  1. It will be pregame. Just what it looks like in the film clips and photos. Large signs (often bedsheets), held by one-, two- or more-person entrants who march around the warning track, presumably offering support to the home team and overstating the home team's ability to compete for a world championship immediately. Celebrity judges in days of yore graded on creativity and originality, or something like that. An Emerson clock radio always seemed to be the prize. Marty remembers the lengthiness of it all here.
  2. Edgy DC wrote: No, that's a mighty narrow reading. And you know it. I guess even pleading for a break isn't going to get me one. And there's no reason to post more photos. I'm generous enough a reader to get a point the first time. Meanwhile, tasty new wallpaper at the Mets' site. You piqued my curiosity with your statement on a topic I'd never before pondered. I checked on other teams. The composition of their participants was contrary to what you'd suggested. Thank you for your generosity.
  3. I sometimes wonder what it takes to get some non-white guys at these fashion shows. Mighty broad assertion yesterday. Four recent fashion shows: three with the "non-white guys" joining in the festivities. Diversity apparently lives.
  4. Jerry Seinfeld is once again the man...with the dog...named for the man. Seinfeld names dog 'Jose' November, 17, 2011 By Adam Rubin Comedian Jerry Seinfeld, a devout Mets fan who has a box at Citi Field and annually attends spring training, named his family's new Dachshund, "Jose." Yes, after Jose Reyes. Seinfeld told David Letterman: "You want to know why the dog is named Jose? ... The dog is named Jose because I feel like we may lose Jose Reyes, and we're trying to keep a Jose. Because I'm a Met fan. It's actually my wife's idea, which is why I love my wife -- she comes up with ideas like this. That's a marriage right there, a wife that says, 'Let's name a dog after the Mets' outgoing shortstop.' That keeps the love alive."

  6. Imagine how many votes Gonzalez would have received had he not managed a team that collapsed completely in the last month of the season. I assume the 4 points were for his players not partaking of beer and chicken during games.
  7. Bonus points for the first Mets bobblehead that looks remotely like its subject.
  8. With Mets, end of bench feel like Siberia. In Russia, Siberia feel like Siberia.
  9. On Mets, backup outfielder play once a week. In Russia, only those favored by corrupt power structure eat more than once a week.
  10. Don't recall a fashion show in recent years. The creamstripes were intro'd via press release.
  11. Appreciated that he got a big hit the night following the afternoon memorial service for Dana Brand -- one beard picking up where another left off.
  12. The kids love managers. But with Tom assigned, I'd go...hmmm... 1970s: Tug 1980s: Kid 1990s: Mike 2000s: Jose Though I still say one per year rather than one per decade.
  13. Beltran was at the 2010 holiday party. Reyes was the lead player among several who showed up to surprise school kids last winter.
  14. Because Tom used to peer into the plate that way, I used to peer into the plate that way, albeit in my backyard, much to my best from second grade's amusement. Love In Action cards that dare you to detect the action.
  15. Would have gone with Casey for the '60s. There's a face made for bobbleheads.
  16. Saw it up close as modeled on the third baseman at press conference (and later during a few minutes of graciously provided blogger time). Looks good. As does he. As does Ike in alternate whites. (Duda was whisked away relatively quickly, but he wore the road grays well from a relative distance.) Black and blue cap has been retired. Enjoy your pension, weird combo.
  17. Marlin offer reportedly (per Rosenthal via McCullough) is 6 for 90. The first solid offer for the services of Jose Reyes has seen the light of day and it foretells bad news for the Mets. The reliable Fox Sports duo of Ken Rosenthal and Jon Morosi reported early this morning that the Miami Marlins have extended an initial offer of six years, $90 million for Reyes.

  21. Sandy Alomar the younger and Mike Maddux on Cubs' short list.
  22. Orel Hershiser would like to buy a team...the one for whom he pitched when we didn't particularly care for him.
