With all due respect, this makes no logical sense. Even if your claims of "arrogance and smugness" were true (I'd ask for an example but how would one even prove that?), that still provides no basis for motive or justification for disregarding the analysis. "The sincerity of most of his statements?" What, is he being impolite? Or do you want to just come right out and say that he's making shit up?
  2. Yeah, he has no idea whatsoever what he is talking about.
  3. Ceetar wrote: I think there is a VERY strong possibility there was no Wheeler offered for Reyes, and that Alderson DID ask around. I think he was probably serious about considering keeping him, especially when it looked like he hamstring might drive down the value a bit. It is possible that there was no Wheeler-caliber prospect to be had for Reyes. It is not at all possible that management was serious about keeping Reyes beyond 2012, as so clearly evidenced by their failure to even make an offer.

  5. This Nickeas deal keeps alive the longest active Mets trade chain: Tim Bogar --> traded to Houston for Luis Lopez Luis Lopez --> traded to Milwaukee for Bill Pulsipher (his second Mets tenure) Bill Pulsipher --> traded to Arizona for Lenny Harris Lenny Harris --> traded to Milwaukee (with others) for Jeromy Burnitz (his second Mets tenure) Jeromy Burnitz --> traded to Los Angeles for Victor Diaz Victor Diaz --> traded to Texas for Mike Nickeas Mike Nickeas --> traded to Toronto today

  7. metsmarathon wrote: pfft. we already conceded the next 6 years when we didnt bring back reyes. We conceded 2012. Not 6 years.* wait. then we recommitted when we kept wright for 8 years. and now i guess the first 3 of those are off again? This is the confusing part. Beltran was traded for a key prospect; Reyes was allowed to walk, Dickey traded for a key prospect(s). Jason Bay was released. These are the steps a team makes when trying a rebuild. Yes, Wright figures to remain productive for several years of his contract beyond the first one but a true rebuild would have dictated trading him either 1. Prior to the 2012 season or 2. Prior to signing the extension. *Yet, at least. I suppose the best possible hope is that we haven't conceded 2014 yet.
  8. Ceetar wrote: Well, Wright, Ike, Niese, Harvey, Nieuwenhuis, Duda, etc etc. Some of the other 25 will capture our hearts I'm sure, that's how baseball works. I mean, it's not like Mets fans packed the park for Dickey starts. That would be the problem that all teams with four straight losing seasons face, particularly when they price their tickets as if they're perennial contenders. For the record, I think the trade is a good one. And is another good move by Sandy. But also speaks volumes that the Mets are planning on finishing in third or fourth place* in 2013. *I assume there's no way we can be worse than the Marlins in 2013.

  10. Wright gives statement, says today's reports are "inaccurate." http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/11/david-wright-reports-are-inaccurate.html "I have said from Day 1 that I want to play my entire career with the New York Mets. I remain hopeful that goal can be achieved. However, I am disappointed by the reports that I have read today which are inaccurate," said Wright.
  11. I like that ballot, except I would put McGwire into the solid "yes" category. 11th on the career list in Adjusted OPS? Plus all the counting stats, etc. Compare to Sosa being 190th on that same list. I would vote for McGwire, Bonds and -- yes -- Clemens without hesitation.
  12. Carlos Ruiz, suspended 25 games for amphetamine use, per Rubin twitter. [crossout]Couldn't happen to a nicer guy[/crossout] too bad they didn't get Utley too.
  13. A rare moment of the unvarnished truth coming from Randy Levine's mouth: We tell our people if you want to be bipartisan and fair, dont work for YES. More here: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/11/24/sports/baseball/change-in-yes-ownership-unlikely-to-alter-yankees-heavy-format.html?ref=sports
  14. He wins
  15. Sayeth Buster Olney: The Blue Jays-Marlins trade is done... This is going to be one of the all-timers, with Reyes, Johnson, Bonifacio, Buck, Buehrle...holy crow.
  16. Bay was owed $13 million for 2013, plus a $3 buyout of a 2014 option year. (There was also a vesting option for 2014 based on plate appearances but we can safely assume that would never have happened). Maybe the Mets made it clear to Jason that he'd never be more than a pinch hitter and, I don't know, they saved a million or two by just releasing him now?
  17. I thought the question was who do you think will win, not who do you want to win. Tigers in 5. Giants have nobody comparable to Verlander in their rotation and are actually going to start Barry Zito against him both times (really). Tiger rotation is very deep and well-rested; I don't see them needing much bullpen (think the White Sox in 2005). Also, on more of a "hunch" basis, I see Valverde returning to effectiveness when he does pitch.
  18. Ceetar wrote: Look, Erin Andrews is a reallllly bad baseball sideline reporter. It's probably just because she hasn't watched a game or been part of a broadcast until the postseason, but either way she adds nothing to the broadcast if you're going to talk to her without putting her on the screen. Nothing to say about what Ken Rosenthal looks like?
  19. Vic Sage wrote: i get why SF over StL, but why Tigers over Giants? 2011 - Cardinals 2010 - Giants
  20. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Yeah, Twitter's really an idiot's delight. Isn't it more likely that there are a lot of stupid people who used to be appropriately marginalized but have become empowered to spread their idiocy through things like Twitter? Twitter has a very handy "block" function. People just need to learn how to use it.
  21. The Cardinals and Tigers also matched up in 2006 (I know, probably no one here watched that one).
  22. Is this a parody twitter account set up shame the bigoted wing of the Cardinals fanbase...or something worse? I just can't quite tell. https://twitter.com/BestFansStLouis/
  23. I am positive about how that inning unfolded. Unless I reversed the order that Valentin and Chavez batted.
  24. The last Met to lead team in hits (not Reyes or Wright) is also a trick question. Didn't Angel Pagan have more hits than David during one of the years that Reyes was hurt?
  25. Last hit in the postseason was Jose Valentin. Chavez single, Valentin single, Floyd strikeout, Reyes (I forget what he did), LoDuca walked.
