  1. Justin Upton spills red sauce all over the brats, 2-run HR in the fifth, tying it at four.
  2. When did Luis Castillo take up catching?
  3. There has been no Met with exactly 15 losses since 1993, when both Dwight Gooden and Frank Tanana turned the Grote trick. Others: Viola, 1991; Koosman and Espinosa, 1978; Matlack in 1977 and 1974; Kooz in 1973; and Galen Cisco in 1963. So I'm in good-ish company, I guess. Never afraid to take the ball, at any rate.
  4. The amateur psychology stuff was forced into a compelling story of how that night unfolded and what its aftermath was. The director did some artful filmmaking but his narrative (and a ton of widely known background) got in the way. Still worthwhile when ESPN reairs, especially in the offseason.
  5. With ten games to go, The Happiest Recap's magic number is all of them. But in this case, it's these three. Mets aren't in the playoffs. So read the stories, not just the teases. 154: 1998 -- Wild war of nerves in Houston (co-starring Piazza & Hundley) 155: 2004 -- Stemming the Cubbie invasion (co-starring Diaz & Brazell) 156. 2011 -- Temporarily grounding the Cardinals (a true team effort) Also... 154. 2002 -- Esix Snead in 'One Night Only' 155. 1983 -- Tom Seaver's stealth goodbye 156. 1962 -- The Polo Grounds only thinks it's dead at the present time

  8. Funny, I thought I wanted the Cardinals to lose slightly more than I did the Phillies. Yet at 3-0 St. Louis versus Doc Wondeful, I'm not at all saddened.
  9. bmfc1 wrote: FOX and TBS. Sorry. Sorry the MFYs are involved at all.
  10. One glance at the CBP masses and I'm rapidly rooting for a meteor.
  11. One for the Suds. The glints of sunshine over the infield really say October visually.
  12. How come Milwaukee is MIL, Detroit is DET, Texas is TEX, et al, but Arizona, per TBS's graphic, is ARZ as opposed to ARI? And who said Andy Rooney is retiring?
  13. It makes me sad to think there are White Sox fans in Chicago who don't exist in movies like this one. But yeah, Steve couldn't come off looking better, and Cubs fans who aren't him couldn't come off looking worse.
  14. bmfc1 wrote: I'm surprised that MLB and FOX haven't changed the starting times of tomorrow's NL games to put the MFYs in prime time. Fox doesn't do LDS, unless something's changed.
  15. Clicked Brewers and probably meant it, but after weeks of rooting against Ryan Braun, I'm having a hard time generating enthusiasm for him and his teammates.
  16. Scoreless in the fourth inning of the first game.
  17. Very good movie in the middle (especially the story of how Bartman was ferried out of Wrigley). Sort of pointless at the beginning and end with all the myopic Red Sox stuff. Congratulations to the filmmaker for knowing where to go for appropriate imagery.
  18. If I were a little more bloodthirsty, I'd kill for a 1975 Ruben Tejada. Congratulations to yet another less expensive PotM than Jason Bay.
  19. Art Shamsky and Tom McCarthy are doing the international broadcast with latter-day Gary Thorne.
  20. Throneberry pinch-hit. He passed Murphy on the basepaths. Then Pagan passed Throneberry, which was strange, since Angel wasn't even in the game. But all this passing back and forth happened a tick before Davis could score. it's still 1-1 heading to the third. What a game!
  21. Suspended. They'll pick it up Saturday night. And in some way, it will suck.
  22. Where's there MFYs, there's unnecessary melodrama.
  23. bmfc1 wrote: I think that the movie would have been better if it started after the first twenty minutes and ended ten minutes earlier. Pretty much describes the 2011 Red Sox season.
  24. OMG, I practically Metgasmed listening to the postgame highlights: "OUTTA HERE!" Deepest rarely spoken desire: Gary gets a Vin Scully deal down the road and simulcasts TV and radio for decades to come. Howie can join him for some of it. Keith can join him for some of it. I don't care who joins him. Gary on radio is the only thing better than Gary on TV. Not counting pizza.
  25. 8 seasons -- let us not forget 2004 (as if we could).
