=Ceetar post_id=107916 time=1663627774 user_id=102]unlike the Mets, the Brewers are on board with the more much reasonable 6:40 local start.

The only things that could make that sweeter would be if (a) there were two outs, and ( the Brews were down by three. Oh, wait. They were down by three. Only one out keeping it from being the most dramatic homer possible. Eduardo Escobar cameo there too, scoring the third run.

Interesting philosophical question: should there be a celebration for clinching a playoff spot? Or should the Mets wait to celebrate until the division is clinched?

Certainly. The Mets have a real roster crunch coming though. They're limited to 14 pitchers: 5 starters: deGrom, Scherzer, Bassitt, Carrasco, Walker 3 relievers with guaranteed spots: Diaz, Ottavino, Lugo That leaves 8 guys for 6 spots: Peterson Megill May Smith Williams Givens Rodriguez Hunter For purposes of this analysis, we'll assume Nogosek and Claudio aren't really in the running.

Should start Saturday in Oakland, and then again the following weekend in Atlanta. Should reach 60 without issue.

It's a good time to be doing well given the upcoming roster crunch with Scherzer, Megill, and Smith all coming back. I still think Joely should be real concerned about his spot, though.

=Gwreck post_id=107802 time=1663532028 user_id=56] A second inning of Joely Rodriguez in a game-critical situation does not strike me as a winning move.

I don't disagree that Pete could use a day off (or some half-days at DH) but does adding an extra lefty bat really help? Would you play Smith over Vogelbach? Or over Ruf against a lefty? I could also see an argument that Terrence Gore isn't really needed.

Cardinals would be 5 back with a Mets loss tonight. Mets also hold the tiebreaker having won the season series, so it's really a 6 game lead.

=bmfc1 post_id=107300 time=1663189113 user_id=73] JD Davis just drove in Jonathan Villar with a double. It was Davis' 2d hit of the game. Ruf has 7 hits as a Met.

Disagree. The point behind expanded playoffs is to increase revenue by having more playoff games. That's far and away the driving factor behind expansion. There are some downstream effects, sure, but no one is deceived into thinking that Kansas City or Miami or Anaheim is in a playoff race, nor is there some reward to those teams for not being officially eliminated yet. There have been no more than 7 (maybe 8) teams in each league with any realistic chance of making the playoffs and it's been that way for weeks.

This is an existing DH rule. You can insert your pitcher in for the DH in the batting order (at which point you lose the DH). I've never seen it before, in an AL or NL game.

Seaver was hurt though, and not actually on the roster, right? Gooden was on the active roster and just didn't get into a game.
