  1. ="Frayed Knot":2rtmhpn6]MLB Network has had him on a number of times. He is very good although it seems to me he's might be a bit too "inside" for Letterman. 90% of his audience aren't going to know whether he's any good or not.[/quote:2rtmhpn6] Good point. Though Letterman may just discuss well known guys currently active, or past greats that would be well known. PiggiesTomatoes Jul 13 2009 07:40 AM He was on ESPN a couple of months ago. I'd seen his stuff on Youtube some time ago and love it. Very entertaining. bmfc1 Jul 16 2009 06:36 PM Batting Stance Guy was great on Letterman: John Cougar Lunchbucket Jul 16 2009 06:50 PM More comfy in front of the camera than I'd guess. There was something to the silent YouTube performances that were better than with the running commentary here, but... the Man is a Genius. PiggiesTomatoes Jul 16 2009 07:43 PM What a great gig. Sounds like he also has a lot of interaction and provides comic relief to major leaguers. He was very comfortable with Dave and that was at least twice in the week baseball figured prominently -- he also played catch with Mets fan Edie Falco. metirish Jul 16 2009 08:10 PM I just spent nine minutes laughing my ass off and I didn't expect that. Letterman sounded like he genuinely was loving it , his Rickey was brilliant....Rod Carew was hilarious.......great stuff Frayed Knot Jul 16 2009 09:27 PM I don't understand how he keeps all that stuff in his head. I mean I could (and did) do Morgan & Stargell back in the day (hell, everybody could) but this guy's referencing Phil Plantier for crissakes! I like how he also tacks on some guy's first few steps of running style in addition to the stance and swing. metsmarathon Jul 16 2009 09:40 PM i'm really rather disappointed that he doesn't have a timmy teuffel... Plantier. I'd have to say. Half the fun is how he characterizes the follow-through and explosion out the box for some of these guys. Rockin' Doc Jul 17 2009 08:24 PM I like the ending when he's portraying Mookie waving Mitchell home with the tying run after he avoided Bob Stanley's wild pitch. In the background you hear BSG's little one calling out, "Daddy"! Classic.

  4. I'm inching towards that Kase. It has gotten to the point though where the only thing to look forward to the rest of the way is the 40th Anniversary of the 1969 World Champs in August. Unless changes are made.
  5. I'm nominating all three games from this weekend, 7/3-7/5. As much of a must sweep/take two out of three as a series can be in the first week of July, and the Mets end up getting swept, falling 5 back in the loss column. A lost weekend to be sure.

  7. Sometimes I see both DiLauro and Bobby Pfeil listed amongst the usual gang of Postseason Roster Mets. I know DiLauro actually made it, but what was the deal with Pfeil and the roster? Was he like on the bubble and the Mets decided to go with the extra arm?

The consensus seems to be that this thing appears nowhere except for this roto-site and who knows where they picked it up from. That real news orgs (or even ESPN) aren't touching it makes you think that there's no credible source behind it. So it's probably speculation even though it could be partially or even mostly correct - but I don't even care at this point. When this 2003 list does leak (and you know it eventually will) it's still just going to be merely a snapshot of that moment and certainly not remotely the last word on who is tainted and who is pure. (Merged from 2003 Unconfirmed Steroid list, 6/30/2009) Frayed Knot Jun 30 2009 11:11 AM Except now that if 'Attgig' goes looking responses to his less-than-hour-old thread on the steroids list he won't be able to find it and think he was censored or something. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Jun 30 2009 11:29 AM Tommy Craggs of Deadspin dissects a few problematic aspects of the list. Exhibit A? ]For one thing, Jason Grimsley's name is absent. Grimsley, you'll recall, has been confirmed as one of the Juicin' 104. http://deadspin.com/5304675/why-the-new-alleged-steroids-list-is-a-crock?skyline=true&s=i Triple Dee Jun 30 2009 11:58 AM Even some of the names make it pretty dubious. Call me naive if you like, but I'd be shocked if Delgado ever juiced (Beltran, otoh, I could believe). However, whoever put the list together was thinking; Delgado had a career year in 2003 + Delgado's from PR + Steriods are probably easier to acquire in PR + Delgado's numbers have dropped since 2003 = Delgado's on the list. The formula works for a large percentage of players on the list. seawolf17 Jun 30 2009 12:01 PM The list is patently fake, for all the reasons everyone's listed. It's just too convenient. OO's probably right. It's directing a lot of traffic to that roto site, which probably helps their ad revenue, though. Point being that 'Attgig' is a long-time, though less active, poster who, less than an hour after he brings up a topic, has it disappear on him. Now maybe he reads more than he posts or maybe he just missed that one, but I think sometimes in our relish to "tidy up" the board and preserve those always-endangered threads we don't consider all the angles. In this case, I think both the rush to merge and the brusque 'we already talked about that' didn't do anyone any favors. There needn't be some kind of full-time or not-at-all requirement to post here. Nymr83 Jun 30 2009 12:23 PM multiple threads bump other useful threads to the 2nd page and they create duplication of discussion and confusion. take a look at some other forums and you'll see how annoying it is when unpoliced. nobody is saying attgig or whoever else did something bad, but its proper to point out the duplicate and merge it. attgig Jun 30 2009 12:50 PM ="Frayed Knot":2ptcrfj5]Except now that if 'Attgig' goes looking responses to his less-than-hour-old thread on the steroids list he won't be able to find it and think he was censored or something.[/quote:2ptcrfj5] dangit, where'd my thread go? attgig Jun 30 2009 12:56 PM as for the list, i think it's pretty well made up list, but I don't see how rotoinfo is going to get away with it if it's fake.... even qualifying it as a rumor could open itself up to libel/slander lawsuits..

From what I understand, the "bone bruise" is essentially caused by repetitive knee trauma, caused itself by centerfieldin' with a very, very degraded mensicus. I've just spent 20 minutes of waiting-for-meeting time Googling various of the treatment options. It has not made me feel any better. TEMPORARY Injection of Synvisc ("joint lubrication") is a palliative, intended to delay knee/tissue replacement surgery, and good for up to 6 months of pain relief. Return in 2-4 weeks. Drawbacks: Ineffectiveness, minor knee inflammation. LONG-TERM --Microfracture surgery(drilling of tiny holes to promote blood flow/tissue regeneration in affected area). Drawbacks: Regenerated tissue is more like scar tissue than original meniscus, leading to possible stiffness/less flexibility; includes 9-12 months of recovery time before return to competition. --Cartilage implantation/transfer. Drawbacks: Risk of tissue rejection; significant risk of infection, subsequent surgeries to clear scar tissue; includes likely 16-month recovery period. John Cougar Lunchbucket Jun 23 2009 11:47 AM You guys are overlooking mole reimplantation surgery, whereby a team of surgeons carefully remove Beltran's ear-mole, then implant pillowy portions of it between his kneecap and tibia on both legs for added shock absorption, strength and character. Frayed Knot Jun 23 2009 04:29 PM ="Elster88"]For the record, has anyone seen a report saying that Beltran has the condition that LFWS is talking about? IIRC, bone bruise doesn't necessarily mean "no cartilage". Well, 'loss of' cartilage might be a better way of phrasing it than 'none'. From Will Carrol at 'Baseball Prospectus' Beltran's knees have lost a lot of cushion, so much so that he's occasionally had bruising where the femur hits the tibial plateau. That's very bad long term, and not a good sign in the short term either. There has been discussion of possible fixes like Synvisc, or the even more radical procedure of [meniscus replacement]. Beltran has two more years to go on his Mets contract, but it includes a lot of deferred money. He could be a good fit for a deal to an AL club this offseason. Now it probably should be pointed out that Carrol has, in the past, shown a tendency to treat assumptions as facts and that there are certainly degrees of cartilage loss that needn't mean major surgery. Edgy DC Jun 23 2009 07:21 PM Maybe he becomes a good fit, Will Carroll, but he also becomes a five-and-dime man. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Jun 23 2009 07:49 PM ="Elster88"]For the record, has anyone seen a report saying that Beltran has the condition that LFWS is talking about? IIRC, bone bruise doesn't necessarily mean "no cartilage". A bone bruise in the knee is just that-- bone on bone due to loss of the meniscus or other cartilage. He's had three stretches in the last two years where he's either missed time or been hampered by a "sore knee" or "bruised knee" (mid '06, late '07 and earlier this year). As these things tend to be degenerative-- your meniscus sure as hell doesn't grow back on its own-- that doesn't bode well for time #4 (especially since uncommonly-tough Beltran is the one saying he can't play through this). Though Carroll is a bit of a leaper sometimes, gun-to-head, I'd probably bet it's closer to a worst-case scenario than the best-case one. Beltran as something other than the Beltran we've known is a somewhat depressing thought. That said, getting F-Bomb some apprentice work in center-- with one of the world's finest tutors at his elbow-- doesn't seem like a terrible idea.
