  1. I think calling it "a snapshot of sorta where things sit now" invites a response when it is clearly in error. Anyway, I voted for my 25 choices. I like the idea of Niese in the bullpen, and I think Uribe will make it back for the NLDS. Last guy I left off was Carlos Torres. I'm curious who voted for the Mets to not carry a backup catcher (or is that Goeddel's role?). I like aggressive strategy.
  2. Matz is a lock and not on the bubble. I saw that Rubin suggested today that Niese could take the spot of Gilmartin in the bullpen.
  3. Books! Champs! Let's Go Mets!!!

  7. Good job, Diamondbacks. Only a half-game back. Home field advantage in the first round - in addition to just being beneficial to the Mets - also means that games 1 and 2 at Citi Field would be on a Friday and a Saturday. Just generally more convenient all around.
  8. Reviewing replay, it looks like Murphy forgot how many outs there were, as he never ran towards third base and instead just was standing there on the infield.
  9. Centerfield wrote: What happened? Bases loaded, bottom 1. 1 out. Murphy is on second. Grounder to third. Runner coming from first (Cespedes) is out at second. Ball dropped on transfer so no double play. D'Arnaud safe at first. Granderson scores. Murphy, instead of just reaching third safely, manages to run the Mets out of the inning and is tagged out by Simmons.
  10. He did have a good-looking double last night.
  11. Edgy MD wrote: Niese throwing a shutout wouldn't surprise me in the least. It's baseball. And he's done it plenty. He has 2 career shutouts in 176 career starts, so that makes you pretty hard to surprise I guess. I do think a good outing (say, 7 IP, 1 run) wouldn't be surprising.
  12. Zvon wrote: And I think the ESPN booth said tonight that he will have similar restrictions in the postseason. Not that I think they know what they are talking about but they did say it. No. Inaccurate. They said the opposite. That the point of the restrictions now was so that there wouldn't be this issue in the postseason. It remains speculation, as the Mets have not said anything about post-season restrictions.
  13. This game matters far less than anything in October. I was perfectly fine with Harvey coming out after 5. Obviously that's not happening in October. Most of the pitchers who did pitch tonight are not even in consideration for the post-season roster.

  15. With a loss tonight, the Mets would be 31-13 since August 1. Seems pretty good. EXCEPT, when that is broken down: 1-5 against teams that will make the playoffs*. 5-0 vs Washington (the only non-playoff-bound but above-.500 opponent). 25-8 against teams that were making October plans weeks ago. I fully believe the Mets will make the playoffs but I am terrified of a 3-0 or 3-1 drubbing in the first round. *Assumes they don't come back against the MFYs tonight

  17. Tejada leading off? Terry's a genius
  18. Dillon Gee? Oh, wait, never mind.
  19. Pirates defeat Kershaw (!), allow Mets to not lose further ground to Dodgers.
  20. Let's go, David. (Especially with them leaving the lefty in).
  21. Dodgers keep pace, defeat Pirates tonight, remain 1.5 games up for home-field in first round.
  22. Edgy MD wrote: things would get real boring if they upped that to 1300 or 1400. I'm willing to find out of if that's true.
  23. Technically, I believe Christie is actually a Met-loving douchebag. The politician douchebag who is also a Yankee-fan douchebag is this guy:
