  1. Would be a nice time to hit one out here, Ramon.
  2. 8 runners left on through 4 innings for the Mets.
  3. ] but it might take 2 singles to get Ramon in. Apparently not. Good job Castillo. Keep chipping...
  4. Church = leading the league in outfield assists. I think. Edit: Church has 6 now. Xavier Nady has 7.
  5. Time for us to chip away a little more. This game is totally winnable.
  6. Maybe, although given the use of Vargas in long relief tonight sure seems to signal a ticket back to Norfolk for Muniz.
  7. Marlins at Braves: Smoltz, back as closer off the DL, blows the save on a Hermida RBI single and an error by his left fielder. Kevin Gregg of the Marlins then blows the save in the bottom of the 9th on a wild pitch. Going to the 10th. MFYs at Twins: Back and forth game where, after the Yankees take the lead in the top of the 7th, Mauer hits the tying HR off Pettitte and the next inning, Delmon Young RBI single off Farnsworth to take the lead. Twins hold on to win.

  9. Roster crunch time again. Pedro will be activated for his start tomorrow. Pelfrey and Muniz have options but neither has exactly pitched (recently at least) in a manner to warrant a demotion. Vargas and Heilman seem unlikely to clear waivers. My prediction: Muniz back on the Norfolk shuttle; Vargas to the 'pen.
  10. I'll bid one dollar, Bob. Oh, wait. .341

This past offseason was the first of the 3 arbitration years. He and the Mets agreed to a 1 year, $2M deal to avoid an arbitration hearing. He is still under the Mets control for next year (and '10). I am glad I was wrong on that -- so therefore our only big holes next year are left field, first base, and two starting pitchers.
  13. Perhaps you were remembering that Delgado leads all players not named Barry Bonds in home runs hit into McCovey Cove.

They fly in the lap of luxury, on a chartered plane -- they should arrive in SF by 3 or 4 AM; they stay in a five star hotel; the game starts at 7 that night. Let's say -- generously -- that they need to be in the ballpark by 2:00 that afternoon, that's still plenty of rest and recovery time.

Nymr83 wrote: Santana, Maine, Perez, and one of Pelfrey/Humber/etc likely means secent money will be spent on one starter not two, with the usual bargain bin 5th starter types hanging around hoping for a chance. Perez is a free agent at the end of this year and a Scott Boras client. Philip Humber is property of the Minnesota Twins.

Same thing with the LoDuca deal, and possibly the Delgado deal as well. Additionally, the Cameron deal -- again, perhaps undervalued -- needs to be looked at in light of the fact that we traded away the last year of that deal in quite productive fashion.

Maybe it's my rose-colored hindsight glasses, but I can't remember Bradford *ever* having a meltdown-type game. His only homer surrendered was in extra innings when he was the last man out of the pen, I believe.

  19. This is the place to go for salaries: Cot's Contracts. Thoughts: 1. The Mets shed Delgado's contract save a $4 million buyout they will owe him. They also lose El Duque, Perez, Alou and Church (another 25 million or so). 2. I too would like Texeira but the Yankees also have a ton of money coming off the books and will also be looking for a first baseman. 3. We'll also need to sign a left fielder, right fielder and 2 starting pitchers.
  20. Great game. Found some excellent seats at cheap prices -- I may never be able to go back to the Mezzanine ever again. Couldn't believe that they actually have waiters that bring your food to your seats. During one of the half innings, the diamondvision showed some Joe Morgan highlights and then put a shot of him in the TV booth on the screen. Plenty of boos. The Wright-initiated DP was sweet but lots of credit to Castillo for turning it on an inaccurate throw by Wright to second. Schoeneweis was pumped up after that groundball he induced -- big fist pump into his glove. Beltran's homer hit the top of the GHI health plans sign, which is the advertising sign on the bottom right corner of the scoreboard. Excellent end to the homestand. Our next seven series include the Giants, Padres, Mariners, Rockies and Rangers (five of the worst teams in baseball). Time to go on an extended run of winning series 2-1 or 3-1 (or better).
  21. The double-play at the plate will go down as the most memorable moment of NLDS '06 game #1 but for me, that game will always belong to Carlos Delgado -- first, hitting his first-ever postseason home run (and it was a massive shot -- I think 470 feet?) in the 4th to tie the game up; then, in the 6th, hitting the RBI single to give the Mets the lead again (the Dodgers had just tied it up). I know how much people are down on Delgado right now, but in '06 he was the MAN. Delgado's fist pump after hitting that single was perhaps the most excited I've ever seen him at Shea, even more than that grand slam for homer #400 vs. the Cardinals.
  22. Pelfrey 3.25 Beltran 2.25 Tatis 1 Sanchez 1 Wagner 1 Delgado .75 Wright .75
  23. I think such instances are limited to once per year or some clause like that.
  24. All-star cast from your Crane Pool Forum in attendance today. Was very nice to see and/or meet all of you. I too woulda put in a pinch runner for Casanova in the 7th (I was thinking either Maine or Santana). Glad to see Willie decide to do one in the 8th though. Glad to see us finally get Broxton. I don't think we've ever had any success off Broxton (or Saito) -- very satisfying.
  25. Castillo 2.5 Wright 1 Reyes .5 Beltran .5 Muniz .5
