  1. Glad to here the skyline is moving to the new park. Love the bullpen car photo here: http://i.cdn.turner.com/sivault/image/1973/10/17/001312199.jpg[/url]<br Did they really have a big hat for the car for every opponent?
  2. I would count on *exactly* the opposite. I suspect they'll wait as long as possible before calling it.
  3. I guess this is the official thread now? 1. It's still too close to call whether we get the game in tonight. The rain has stopped here in midtown for now, but the forecast still calls for a 90% chance of preciptation tonight. Whether we play is entirely dependent upon the pattern of the storm approaching from the south. It may well pass to the east of Queens and allow the game to get in. I think we play. If we don't, we would almost certainly play a doubleheader on Saturday. The Mets would certainly prefer to do the game as a separate-admission DH, with the tickets from Friday night being valid for a game to be played probably at 7:10 or 7:40. To do this, they'll need a waiver from the player's union, as the CBA limits the number of day/night DHs that can be played per team, per season. Playing a single-admission doubleheader on Saturday might be preferable for the players but would leave a *lot* of ticketholders from Friday's game angry, especially given that 1. They cannot exchange for a game this season, as Sunday is sold out and Saturday's is pretty well sold too 2. Despite stated policy, they cannot realistically exchange for a game next year, as the Mets don't know what ticket availability will be. 3. It'll be the last game at Shea for many. Hence the separate admission doubleheader being extremely likely, IF we don't play tonight. I predict we *do* play tonight (reserving the right to re-evaluate at 4 PM).
  4. Winner emails go out first, then loser emails. Keep your fingers crossed.
  5. I'm told that "winner" emails are now going out for the NLCS.

Sometimes, I wonder what the fuck is the problem with the Mets and their medical staff. Two different things here. One is a medical opinion, the other a managerial decision. That's a fair point. Just like with Church, the medical staff and the baseball staff (ie. Jerry) can't seem to get on the same page
  7. NY Times Article Here: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/26/sports/baseball/26pilots.html They quote a Delta pilot whose name is -- no, really -- Mike Piazza.
  8. Switch him and Oberkfell. I've been saying it ever since that game against the Phillies where he lost us* the game by sending two runners to their death at home plate. * Well, him and the 'pen giving up 7 runs in the 9th.
  9. Wow, how bad must Marlon Anderson's defensive skills be that he can't even get consideration in fantasy-Jerry's consideration of 2B options?

  11. All I can say is thank you [insert deity of choice]! That and I'm glad to be home and dry. Pedro did a point/wave to both sides of the stadium. I think he was aware that it could be his last start, ever. I was thinking that both Cancel and Martinez should have been hit for. Guess not. I also thought that Aguayo was an idiot for sending Church and was screaming "nooooo!" even before Church's great side. Bunting is for losers and I agree that Jose could've just stolen that base himself. No need to bunt with Murphy up there. Hell, if we *really* needed to bunt, he should've just put Endy up.
  12. I don't usually laugh at this stuff but for some reason, this article from The Onion worked today.

    Get Up

holychicken wrote: Sorry, can't do it. I have taken one too many shots to the crotch this year than I can emotionally or physically handle. Seriously, is there any count on the number of cock-punching loses we have had to endure this year? I'll do the count later this year but I have little doubt that I was at most of them. I will be back at Shea tonight, again. I have a winning record this year at Shea (instead of the unsightly .400 clip I had last year) so maybe that's a good omen.
  14. Wow. I counted 3 moments of elated celebration, 3 stomach punches, and two kicks to the groin. I think. I was pleased to see the stadium mostly filled but the crowd was poor overall, especially when the Mets needed them most (and I don't just mean the bottom of the 10th). Both the most exciting game and biggest surprise loss since '06.
  15. I think it depends in large part on how much travel would be required A. for the visiting team to get to the tiebreaker game and B. Where the winner/loser would have to fly to after the game. If they play at Shea, the Brewers would be coming in from Chicago and the winner would be returning to Chicago for a day off (Tuesday) before playing the Cubs on Wednesday. Seems to me no problem doing it at night. Now, if a rainout forced a makeup on Monday, and then a tiebreaker on Tuesday, the tiebreaker would probably be a day game.
  16. Nothing, again. Keep your fingers crossed. I think I got into game 7 of the NLCS in '06 on something like the third-chance drawing.

  18. Nope.
  19. A Thursday Mets-Cubs rainout gets played Monday, if necessary. A Friday Mets-Marlins rainout gets played as a separate admission double-header on Saturday, 1:10 and 7:10/8:10. A Saturday Mets-Marlins rainout gets played Monday, if necessary. A Thursday Phillies-Braves rainout gets played Monday, if necessary. A Friday Phillies-Nationals rainout will get made up on Sunday, as they are the national TV game on Saturday afternoon at 3:55. A Saturday Phillies-Nationals rainout will result in a doubleheader on Sunday. No rainouts in Milwaukee. Any tiebreaker games would be played on Tuesday if rainout makeups are played Monday.

  21. Yes, game 1 is Wednesday. 7 days rest is fine by me too, although given that he's been awesome pitching on his regular 4 days, I don't want to screw anything up.

  23. We're only accepting answers in groups of three, but I can safely assure you that Tony Womack never came close to 100 RBI in a season. All of the right players were mentioned, just the wrong combinations. 99 Diamondbacks with 100/100 were Gonzalez, Finley and Bell.
  24. Even if Tampa gets best overall record (rather than the Angels) it won't have any impact on the first-round matchups: East Division winner v. Central Division Winner Angels v. Wild Card
