  1. Broxton is blowing this one in the 8th. 7-5 Phillies now.
  2. Frayed Knot wrote: Game 3, 4:00 Lester vs Garza Surprised this is the early evening game. Guess they'd rather have quasi prime-time in the West Coast markets.
  3. AG/DC wrote: Wow, on what planet did they live when they chose him over Seaver? Simple really, the fans voted. Ryan is very Ruthian in the way he has been marketed, especially since he became a Ranger during the explosion of the memorabilia craze.
  4. Frayed Knot wrote: And while Kazmir obviously has talent and is still only 24 I'm starting to doubt his future as a real ace. His slider is only so-so and his penchant for walks, high pitch counts and HRs is going to get him into trouble. Given 5 runs in the first 4 innings he couldn't get through the 5th. They said the same thing about Ryan. Still easily the worse trade in Met history.
  5. Dustin Pedroia with his second homer of the day, now 5-4 Rays.
  6. CLIFF! Kaboom. Rays 5-3, through 4.
  7. Bogar and Zimmer are your other ex-Mets on the bench for Maddon. Quite a collection spanning the eras of Met futility!
  8. Red Sox win 2-0. Matsuzaka with a no-no through 7, despite walking the bases loaded in the 1st!
  9. Yeah but any time a Yankee doesn't hold some sort of record is a good thing! Sorry, just had to take a swipe at Val there.
  10. AG/DC wrote: I think Bruce B.'s just flown under the radar. Scoops from gaysoftball.homestead.com don't tend to get picked up by AP. I think we're sitting on a story here. To be fair of course, I'd rather we sit on it. No doubt he wouldn't want to be outed just because some Met message board has info from a long defunct softball website, and one random post on the UMDB. If he has a story to tell, he'd tell it to a bigger source.
  11. AG/DC wrote: The Berenyi thing is relevant also. Isn't it amazing that almost nobody in the baseball world seems to know that Bruce is out except those on our site. Not really, considering those who remember Berenyi at all probably consists of this site! He is the type of player that you'd only recall while flipping through an old program or baseball cards. The "not the A's GM" Billy Bean and Glenn Burke were outed, but I don't think the public would have cared if they didn't do it on the grand scale that they did. Bean with his book, and Burke from dying with AIDS. It would have to take either a long time star, or even a player who was briefly at the pinnacle (think of a guy who hit 50 homers once for whom I'm casting aspersions on) for people to notice if they were outed the way Berenyi is.
  12. Quick question though, can the Mets at any point give Burgos his unconditional release? If so, what are they waiting for? Due process? Does he have to be reinstated off the DL?
  13. IIRC wasn't Julio Machado involved in something relating to a homicide case?
  14. Whole telecast is slowly being downloaded onto my laptop for some reason!
  15. This will be the 10th time both LCS participants will be from the same division, 5th alone for the AL East! The NL Central and NL East have two LCSs, while the NL West represents the other. And it has been an even affair with the Division winner winning the series 5 times to the Wild Card Winners 4. 1996 AL East Division Champs Yankees 4 Wild Card Winners Orioles 1 1997 NL East Wild Card Winners Marlins 4 Division Champs Braves 2 1999 AL East Division Champs Yankees 4 Wild Card Winners Red Sox 1 1999 NL East Division Champs Braves 4 Wild Card Winners Mets 2 2003 AL East Division Champs Yankees 4 Wild Card Winners Red Sox 3 2004 AL East Wild Card Winners Red Sox 4 Division Champs Yankees 3 2004 NL Central Division Winner Cardinals 4 Wild Card Winner Astros 3 2005 NL Central Wild Card Winner Astros 4 Division Winner Cardinals 2 2007 NL West Wild Card Winner Rockies 4 Division Winner Diamondbacks 0
  16. Who do you root for? AL East Champs Rays or AL Wild Card Winners Red Sox?
  17. Game over, 5-4 finale. Both ALDS series are going 4!
  18. Jered Weaver gets two big outs, Alex Cora is the last hope for the Sawk tonight.
  19. Big Papi walks with the tying run on first to lead off the inning.
  20. And the Angels break through, 5-4, going to the bottom of the 12th.
  21. We are through 12, 4-4 game.
  22. Phillies got 3 votes now? Okay, I assume one is MFS62 due to the whole having his heart and soul ripped out of him 50 years ago and all, so who are the other two? SHOW YOURSELVES!
  23. I'm abstaining from the NLCS, and will root for the AL Champs. If it isn't either the Angels or the Red Sox.
  24. 4th time this matchup has been the National League Championship Series. 1977 and 1978 it went to the Dodgers, and 1983 the Phillies won it. Of course playoff style baseball between these two franchises go all the way back to the Whiz Kids of 1950 beating out the Brooklyn Dodgers on the final day of the regular season.
  25. And Suppan is not pitching like the 2006 NLCS Jeff F'N Suppan. Geez. Phillies-Dodgers, who the hell am I supposed to root for? I mean I could suck it up and keep the NL East alligence, but this isn't the plucky Marlins, or even the former NL West dezines Braves, but the Phucking Phillies!
