  1. Yorvit Torrealba (not Yorvit Potter) was all but announced in the 2007-08 offseason until the formality of a physical got murky. Hope you didn't buy a Yorvit Torrealba jersey. (And maybe, just maybe, don't retire that Paul Lo Duca jersey just yet.) After agreeing on the finances of a three-year, $14.4 million deal with the free-agent catcher Torrealba, the Mets abruptly pulled out Saturday. The team offered no explanation. The lone remaining hurdle to complete the agreement had been passing a physical. "We do not have an agreement with Yorvit Torrealba and there are no ongoing negotiations with him or his agent," Mets spokesman Jay Horwitz said. Melvin Roman, Torrealba's agent, declined to comment. The catcher's reps were already believed to be back in contact with Colorado GM Dan O'Dowd last night trying to reengage the Rockies, who had offered a two-year contract with a vesting option. The Mets also had outbid the Marlins for Torrealba. Torrealba had battled a sore shoulder the past two seasons, which accounted for a low percentage of runners caught. https://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/mets/mets-deal-yorvit-torrealba-dead-article-1.258613https://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/mets/mets-deal-yorvit-torrealba-dead-article-1.258613

From the Brogna thread… =G-Fafif post_id=97557 time=1656378521 user_id=55] Looking over a list of those suspended from the Angels-Mariners brawl, I saw Dom Chiti, assistant pitching coach for the Angels, got five games. He is the son of 1962 Met Harry Chiti, who, as legends frames it, was traded for himself. Dom Chiti has been a coach and front office guy for many years (he was on Buck's staff in Baltimore) but had escaped my notice until tonight.
  4. Cali-based Josh Lewin, busy in the fall, seems an obvious call for the Western swings Howie prefers not to make.
  5. Jake Eisenberg was the primary fill-in guy. He's now full-time with KC. Burke, hockey-busy in spring, has been mentioned as Sterling's successor on WMFY.
  6. Brushed back Nolan Arenado, which needed to be done.
  7. "Steve." --Justin Verlander on what drew him to the Mets (and he clarified he didn't mean Gelbs, who hsd just asked him a question)
  8. MET WAYNE POWER RANKINGS 1. Garrett: Last played for the Mets in 1976, yet two Mets fans worried a "goodbye Wayne" was directed toward him joining the Angels, so to speak, 46 years later, attesting to the redhead's spiritual staying power 2. Randazzo: As noted, heckuva promising announcer, even on the wrong coast all of a sudden; eight seasons in the booth matched Garrett's eight-season run in the field 3. Kirby: Not much as a 1998 Met, seemed like a good coach/egg in 2022 4. Graham: Part of the package received for Frank Thomas in 1964; coached Phil Humber at Rice prior to Mets drafting him No. 1 in 2004 (also coached Roger Clemens as an undergrad, but we'll forgive him) 5. Twitchell: I saw him face Gaylord Perry on a Tuesday night in 1979; it went better for Perry 6. Housie: I saw him line up for Opening Day in 1993 and I honest to god thought "who the hell is that?" which doesn't happen often after an entire Spring Training devoted to obsessing on who might be lining up on Opening Day 7. Hagin: Haven't thought much about the veteran voice with the deep pipes since he took them out of town; just as well for his sake
  9. I've noticed every free agent who signs specifies “Steve and Alex Cohen,” and it seems more than perfunctory. I don't know to what extent ownership is a partnership, but it's reassuring there are two Cohens getting it done (rather than two Wilpons undoing everything).
  10. The reliever Buck knew from Baltimore is winging his way back to Birdland. One of those deadline gets who sucks at first and nobody will believe he got better — though he did and he did. First Met pitcher to pinch-run in several seasons.
  11. A case of “how ya keep 'em down on the farm…?” even if the farm was second banana in New York. His fill-in work on SNY when Gare vacationed was sublime as well. Good luck all around. (And I had a Wayne Garrett scare as well.)
  12. The news, from Irish… 2 years $15 million , good for him, and who wouldn't want to play out there Heyman on it The memories… A lifesaver as a starter in injury-depleted 2016. A lifesaver as the closer of choice when Diaz struggled in 2019. He seemed to want to start. I'm just glad he pitched as a Met.
  13. Kodai dons 34, thanks the fans for choosing it for him, adds a Let's Go Mets in English.
  14. Dodgers interested in Seth Lugo as a starter — like “Ken Rosenthal is reporting…” interested.
  15. Worst-kept secret now a known fact.
  16. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Have they officially introduced Verlander yet? Scheduled presser Tuesday.
  17. Sincerely tried to relate to critical Mets fans through whichever media he pursued. Those can be dicey waters. Any jam he worked his way out of felt like a surprise. Probably wasn't wholly physically sound the whole time he was here.
  18. Jose Peraza has signed a minor league contract in hopes of making new Met memories.
