  1. The Most Valuable Met of 2017 starts against A.J. Cole and the first-place...ah, fuck them. LGM! Nimmo RF Lagares CF Cespedes LF Cabrera 3B Smith 1B d'Arnaud C Rosario SS Cecchini 2B deGrom P
  2. My issue came with no cover, but the address label stamped on the TOC. And they wonder why print is going to hell.
  3. Familia has indeed been activated and Conforto has indeed been disabled.
  4. Familia will be back on Friday. Conforto will presumably be gone. Travis Taijeron is being talked up as replacement. He was the 2016 John J. Murphy Award winner for outstanding Spring Training rookieness and, until now, the only Murphster to never have played for the Mets in real games. Well, him and 2000 honoree Garth Brooks.
  5. I thought Kingman was rushed back from his injury and tried too hard to hit home runs in the wake of returning. His whole thing was not trying for home runs (per the quotes he regularly gave), yet they came naturally. Lost the NL crown by one to Schmidt after leading him by eight. Still disappointed by that result. The Hack Wilson thing, too. As for the article, Bonds hit 73. That is indeed the most. Good luck Giancarlo, except against us (as if that stops him).
  6. bmfc1 wrote: There's a GrandersonKids event today. Obviously Curtis won't be there so instead they get Erik Goodell! Won't they be thrilled! "We got anybody alphabetically adjacent to Curtis?" "First name or last?" "Uh, last."
  7. Jacob deGrom blocks out the Sunday afternoon home woes. Adam Conley shouldn't look directly at No. 48 without protective eyewear.
  8. Brought great shame on his nation and his family. Good luck up north.
  9. Other team: Gordon 2B Stanton RF Yelich CF Ozuna LF Realmuto C Dietrich 3B Moore 1B Rojas SS Worley P
  10. Granderson and Rivera won't be in the starting lineup against Vance Worley. Nimmo CF Cabrera 2B Cespedes LF Conforto RF Flores 3B Smith 1B Rosario SS Plawecki C Montero P Looking forward to Cecchini getting a shot in the leadoff slot if only to have four consecutive Cs atop the lineup.
  11. Should a play at the plate between Neil Walker of the Brewers and Rene Rivera of the Cubs settle the NL Central, I won't know who to root for.
  12. Every time I sat adjacent to RF or CF, if he was playing there, he had a great rapport with the crowd. Didn't take much. Just a knowing nod, a brief wave, a smile, but he always went out of his way to make that connection. A few times when I've sat close to home plate, I saw the same thing. Fan wanted a selfie with Curtis? Curtis would pause and pose. He had no arm, but go back and watch the losing run of WS Game 1 score. No, Grandy didn't throw the Royal out, but he heaved as best he could and almost got him. I know that sounds like faint praise, but he turned a no-doubter into a close play because (I sensed) he was gonna give everything he had for essentially as big a throw as he'd ever make in the major leagues. Clutch hitter in that World Series when so many Mets weren't. Clutch fielder in the otherwise lamentable 2016 Wild Card game. Fucking looked like a good baseball player. Walked when he wasn't hitting. Fielded when he wasn't driving in runs. Power in the leadoff spot. The glove on the head while entertaining Gelbsian inquiries. Two extra-inning homers to beat the Twins last September. Jesus, I liked him.
  13. Lost in the shuffling is the Mets gave Fernando Salas his release waivers, so he's a definitive goner, too. Lent a helping hand down the 2016 stretch. Sucked from early overuse in 2017. Was probably better than Neil Ramirez.
  14. Yeah, he's gone, too, claimed on waivers by the Cubs, with the Mets being all, sure, go ahead. (Plawecki up in his stead; and Milone takes Granderson's spot and presumably Matz's next start.) Held a lot of hands attached to talented arms. Nurtured a playoff run in 2016. Hit a nice home run in his final Met game, though not on his final Met swing. Finishes in a five-way tie for 20th on the Met Citi Field home run chart, deadlocked at 7 with Lagares, Recker, Byrd and Valdespin. Slower than slow, but he was a catcher.
  15. One of my favorite thread titles of the year.
  16. Reyes to DL, so that's Reynolds. Still figuring out Flores, with Cecchini lurking.
  17. Granderson RF Cabrera 2B Conforto CF Cespedes LF Smith 1B Rosario SS d'Arnaud C Reynolds 3B Matz P No official word on who Reynolds replaces on roster, though McGowan was mentioned as packing his bags last night.
  18. The 36th third baseman to follow David Wright was in there last night. And out of there. And in there again. And so on. And so on. 165. Travis d'Arnaud 08/16/2017 164. Neil Walker 08/09/2017 163. Asdrubal Cabrera 07/22/2017 162. T.J. Rivera 08/10/2016 161. Jose Reyes 07/06/2016 160. Ty Kelly 05/24/2016 159. Matt Reynolds 05/17/2016 158. 19. At last, a reason for this presidency. It can end now.
  20. Today's 6-2 win was the Mets' 100th regular-season 6-2 win in their 56-year history. Celebrate with a six-pack...and a couple of shots.
  21. I have a pair of Neil Walker batting gloves, in their original wrapper. The gloves feature the Mets "NY" insignia and the WOR Radio logo. There is nothing Neil Walkerish about the gloves themselves, but the packaging assures me they are his. I hope he has another pair to take to Milwaukee.
  22. Hard to believe deGrom didn't sweep all four awards. Sure are a lot of ex-Mets soaking up July points. Thanks as ever, BG, for a fabulous production.
  23. The Mets report they will replace Neil Walker on the roster with Vegas righty reliever Kevin McGowan, a New Hampshire product born October 18, 1991. Five wins and four saves for the 51s. He'll wear 61.
  24. Best Neil on the 2017 Mets by far. Thirty-three home runs in two seasons as a Met (tied for 61st in franchise history with Ramon Castro and Jay Payton), four of them off ex-Mets: Chris Young (his and the 2016 Mets' first of their record-setting 218), Tyler Clippard, Francisco Rodriguez and Dillon Gee. Neil never played with any of them. His last was off Al Leiter's nephew Mark. The one off K-Rod in Detroit, and one off Boone Logan of Colorado at Citi Field a week earlier, were critical in keeping the Mets afloat during their fallow midsummer 2016 period, allowing them to stay close enough for their eventual Wild Card push. As good a "good guy" as one could have wanted, by all indications. Not as consistently healthy as one would want. Opened the door to T.J. Rivera by being out all of last September. Now that I'm thinking about it, probably holds the Met record for career home runs without any in September. (Fellow ex-Pirate Bobby Bonilla hit 95 home runs as a Met, but only four in September.) When he succeeded Daniel Murphy, we knew what we were getting and we got him. We just didn't what we were losing, and that probably colors his Met legacy. Good luck in Milwaukee, guy from Pittsburgh.
  25. Paul Casanova, catcher for the Senators and Braves from 1965 through 1974, has passed away at 75. He was the All-Star representative on Gil Hodges's last Washington team in 1967. In his final season, he caught Carl Morton's complete game 1-0 victory over the Mets, a game won on Davey Johnson's eighth-inning single off Bob Miller that knocked in Dusty Baker. Harry Parker took the loss.
