game and I was trying to log on here to post that I was going up. Then I woke up...
  19. One of several 2003 Mets (Cone, Tony Clark and a couple of others IIRC) who if one or two made the team due to their Minor League contract status would have been nice stories, but because ALL of them made it it was a sign of real concern for that season. Wally Whitehurst
  20. Perfect example of what Edgy was saying with that Bill James quote in the Pujols thread.
  21. Be alot cooler if he was Paul though!
  22. Johnny Dickshot wrote: Is this the flick where Nicholson plays a Boston guy who wears a MFY cap? He's such a fucking frontrunning gloryhound ham he refused to wear the costume his character was offered. So Billy Crystal is a fake, phony, fraud (tm Bob Grant) for doning a Met cap in City Slickers and Nicholson is a piece of crap because he refused to wear a cap of his most hated rival? A bit hypocritical there JD. Can't take a person to task because they are giving a team props for helping them out and then blasting someone for not wearing the colors of a team because it conflicts with your rooting interests.
  23. Didn't Cooby try? Anyway, Teufel because of quoting from the Letter of Paul to the Romans tends to get himself in hot water with autograph seekers at card shows! Al Pedrique
  24. Coaches for a college team and has been invited to join this forum, but has yet to respond Ron Gardenhire
