1. =metirish post_id=115709 time=1672322671 user_id=72] Thanks , Greg .... George Santos used to play CF for the Mets
2. Is there a Mets loving big shot thread anymore? Here ya go: http://phpbb3.leaptoad.com/mets/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=31078&p=113746&hilit=Met+lovin%E2%80%99#p113746http://phpbb3.leaptoad.com/mets/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=31078&p=113746&hilit=Met+lovin'#p113746
3. One last batch of Met awards for 2022: http://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/2022/12/05/ring-around-qbc/Jay Horwitz honored with the Gil Hodges Unforgettable Fire Award earlier this month at the Queens Baseball Convention. http://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/2022/12/20/valuable-by-his-presence-and-his-absence/Starling Marte named Richie Ashburn Most Valuable Met by a relatively reputable local outlet. http://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/2022/12/27/satisfaction-of-whats-to-come/Something Short of Satisfaction recognized with the Nikon Camera Player of the Year Award (a.k.a. the definitive Met vibe to emerge from the past twelve months).
4. The IL certainly got a procedural workout in late September into October, so Rodriguez's spotless attendance record having ink spilled on it so late in his Met tenure may not have been a reflection of physical malady as much as dancing as fast as the front office could to prevent elimination. Joely took a seat in deference to Taijuan getting activated after Walker was left off the initial playoff roster. Buck never did break that particular pane of glass, even as Bassitt merited early removal in Game Three. Reconstructing those events reminds a person of two things: 1) What an awful NLWCS that was, all told — one satisfying game bracketed within two soul-sucking parentheses. 2) How great it was to have had a postseason and have an addendum of this nature to sort out, despite the brevity/futility of the Mets' participation. Despite the air seeping out of the balloon in Atlanta and the fatal flatness against San Diego, the whole thing truly beats “…then we went home after Game 162.” Kudos to the owner and general manager determined to keep us going back to the postseason and go further in the postseason. It's the place to be.
5. Conforto, Uribe and Johnson were indeed clustered together, all becoming Mets in the same series against the Dodgers. Cespedes was a week later (debuting in the showdown series vs. the Nats that followed the bizarre happenings of the Padre set — the Flores non-trade and the Familia implosion in the rain), Wright's return three-plus weeks after that, in Philadelphia, by which time the Mets had taken control of the East. In eight days, 2015 will be eight years ago. Despite those stories run on newscasts about chaos at our airports amid the busiest travel period since before the pandemic hit, time doesn't seem to have a problem getting a flight.
6. Scooter's finally moved on. Bright-eyed kid socking homers in the 2015 Series. Grizzled veteran waving a provisional goodbye on Closing Night in 2021. Lotta hits (and dings) in between.
7. Consensus is forming around an ankle injury from 2014, which Correa sustained in the minors, as the Giants' alibi for backing out.
8. Jake says thanks. Ran as a full-page ad in the Post.
9. Half of this is worthwhile.
10. Stepped in to play first base on one of those injury-strapped nights in 2021. Made a nice play and homered despite the position being new to him. Ended a game at Coors Field by throwing out Trevor Story, a Met rarity. Was the Mets' Clemente Award nominee this year, recognizing on- and off-field contributions, which implies he must have been a Hall of Famer off the field given what we saw on the field (no-hitter handling notwithstanding).
11. The night he was traded, for one…
12. Denny Doyle, second baseman for the Phillies, the Angels and the Red Sox during the '70s, 78.
13. A surprising new team has emerged in the Carlos Correa sweepstakes — or maybe not so surprising, considering the amount of money the New York Mets already have spent this offseason. Yes, Steve Cohen might be at again. Cohen's Mets are showing interest in Correa, according to sources familiar with the team's thinking. Correa, 28, likely would play third base for the Mets, alongside his fellow native of Puerto Rico, shortstop Francisco Lindor. “I'd say there's some smoke,” one Mets person said. “I'm not sure how big the fire is, though.” Mets general manager Billy Eppler declined comment. While a full-blown pursuit of Correa might feel like a stretch, given the size of Correa's expected payday and the expenditures already lavished out by the Mets this winter, Cohen has already expanded the parameters of what it is possible for an owner to spend. https://theathletic.com/4000022/2022/12/13/mets-free-agent-news-carlos-correa/https://theathletic.com/4000022/2022/12/13/mets-free-agent-news-carlos-correa/ Not so crazy after all.
14. This is fucking crazy -- I mean perfectly normal for Steve Cohen's Mets.
15. 63 across in Dec. 20, 2022's NYT puzzle: “M.L.B. team that played its first two seasons at the fabled Polo Grounds.” Four letters.
