  1. Mets have DFA'd Drew Gagnon, who is reportedly on the verge of signing with a Korean ballclub.
  2. #RE2PECT to whoever doesn't make it unanimous.
  3. Wrote about it http://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/2019/11/17/still-with-us/here.
  4. Marc Normandin considers the ramifications on players. https://www.marcnormandin.com/2019/11/18/mlb-thinks-paying-milb-players-is-a-waste/https://www.marcnormandin.com/2019/11/18/mlb-thinks-paying-milb-players-is-a-waste/

  6. I assume the NFL or perhaps MFYs grabbed the back pages on 9/30, which is too bad given how Game 162 ended at Citi. OVERRULED lost my vote because fuck references to Aaron Judge.
  7. Vera Clemente, 81, widow of Roberto. Represented his legacy for more than half of her life.
  8. Bill Madden offers details... https://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/ny-minor-league-luhnow-madden-20191116-73ssnr7ybvdwzdr5vd44vh4e5m-story.htmlhttps://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/ny-minor-league-luhnow-madden-20191116-73ssnr7ybvdwzdr5vd44vh4e5m-story.html
  9. Michael Baumann of the Ringer not high on Zack: It might be a little harsh to compare Wheeler—like [Darren] Dreifort a former top-10 pick who was hurt or bad or both for much of his mid-20s—to the doomed Dodger right-hander. Since returning to the majors in 2017, Wheeler has posted good peripherals and been fairly reliable, making at least 29 starts in each of the past two seasons. But he's also posted a worse ERA+ in that time than any of the seven pitchers listed above him here. Wheeler also has a mild case of James Paxton's Disease, in which people confuse lack of a big league track record for youth, when Wheeler is less than a year younger than Odorizzi or Bumgarner, and doesn't have anything like Paxton's peak performance. https://www.theringer.com/mlb/2019/11/11/20958388/mlb-free-agency-rankings-tiers-primer-gerrit-cole-anthony-rendon-stephen-strasburghttps://www.theringer.com/mlb/2019/11/11/20958388/mlb-free-agency-rankings-tiers-primer-gerrit-cole-anthony-rendon-stephen-strasburg
  10. A lot to love. Good news or less good, the output is marvelous. DAVIS ROCKS GOLIATH probably needed to color in the L and A in GOLIATH for full tabloid effect, but it captured the moment in style. Need a “50” in there for sure, and the one that says it simply says it all. Buying low on Mickey nostalgia, apparently, I find myself touched by WAIT TILL NEXT YEAR, the back page equivalent of the preprinted 1951 World Series program that was never sold at Ebbets Field.
  11. I might've suggested 23, which would make LIOMS the mirror image of LIOSM.
  12. LIOMS has announced he will 0 in 2020. Marcus previously said he felt wrong wearing 7 since he grew up a fan of Reyes and in his mind the number belongs to Jose.
  13. I wonder if during the Diamondbacks series somebody in the stands shouted “HEY WIL',” whether anybody among Justin Wilson, Wilson Ramos and Wilmer Flores looked up. “I'm sorry,” interjected Noah Syndergaard, “did somebody call for SYN'?”
  14. News did that great self-referencing thing in BEAR HUG with the inset of the back page from the day before because there was a chance readers couldn't figure out that a win followed a gut-wrenching loss. It's cheesy but charming. I also like the acres of empty seats behind Pete in Washington, awesome baseball town it's always been. The orange bucket blocking out the nameplate for the News's version of chesty Alonso added to the action on that back page. Might as well have gone with a full page of text on the DESTINY entry, what with the deck going on until next Thursday, but Frazier and the one-word headline nevertheless produced the desired oomph. Like Zack and Jake down the stretch, the News kicks it into another gear come September. Honorable mention: SNAKE HARMERS is a clever take on the usual phrase.
  15. Last six starts this year produced a 1.80 ERA, 6.2 IP per start and about a strikeout per inning. Over the final three, picked up some of whatever it is that plagues deGrom when it comes to his teammates supporting him, each time producing an outing that was deep, sharp and a loss. Watching Hot Stove on SNY last night the consensus was Zack is gone and the Mets will seek moderately priced dregs to take his place.
  16. Alonso named on 29 ballots, deGrom on 11. Fifth place was highest rank for either of them.
  17. Pete finishes 7th in NL MVP voting, Jake 10th.
  18. “No.” Wheeler rejects Mets' QO. Brodie says they'll keep talking to him in free agent mode.
  19. Kudos to the invocation of the black cat. I didn't vote for it, because it seemed blasphemous to suggest the situations were analogous, but I appreciate the recurring nods to 1969. Conversely, I detest those white uniforms, but WHITEOUT nailed the essence of that futile weekend. They did indeed KEEP PULLING YA BACK IN, so that one was a winner to me. Likewise, DAZE OF THUNDER was a very effective delivery system of undesirable news. Tough choices in this round, and that's NO SYN.
  20. If health isn't a hindrance, the last four NL Cy Youngs figure to be on the mound in the top and bottom of the first.
  21. The canned statements following both Pete's and Jake's honors came exclusively from J. Wilpon and B. Van Wagenen. No managerial boilerplate, neither from the new guy spouting superlatives in anticipation of taking the wheel nor the last guy who actually did the managing. No Mgr of the Year votes in '18 or '19, but as a manager of individuals if not games, Callaway wasn't the worst.
  22. =kcmets post_id=26493 time=1573690171 user_id=53] Again with the 29? Who this time??
  23. Jacob deGrom, 2019 NL Cy Young Award winner. 29 of 30 first-place votes.
  24. Bob won us a game on an 11th-inning homer on August 8, 1967. His shirt presumably stayed on.
  25. Matt Silverman offers some Delcos memories. http://metsilverman.com/recalling-dear-departed-delcos/http://metsilverman.com/recalling-dear-departed-delcos/
