  1. Interesting question. Of the 5 NL teams that will make the playoffs in 2015, where do you rank the Mets? Honestly? I see us as #3 at best, and maybe #4. It doesn't mean we won't win the NLCS but I don't think it's unfair to consider it.
  2. Rockies won against the Dodgers in 16 innings last night, so the Mets remain only a half-game behind LA.

I suppose we don't have full details (specifically because Gee didn't air his complaints publicly) but this sort of thing just makes me mad at the Mets. They could use Gee; they obviously could have added him to the roster; they chose not to. Gee didn't complain to the press, which I suppose is why we only have vague reports that he voiced his complaints "internally." Call me crazy, but that's exactly what a disgruntled employee is supposed to do (rather than, say, complaining publicly).

  5. Should we worry about our starting pitching? I don't actually worry much about Harvey. I bet the rest will do him good. But deGrom and Syndergaard are reaching the point where they're throwing more innings in a season than they've ever thrown before. deGrom's ERA is up 0.65 from a month ago. Syndergaard has those starts where he throws 90+ pitches through 5 innings and then is done. The offense has bailed out the team a few times now against crappy teams but are they going to be able to do that in the postseason? If we don't have deGromination from our starters, are we looking at a first-round exit? [/irrational panic]
  6. Ceetar wrote: Except all 4(5) NL playoff teams are probably better than the Yankees. Regardless of the validity of this claim, the Yankees certainly are the best team the Mets have faced since the trade deadline and it is a valid concern that we haven't see the Mets play against playoff-caliber opposition since July. Edit: Second best-team. They played (and got swept) by the Pirates in August.
  7. Frayed Knot wrote: Am definitely pulling for Pitt since they're closer to the Cards (-2.5) and I'd love to see them Birds knocked off their perch. The heart agrees. The head says Pittsburgh is the more dangerous team for the Mets in a hypothetical NLCS matchup, and I'd rather that the Pirates get stuck (and possibly eliminated) in the Wild Card game.
  8. Yes. Most important games played against the Yankees since...well, you know.

Because if there's anything 2015 has taught us, it's that you've gotta believe I don't think a 3-homer bottom of the ninth was possible there. I think that's a 3-run walk-off homer by Cleon Jones, no? (Still an exciting, fantastic victory)
  10. Good job, David.
  11. Beltran got a hit against Tampa.
  12. Cliff Floyd (I agree with Castillo as the other)
  13. 3-run homer by Cody Asche ties game in Philly. Also apparently Tampa has held the MFYs hitless through 6.
  14. Pitched well but was pinch-hit for in the bottom of the fifth. I don't know why they lifted him either, he was only at 63 pitches.
  15. Werth hit a grand slam for Washington. Not looking so good for the Phillies tonight; Mets are going to need this one to keep the magic number moving down.
  16. Nice start by Verrett, setting down the Marlins in order the first time through. Washington and Philly tied 2-2 in the 3rd.
  17. Matt Kemp? Edit: Yes, has to be Ellsbury. Kemp's got a similar contract but probably not as bad as that one.
  18. Edgy MD wrote: It's obviously untrue that Alderson hadn't done anything useful. Selective quoting there. My claim on June 24 was "But Alderson still hasn't done anything useful to upgrade the offense, even with whatever resources he does have. " I think we can agree that he now has made substantial moves to upgrade the offense: trading for 3 players and calling up a fourth from the minors.
  19. And I'm saying he's not worthy of "MVP points" as he isn't one of the 10 most valuable players in the league.
  20. I don't see much chance the Mets would start deGrom in game 4 on short rest. If you're up 3-0, you don't have a game 4. If you're down 1-2, you still need to win game 5. If you're up 2-1, you get to save him for game 5.
  21. Happy to eat some crow here. The point that the Mets would be better off with new ownership remains unassailable. Still, happy to eat some crow.
  22. Curtis would not be on my NL MVP Ballot: 1. Bryce Harper 2. Zack Greinke 3. Paul Goldschmidt 4. Joey Votto 5. Jake Arrieta 6. Clayton Kershaw 7. Buster Posey 8. Anthony Rizzo 9. A.J. Pollock 10. Nolan Arenado Which is not to say he's not having a very good season, but MVP talk is silly, I think.
  23. Conforto is not going to start against Clayton Kershaw. But aside from that game, I'd probably let him start the rest of the NLDS in left.
  24. Edgy MD wrote: yet. He's, 44 years old and hasn't pitched in the majors since 2010. BUT, it never hurts to have left-handed relief depth...
