Soup, what you need is to do what Frank Constanza would do. Just relax and scream: SERENITY NOW!

I think a long gone poster from the place FK was referencing this morning can be quoted here .

Frayed Knot wrote: Of course I'm only knocking Argenis Reyes because I, like Gary Cohen, am in the tank for Luis Castillo. Marching orders from SNY and Omar ... you know how it is. Riiiiiiiiiiiiigggggggggghhhhhhhhhhttttttttt and its just imaginged that Cohen gives verbal blow jobs to Castillo on the air since he got here. Come on, even YOU'D agree that Cohen's journalistic integrity went right out the window the moment he started the TV gig. Why? Who knows, maybe he figures Hernandez and Darling should be the ones making comments, snarky or straight, about the performance of Met players, managers, coaches, etc and he has to be the koolaid drinker of the booth. He has changed drastically since his radio days, and not for the better.

="Frayed Knot"]"But because it was Castillio who has had a bad, injury riddled year, been given butt kisses all year by the SNY commentators Again, save that shit for those whose paranoia rivals the folks walking around with tinfoil hats believing tha 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind' was a documentary. Oh, so Gary Cohen has NOT become a complete jock sniffing corporate Yes Man since joining the TV booth, and specifically when it comes to Luis Castillo, who is performing quite Roberto Alomar-esque since he came here?

Frayed Knot wrote: ]I was just stating the obvious in a factual statement. Right, the coincidence of him making the last out was why you brought this up in the first place. And it's why you just happened to throw in the stupid nickname and the contract to boot, as if any of this is even the slightest bit relevant in a game where he got on base twice more than Wright, Beltran & Delgado combined and the staff gave up 5 two-out runs. You are putting WAY too much stock in a piffy, innocuous statement written in frustration. Of course if it had been Murphy, or even Jose Reyes who made the final outs of both games I would not have made a comment about their future with the team (or Reyes' big contract). But because it was Castillio who has had a bad, injury riddled year, been given butt kisses all year by the SNY commentators, and will be with this team for three more seasons, yeah my comment had some edge to it. It wasn't meant to lay the blame of the games, or the past week at his feet.

="Frayed Knot"]NO, it was bashing the easy target (complete w/stupid nickname) because him being the culprit is the pre-arranged story-line and whether it's true or not is a non-issue. Go sell it somewhere else where there are eager buyers. Yeah cause there aren't any derrisive nicknames for struggling Mets around here. And again, how was what I said blaming the last two losses on him, I was just stating the obvious in a factual statement.

Frayed Knot wrote: ="SteveJRogers"]And Gimpy ends the game for the second night in a row. Yeah, this game was his fault. Take that shit where they'll lap it up. Little Frayed tonight FK? Geez, that wasn't meant to imply anything, I was just remarking that Castillo made the last out in the last two games.
-
And Gimpy ends the game for the second night in a row. Good thing he's going to be around for another three years! Okay, new plan, 13 game winning streak to wrap up the season.

Frayed Knot wrote: ESPN never has a second game on Sunday - it's one game to the entire country. In fact there rarely ever IS a second Sunday night game (Tex & LA sometimes) because ESPN's exclusive rights to that slot means that a competing game can't even be televised to the local market. (Mets had a Sunday night game @ Dodgers a couple years back and we were all howling because there was no TV at all) Tonight there happens to be three night games but that's just because of last-minute weather-related rescheduling. Not sure if those games got special permission to televise to their home folks or not but ESPN sure isn't at either one. That is also the reason why the Mets didn't have a double header today as well, because of the conflicts with ESPN television.

The Snooze caught up with Kong Where are they now? Former Met Dave Kingman in Lake Tahoe BY ANTHONY MCCARRON DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER Saturday, September 13th 2008, 5:15 PM The man they called Kong and Sky King is laughing over the phone as he drives around his native Lake Tahoe. The subject is his golf game and, Dave Kingman says, theres no comparison between his skill on the links and the days when he was one of baseballs most-feared sluggers. Im a horrible golfer, Kingman says. Lets just say it was easier to hit a moving ball than one standing still. Kingman, who will turn 60 in December, is enjoying a quiet retirement in Lake Tahoe. He has two kids in college and one in high school and owns a local tennis club. He spends time hunting and fishing and just being outdoorsIm a homebody. Lake Tahoe is very quiet, far from the big city life. Very relaxing. While Kingman wont make the final game at Shea later this month, he says he still keeps up with the Mets and other teams he played for, particularly the Giants, As and Cubs. He watches the As and Giants on local television regularly. Kingman was such a powerful slugger in his day that even his popups were events. He hit 442 home runs, 35th all-time and had seven seasons of 30 or more homers. He hit 154 homers for the Mets and four for the Yankees in eight games in 1977, when he played for four teams. He had a .236 career average and struck out 1,816 times, 10th all-time. I enjoyed the 17 years I played, he says. Unfortunately, I wasnt on a championship team, but met a lot of friends. I enjoyed the six years on the Mets. Im very happy and very content. I cant imagine making a living any other way than hitting a baseball. When you take a good cut and pitcher and hitter alike know where its going, thats the joy of being a power hitter. Kingman admits he wasnt as disciplined as the guys today. I admire these guys. I was a free-swinger.Kingman wouldnt discuss the role that performance-enhancing drugs might have played in the success of todays sluggers. Im so distant from that, he says. It was not prevalent in my time, so Id just as soon not talk about it. My last year with the As (1986), I played with (Jose) Canseco and (Mark) McGwire and I admired watching them, seeing how far they could hit the ball. McGwire came from my alma mater (USC). They were great power hitters. Ill leave that right there. -

And what the Brew Crew did last year, though they started that fall in August!

I should be there on Sunday, but be warned, my little voice recorder will be with me, and I may approach some at the tailgate for a few words to say for my blog. And for purposes of the blog I will use Cranepool Forum handles. And don't worry, I won't be debating the merits of Rivera, Jeter, Paul O'Neill or anythingelse that will continue the use of my derisive nickname!

They probably couldn't reschedule everyone in time. Most likely they had a crew all set up for the Tigers/Sox game and couldn't get anything out to Philly.

Today was the 2008 Sterling Award winners from each of the Minor League squads. -
Actually it was the part of a pretty sweet MLB cap collection I had going back then. Which included some throwbacks as well, and I used it in heavy rotation during the offseason. After college though I ran out of room in my place, so they had to go to Goodwill.

I wasn't at that World Series. I was wearing it while up at Farifield University that month. 1) I'm an NL fan, will always root for the NL team, even if its from the East 2) Fairfield was fucking crawling with Yankee fans that I wanted to needle them in any way I could.
