Matchups are OAK vs. Wildcard, Tiebreak winner vs. DET Tiebreak game is at Baltimore on Thursday, 7:10 PM. AL Wildcard game is Friday at 8:37 PM TEX at NYY or BAL at TEX
  2. Manny Acosta? Late in the game with the bases loaded? There's no way this can go badly.
  3. Apparently he's been pitching with a torn abdominal muscle...since April 13. Surgery is scheduled for October 18.
  4. Yep. Adios Howie and Josh too. The broadcast MVPs for me this year; they were great together.

  6. 3rd pitcher this inning. We better win this one soon or Terry's going to have to start giving relief innings to Niese or Harvey
  7. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Is this one over? I was watching Texiera fail again. Neither one over. Cano goes down as well so they're going to extra innings there too. Too bad, they nearly finished that BOS-NYY game under three hours.
  8. Realizing we'd have to use a righty...I still might hit for Thole here.
  9. Blown saves are 30% more enjoyable when Heath Bell is involved.
  10. Ceetar wrote: It's also not true. Sure. Jason Bay and Andres Torres are bound to have break-out seasons again.
  11. Yes, they should have specified that the Mets don't have any "outfielders that would start on .500 or better teams"
  12. Mets Willets Point wrote: Not sure these are good comparisons either. DFJ at 30 was on a team that had 7 World Series appearances in the previous 9 years (and had just missed another WS by one game). CFJ at 30 was on a team that had 11 straight playoff appearances with 3 more to come. The best comparison is finding a team has been dismal for half-a-decade and still hangs on to their best player despite few realistic chances of that malaise ending any time soon. Tony Gwynn in San Diego? Occasional good years (84, 98) and some bad ones in between?
  13. Ummm, let's see: 1. No matter what happens this series, the Marlins will finish last in the NL East. 2. No matter what happens this series, the Mets will finish fourth in the NL East. 3. [crossout:apxiw9ja]No matter what happens this series[/crossout:apxiw9ja], It is likely that Ozzie Guillen is getting fired at the end of the year. Pitching matchups: Dickey starts Tuesday against Jacob Turner, who the Mets just recently beat in New York a week ago. Monday is Jeurys Familia v. Wade LeBlanc. Wednesday (4:10 start; they just can't wait to end this season) is Jeremy Hefner vs. Mark Buehrle.
  14. Milwaukee lost and was eliminated. Both St. Louis and the Dodgers won; still a 2-game difference between them.
  15. When is it about Joey Votto and 1.051 OPS that makes him a one-dimensional player?
  16. None of Jurassic Carl?
  17. Thanks. Love the cartoon. Sorry about the short KTE; with Bruce S. in town, things are a bit busy and the Mets seem to be (deservedly?) getting the back burner. Planning on going to the game Sunday (and selfishly hoping that's when David breaks the record).
  18. Just the basics: This series is the battle to avoid last place. Mets are a half game ahead of the 66-84 Marlins. Mets are 8-4 against Miami this year. Pitching matchups: Friday: Jacob Turner ® vs. Niese. Turner was one of the Tigers key pitching prospects who Miami aquired in the deal for Anibal Sanchez and Omar Infante. Has never faced the Mets. Saturday: Mark Buehrle (L) vs. Dickey. Buehrle has three starts against the Mets this year, the first two of which were reasonably good. Mets knocked him around a bit a few weeks ago. Sunday: Ricky Nolasco ® vs Chris Young. Mets haven't seen Nolasco since May, when they got 6 runs in 4 2/3 innings off him. Hits Record David needs five hits to set the new all-time Mets record. Hes never faced Friday starter Jacob Turner. Hes 3 for 9 with a homer against Buehrle for his career (all this year). 3 for 6 against Nolasco this year with a homer. 20 Wins watch Dickey may or may not be facing Gincarlo Stanton this weekend; he has a strained oblique and has been out, possibly returning Friday. Ex-Mets Jose-Jose is hitting .288 and may fall short of his stated goal of getting to .300 for the year.
  19. Vegas is official, per Burkhardt tweet.
  20. Let's go, Shoppach
  21. Howie and Josh pointing out that Hairston against a right handed pitcher is a lot better option than Torres here.
  22. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Um, Ike bunting. W.T.F. Can somebody please hit Ike and/or Terry and/or Teufel and/or whomever with a blunt object until they STOP FUCKING BUNTING.
  23. [sorry, a short one. Product of a busy work schedule and me admittedly forgetting we played the Marlins this weekend]. Miami: What's Happening? Ah, the Marlins, again. Haven't won a series since they played at Citi Field earlier this month. No improvement since that time: they're still in last place, 2 games behind the Mets. They haven't traded anyone else away but injuries for the players they do have don't help. Ozzie seems to be taking things a little hard with the injured players, noting that "Guys play bad, have surgery, rehab, and I'm the one who is going to get fired." He promised to have less patience with injuries next year: "Same philosophy, less bull," Guillen said Wednesday. "That's going to work better." "We paid them a lot of money for them to play for us. They've got to respond to us -- to the Marlins." (Story here: Link) Pitching Matchups: Friday: Nate Eovaldi - R v. Dickey This will be his third start against the Mets in the past 6 weeks (1 with LA, 1 with Miami). Threw 5 scoreless innings at Citi Field earlier in the month during the 13-0 loss to Miami. Has a 1.67 WHIP on the season and walks a lot of batters however, so there's really no reason why the Mets shouldn't be able to do better. Got knocked around badly (6 runs, 3 homers, 3 innings) in his last start against the Dodgers. Saturday: Josh Johnson - R v. Hefner Was the losing pitcher in the one game the Mets won against Miami earlier this month. Torres had a double and a homer. 4.00 ER and 1.33 WHIP for Johnson suggest that he's just not the same dominant pitcher he was before getting injured last year. Sunday: Mark Buehrle - L v. Chris Young 12-11, 3.62 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in 26 starts for Buehrle this season. Another solid year for the one player who never gets hurt. 2 prior starts against the Mets earlier this year; held them to 8 hits and 2 runs in one start; 6 hits and 2 runs in the other. Wright and Davis hit homers off him. Jose-Jose-Jose: "We still have one more month of baseball left," the Marlins shortstop said. "I have one goal on my mind: to hit .300. Less than that is going to be unacceptable." (Story here: Link) Jose was at .220 at the end of April and .264 at the All-Star break. He's now up to .283 (.345 OBP and .438 SLG).
  24. Frayed Knot wrote: Eh, even a four-run lead with only three outs to go, winning is like a 98% probability. Or, with our pen, about 60/40 Leadoff man reaches, I say now 50-50 at best.
  25. Wow, Terry left Bobby Parnell in to hit for himself. I presume we are still changing pitchers for the bottom of the 10th.
