Players pool gets: 50% of gate of each WC game 60% of gate of each of the first 3 games of all 4 division series 60% of gate of each of the first 4 games of both LCS 60% of gate of each of the first 4 games of the WS The rest of the gate goes not directly to the clubs hosting the game but into some sort of pool that is then distributed to the participating clubs. I think; I can't remember exactly how the distribution goes thereafter.
  2. Your overall point about the Mets making more money for being in the playoffs is correct. But this is not: Ceetar wrote: the Mets made, conservatively, 3 million from each of 4 playoff games just from ticket sales and are guaranteed a 5th. 60% of the ticket sales from all 4 of those games go to the players' pool, not to the Mets, as per the CBA.

  4. Longest postseason relief pitching appearance was Jesse Barnes of the NY Giants in the 1921 World Series. Yankees got 3 against Fred Toney in the top of the first with 2 outs. Barnes comes in (inheriting 1 runner) and gets out of the inning. Pitches the next 8 innings for the win. http://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/1921/B10110NYA1921.htm

Madison Bumgarner, last year. Took over World Series Game 7 in the fifth inning and pitched the rest of the way (albeit for a save, not a win).
  6. Also, I would of course extend Murphy the qualifying offer...and kind of hope he accepts it. Gives us one year of him and then we can sign Neil Walker of the Pirates as a free agent after 2016. Walker...he's just like Murphy without the mental errors and better defense.

TransMonk wrote: That said, my biggest worry about replacing Murph with Herrera is the loss of the lefty bat as a middle infield option...followed closely by losing the backup at first and third. Can't we just re-sign Kelly Johnson to be that backup? --- I do think that the Mets can afford to lose Cespedes and Murphy so long as they are adequately replaced. I'd probably rather the Mets overpay for Justin Upton (2 years younger than Cespedes) than either Murph or Cespedes.

  9. I liked Terry's strategy (mostly) a lot more in this game. I probably would have stuck with Niese for the 7th, with two lefties (Coghlan and Montero) coming up that inning. The Murphy homer was just fantastic. After he hooked the ball foul a couple of pitches earlier I figured he missed his chance there. Glad he took the curtain call too. Granderson's catch got not just the great reaction at the time but then it was quite fun as the various other seating sections that could see the reply started cheering as they saw just where he caught it (well above the orange line). Some interesting musical choices at the park. The "Piano Man" singalong persists, but a couple of innings earlier, they played "Livin' on a Prayer" which got a much better reaction. There was also - yes, believe it or not - a playing of "Who Let the Dogs Out." In a much more positive development, after "New York Groove" was played right after the final out, then the PA played "Meet the Mets," with the full original lyrics (butcher, baker, people on streets, et al.) which was a big singalong for the second straight night as fans exited. Well done, Mets AV team. Being up 2-0 and still having another of our aces ready for game 3 is just incredible. Let's Go Mets!
  10. Fun stat I saw today: Mets are now 28-14 all-time at home in the postseason; the best home winning percentage of any MLB team.

  12. Happy Birthday to Yoenis Cespedes, who turns 30 today. I've got a few ideas about how he could appropriately celebrate the occasion.
  13. Probably legit. From a 2012 news story about Kimmel's show doing a special week of tapings in Brooklyn: He says some of his fondest memories as a youth are running around until it got dark with the kids in the neighborhood and hanging out by a nearby convenience store and trading baseball cards. I remember one of the great joys of my life was getting a Mets team card, he said. It was rare to get a Mets team card, and I traded it for like a 150 other Mets cards.
  14. My first postseason game since Game 7 of '06 (division series was an unfortunate conflict). Great to be back at the game. Crowd was a little bit more subdued than I expected. Not that they were quiet, but I guess part of it was the cold (people sitting on hands instead of clapping them). Rally towel waving is also not noise-producing activity. No acceptable excuse for people leaving early (on a Saturday night). I could theoretically understand it, maybe (but never accept it) if it was Sunday night but certainly not here. Ceremonies, etc.: Uribe, Tejada and Goeddel were all introduced with the team. Loudest cheers went to Jacob deGrom, who got to tip his cap to the crowd twice and Murphy. Quietest in the starting lineup was Cuddyer but fortunately there were no boods. Keith was fantastic with the first pitch; wore a jersey rather than that mink coat. Game strategy: Didn't like the Harvey bunt in the bottom of the 5th, with 1 out and runners at 1st and 2nd. Just swing away. Especially didn't like pulling Harvey for Familia with two out and no runners on in the top of the 8th. a. I would have just left Harvey in (he was at 97 pitches) OR b. I would have gone to Clippard for Bryant. Back him up with Gilmartin/Niese against Rizzo if Bryant had reached. I did not like using Familia for extra outs that he really didn't need to get. The homers were great. As was Cespedes' throw and Lagares' baserunning. Fantastic to get game 1.

  16. Thanks bmfc! Chicago - New York is far and away the ratings winner (and they would probably want that in primetime) but I bet they have to give a night game to the AL series in the contract somewhere.
  17. All games 8:07 PM EDT. Exception: Saturday, October 24. NLCS Game 6 starts at 4:07 PM EDT only if ALCS Game 7 is being played that night. https://twitter.com/MLB_PR/status/655099113416085504

Was there even any mention of this once the season started? Exactly. People may not like what he said but since he didn't say anything else and isn't actively-campaigning-against-Obergefell (or something like that), it went away. Murphy never talked about it again and the issue was closed.

  20. Random thought that I missed posting earlier but did actually think of at the time: When Familia was batting with two outs in the 9th, I wanted the Mets to run a double-steal. He wasn't going to get a hit; the Dodgers wouldn't be expecting it; maybe they throw the ball away.
  21. Great minds, etc. etc.
