  3. On the back cover of Dan Schlossberg's Miracle Over Miami, which recounts Florida's unlikely or at least unforeseen 2003 world championship season, Jeff Conine poses with a genuine and genuinely presumptuous NYC Subway poster urging one and all to "Celebrate our Yankees' World Series victory at a New York ticker-tape parade!" on October 28, 2003, a parade that was never held. Anybody who rubs it in the collective MFY face starts out ahead of the game with me.

  5. Reyes. Though we ourselves haven't had too many Wrights, I don't think they're as rare a subspecies of ballplayer as the Reyeses are. Jose's front and center for this franchise on the field, though David would win in a voice vote most nights at Shea.

  9. If we expand the definition to states players called home, including for work purposes, at some point in their lives... California: Seaver Alaska: Seaver Florida: Seaver New York: Seaver Connecticut: Seaver Ohio: Seaver Illinois: Seaver Massachusetts: Seaver Makes ya feel bad for the other states.

  11. "Nobody I know gets sick 25 times a year." --Wally Backman The way Lastings wrapped himself in a big Gatorade towel made me feel for him. I also didn't want to get too close to the TV lest I catch what he had. So much for the theory that as a corner outfielder Lastings Milledge couldn't catch the flu.
  12. Though there hasn't been much payoff of late, I take pleasure in rooting for Green and Easley, two veterans who exude professionalism. Damion deconstructs an at-bat as well as anyone I've ever heard. Shawn is one of the better baserunners on the team even if his speed is quite limited (and heads-up baserunning seems an increasingly rare delight these days). These are two guys who have been around a long time with no World Series trips between them. It would be nice if each could get one very soon.
  13. My apologies to Pedro Feliciano, but I've never even been able to figure out how to post a picture here or find an icon or nothin'.

  15. I actually do need to get my eyes checked, but I really need to get my eyes checked. All the POTG and IGT threads kind of blur together when I go to look to see if there's one up and or I need to start one in order to vote. Twice in one week...sorry again.
  16. I miss the days when a thread title like this one automatically referred to the Braves.
  17. metirish wrote: I am struggling to remember a signature Delgado moment this season... Delgado collected the walkoff RBI three times in May: with a bases-loaded walk against the Cubs, a single against the Cubs and a bomb off of Benitez and the Giants. Yet he slacked back into slumping not long after. That's been the story of these Mets. They've given us (me for sure) some of the most transcendent moments I'll ever have as a fan (the drag bunt, the five-run ninth, the 17 innings, Chip Ambres). But then they don't come anywhere near matching them. If you can do it on a Tuesday, why do you look so lethargic on Wednesday? How can you not be ten games up when you're so clearly capable of it (based on those transcendent moments)? How can you not have the best record in New York (it's not your goal, but it's kind of ours)? Why do seven of every nine innings you bat seem to go 1-2-3? None of these questions square perfectly with logic or even airtight evidence, but they're out there in the Metsosphere. We ask 'em. We're fans. We reserve the right to derive satisfaction from going 67-95 and frustration from being 66-52.
  18. Fran Healy interviewed Offerman and other Ducks on The Game 365 the other night (a program I stumbled into when there was no The Game 8/13) regarding their unshakable big league dreams and how great an atmosphere Long Island provides. Jose seemed calm, affable, professional...much more likable than I remember him as a Met or anything else. Thus I blame the pressure of talking to Fran Healy for Offerman's outburst.

  20. Anybody remember his role in the Nike NYC campaign of '99? I consider it classic.

  23. InCitiousness in action: in the midst of Saturday night's game-tying rally, the words "Lets Get It Done" appeared on DiamondVision. OK, I thought. They were followed by the Citi logo. Over and over again. So now our rallies are sponsored. When Reyes was called out at the plate, I'm surprised a toll-free number for billing disputes wasn't posted on the scoreboard.
