  1. This was the first series all year in which the Mets played consecutive games in less than 2:45, perhaps reflecting an accelerated desire by both teams to get the season over with.
  2. This game would be better if it was better.
  3. Jacob by day, put it away. Robert Stephenson provides the opposition in conjunction with his Reds teammates.
  4. Here come some Reds: Ervin CF Cozart SS Votto 1B Duvall LF Gennett 2B Suarez 3B Schebler RF Barnhart C Bailey P
  5. Rafael Montero will pitch for the Mets because somebody has to. Homer Bailey will assume the same role for the Reds. Get psyched. Reyes SS Nimmo RF Cabrera 2B Flores 3B Plawecki C Smith 1B Lagares CF Reynolds LF Montero P
  6. Encouraging logistical development. I hope it does for Houston and Astros fans all a sporting event can do in a time of crisis, even if it can't do everything. Too weird that Harvey will be pitching in Houston, but that's just a name. Last time they played two in Texas, Mets and Astros split a fantastic doubleheader amid a barnburner series in the Astrodome in September 1998, the one that culminated in Piazza putting the Mets ahead in the final game with two out in the ninth off Wagner and Hundley pinch-homering in the eleventh (positioning the Mets to surge to the Wild Card...even though they wouldn't). Mets and Stros played two twinbills at Colt Stadium and four total at the Dome. Wouldn't have guessed they'd ever participate in one at Minute Maid Park.
  7. Paid attendance for TEX@HOU@TBR Tuesday night: 3,485, or about as many as appeared to be inside GABP for NYM@CIN. Astro video packages and their seventh-inning stretch jam, "Deep In The Heart Of Texas," were played.
  8. Plawecki looked good on the mound, at least.
  9. Jerry Seinfeld wears a METS EST ’62 warmup jacket while standing in front of his childhood home in the trailer for his 2017 Netflix sepcial, Jerry Before Seinfeld: Back On Stage. Presumably he wears it in the show as well.
  10. Noted Mets fan and musician Jack Antonoff wore a Mets cap on the 2017 MTV VMAs, August 27, 2017.
  11. I remember, in 1969, everything was going right with the world — the Mets looked like they might win the pennant and I was doing Gene Pitney recording sessions and sessions with the Drifters and the Platters...and I even getting paid for some of this stuff. —Rupert Holmes, Gilbert Gottfried’s Amazing Colossal Podcast, 2017
  12. AP reporting it's gonna be St. Pete for both the Rangers and the Mets series. Seattle is indeed a continent from everywhere on the East Coast, but this keeps the Astros from making an extra trip in between. Also doesn't make them the road team in home uniforms in New York. Neutral is presumably preferable since they're the ones being put out.
  13. As noted in the hurricane thread, the Astros are in limbo. Jon Morosi and Ken Rosenthal each reporting their home series vs. Texas might wind up in the available Tropicana Dome, not Arlington. The seemingly simple solution in which Astros and Rangers just switch hosting duties (there's a HOU@TEX set coming up) would somehow screw up Texas from multiple perspectives that have to be taken into account even against a backdrop of life and death issues elsewhere in their state. Mets seem unlikely to host the next series because the Astros have to be in Seattle for a Labor Day afternoon game, so St. Pete may be where they head after Cincinnati. Very much a stay-tuned situation.
  14. August 26 game is listed as August 25, perhaps indicating one Mets day in 2017 has become very much like the other.
  15. Reverse-psychology by using the thread title from the previous day's defeat so far working. Brilliant!
  16. Lugo up, Gsellman down; McGowan back as 26th man.
  17. 1,038. Travis Taijeron
  18. With two homestands remaining, several totals are frozen and at least one may be getting loose in Port St. Lucie. As always, this is as Mets, regular-season at Citi Field, 2009-present. Bold indicates current Met, active roster or DL. 1. Duda 71 2. Wright 50 3. Granderson 38 4. Flores 33 5. Davis 30 6. Conforto 27 6. Murphy 27 8. Cespedes 24 9. Cabrera 22 9. Valdespin 7 Dominic Smith is on the board with 2 and Amed Rosario has notched 1. Other active Mets' totals: T.J. Rivera, 6; Matt Reynolds, 3; Kevin Plawecki, 2; and Brandon Nimmo, Seth Lugo, Jacob deGrom, Matt Harvey and Noah Syndergaard with 1 apiece.
  19. Angels signed Salas to a minor league deal the other day. Good luck out west.
  20. Zimmerman hurt his hand sliding into home in Houston the other night.
  21. Other team... Kendrick LF Difo SS Rendon 3B Lind 1B Wieters C Taylor CF Stevenson RF Sanchez 2B Gonzalez P
  22. As implicit in lineup, Taijeron, wearing 28, and Reyes are up/back. Ces on DL, McGowan optioned.
  23. The lineup that will be all over Gonzalez. Includes a new component. José Reyes – 2B Juan Lagares – CF Asdrúbal Cabrera – 3B Wilmer Flores – 1B Amed Rosario – SS Kevin Plawecki – C Travis Taijeron – RF Brandon Nimmo – LF Robert Gsellman – RHP
  24. Robert Gsellman will be Live at 4:05, Throwing Copper at the Nationals, who will be scarred like that. Lightning Crashes all around Gio Gonzalez, courtesy of a unified Met lineup in which nobody says I Alone can fix this. They will be All Over him. xSHAqHA-SPc
