  2. Nymr83 wrote: ="SteveJRogers"]Don't look now but the Yankees are 10 games over 500 and 9 games out of the division. they are 2 games over .500, what are you smoking? D'OH! Scary that I'm an accountant...
  3. 51-41 Thats the record as of 7/16/2007. Playing at a .554 clip which averages out to about 90 wins which would mean going 39 and 31 the rest of the way. Right now the Braves are 50 and 43, 1 and a half games in back with a .538 pace, and they've played one more game than us so far this season. The current Brave emlination number...well it has an extremly happy historical connotation for Met fans and I'll leave it at that. Interestingly enough for as much of a malaise the Met offense has been in all year, they are just 5 games off of last season's pace as they were 55-37.
  4. Don't look now but the Yankees are 10 games over 500 and 9 games out of the division. I haven't listened to any call in shows, but I'd gather Yankee fans along with WFAN's Mike Francessa, 1050's Max Kellerman, Steven A. Smith, Brandon Tierney and bridge jumping Met fans like WFAN's Joe Beningo and 1050's Don LaGreca are starting to make plans for October Baseball in Da Bronx for 2007! Elimination for the Division = 63 Elimination for the Wild Card (7 back) = 65
  5. Mike Bordick assisting the FLOTUS in 2001, though apparantly doing the same amount of help that he gave the Mets a year earlier
  6. I saw the statistic you wrote about -- that Al Leiter when he came to the Mets had more no hitters than the Mets had in their history. How can that be true? Leiter had played just 11 years by the time he signed with the Mets, and they were born in 1962. They had all those games -- 27 [years] times 162 [games] before he was a rookie. You can't be right. Where did you get your information? Jon from Sandy Hook just nudges out Jacob, though I'd suspect that Jon might also be around the same age bracket that Yancy thought Jacob was in. I'm also going to assume Jacob has heard one too many arguments that Mazeroski and Fisk are only in Cooperstown because of their respective "one shinning moments" rather than the actual career performances of both players. And believe it or not, in Bill James' book about the HOF he lists various letters to the sports editior that he had seen through the years arguing this player and that player, one actually listed Don Larsen because of the World Series Perfect Game.
  7. Centerfield wrote: What emoticon is that anyway? I think there are two sets of eyes there. A wink. To say that what I said in that post isn't to be taken seriously.
  8. The extent of Franco's (and Leiter as well) involvement in actually being in Phillips/Willpon's ear about who to get and who should leave both players as well as coaches and managers has never really gotten past the alleged stage as far as urban legends go. As well as the extent of Franco's attempts to "sabotage" Armando Benitez in a coup attempt to regain his closer role. The emoticon is there to acknowledge that yes I understand that right now its mostly hearsay and innuendos and probably stuff that we will never know so I don't somehow start a "John Franco and Al Leiter were the real GMs of the 1999-2004 Mets" flame war.
  9. At least AFAIK Rivera has yet to attempt to get into the ear of TPTB in Da Bronx and mold the team the way The Cap tried to. And while its due to fact that the Yankees haven't even started the process of finding a successor he hasn't tried to sabotage his likely successor in an attempt to keep his job ala Johnny Boy Franco. =
  10. The 396s were there last year Maybe the felt they were superfluous to have 9 dimension numbers rather than the 7 Or maybe it is a conspiracy! There doesn't appear to be any ads covering where they were though 2006 2007
  11. Give me some time Irish, I have some photos that need to be resized and loaded into Photobucket! =
  12. #298 is in the books, just more wins to go
  13. Kid Carsey wrote: I was going to suggest a poll (which I think will show that this forum votes anywhere from indifference to make it go away) but I wanted to poke Mr. Rogers in the ribs first. Interesting observation, even this website: http://savetheapple.com/ has fallen into apathy, either that or there are more interesting causes out there in terms of preservation due to the coming of Citi Field, i.e. The Iron Triangle/Willets Point Anyway my post was more about Soupcan's almost Yanqui like observation rather than The Apple's continued existence.
  14. Kid Carsey wrote: I wouldn't miss the hat and apple either so don't generalize about something you obviously don't have a true pulse on. ' I'm pretty sure the wink and "you sound like a Yanqui fan" was my SC notation as that actually is something a real Yankee fan would throw at Met fans in trying to claim that they do things differently and with more "class" than the Mets do at Shea. Personally, I can go either way. Keep it as a tacky reminder that no, we aren't the Yankees and we don't plan to be the same IBM corporate image that the Yankees since the late 90's have tried to be. Which is a far cry from The Bronx Is Burning Era BTW, not to mention the same Yankee fans crying foul when Stump Merrill demanded Donnie Baseball to get his hair cut are telling guys like Johnny Damon, Randy Johnson and Jason Giambi should "conform" to the way the Yankees are and laughing at the Red Sox's idiot looks. Or not, like the panels that used to decorate Shea and in recent years the neon players, or the old DiamondVision, let it be a relic of team and Shea Stadium history. Let the new place have its own quirks and attractions.
  15. Nymr83 wrote: I like the apple at Shea, but i think of it as part of the ballpark not the team, it should be left out of citi field, let the place develop its own character. remember when Daryl Strawberry homered as a Yankee (was it against the Mets or was it when the roof fell down at their place?) and the apple went halfway up then down? That was the game where Shea was "borrowed"
  16. WOW! Soupy, one of the few Met fans to be openly against The Apple. You sound like a Yanqui fan when you talk that way about The Apple! = What are your feelings about Mr. Met?
  17. Sometime, last year I think, the conversation about the Home Run Apple that currently just says HOME RUN on it and how when it first came into being it was part of the IIRC 1981 "The Magic Is Back" marketing campaign and originally had "Mets Magic" on it for about a year and HOME RUN replaced it. Well I came across a shot that has the Mets Magic sign on it, you can just make out "Mets" but it is a nice shot of the Apple in its early form

  19. Shot in the dark with Strawberry's first year of arbitration
  20. Not 100% sure where I'll be (either Loge or Field) but should be a nice tribute to Ralph Kiner.
  21. RealityChuck wrote: 2. What manager managed four all-star games, but only was in the postseason twice? (The change of rules now makes this much more unlikely, though not impossible.) 3. (easy one) What all-star game didn't have either of the previous year's winning managers managing? #2 I'm going with Al Lopez who managed proper in 55 and 59 and was a replacement for Houk in 64 and Berra in 65 #3 also includes 65 with Lopez and Mauch as well as the very first All Star game in 1933 with Connie Mack and John McGraw as the skippers
  22. (Assume that its at MFY Stadium) Hey Podsednik this is for beating out Jeets for that "Final Man" vote crapfest! HAHA!
  23. Yancy Street Gang wrote: Meanwhile, I plan to record the Brooklyn Dodgers documentary that's going to be on HBO tonight. Ditto. FWIW I couldn't get into that documentary that was on SNY last week on the same subject, narrated by David Hartman. Just seemed very cheaply done, culling from dated interviews (which is okay when subjects are dead and all, but sometimes a fresh interview with Duke or Erskine would be better than something done in the 70s or 80s) plus they didn't have the MLB rights so they only used news reel footage, file footage and probably home made videos. Also the lighting on the clips made me feel like I was watching an old SportsChannel presentation.
  24. I wonder if Ichiro had a party or something to go to? What a "teammate" getting changed while the game was still going on!
  25. Billy and Latin American backstops... UGH!
