  1. Kevin Plawecki has signed a one-year deal with the Red Sox.
  2. In the November 13, 1994, episode of Married With Children, "A Man For No Seasons" (Season 9, Episode 11), several striking baseball player made appearances, including then-Met Bret Saberhagen, delivering pizza while wearing a nametag that identified him as Bobby Bonilla. When asked about the misidentification, Saberhagen explained Bonilla called in sick today. Also appearing: young Dodger catching sensation Mike Piazza as a clueless TV cameraman following reporter Joe Morgan around.
  3. Larsen was also the first pitcher to lose four games in a season to the Mets, going 0-4 to the 1964 club, which went 49-109 against all other NL pitchers.
  4. “The imperfect man pitched a perfect game yesterday.” https://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/yankees/larsen-plays-perfect-game-world-series-1956-article-1.2382988https://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/yankees/larsen-plays-perfect-game-world-series-1956-article-1.2382988 And the story behind that lede... Joe Trimble, Dick Young's colleague at the Daily News, is sitting at his typewriter in the press box at Yankee Stadium, staring at a blank piece of paper. An hour ago Don Larsen pitched a perfect game in the World Series and now the press room downtown is freaking out—where's Joe Trimble's story? "I'm blank," Joe Trimble says to Dick Young in a cold-sweat panic. "I can't write a word." Dick Young calmly rolls a piece of paper in his own typewriter, types out a sentence, takes out the paper and hands it to Joe Trimble. "The imperfect man pitched a perfect game." Forty-five minutes later, Joe Trimble's story is finished, it's the best story of his career, he wins awards for that story—and Dick Young never says a word. https://thestacks.deadspin.com/dick-youngs-america-the-reactionary-who-changed-spo-862557756https://thestacks.deadspin.com/dick-youngs-america-the-reactionary-who-changed-spo-862557756
  5. Don Larsen, he of the World Series perfect game, 90.
  6. “Mets are great, Yankees suck” is the closest thing I have to a mantra. Feel free to borrow it.
  7. Thanks MFS. Here's some Pete. https://youtu.be/z1N3vOXPZIEhttps://youtu.be/z1N3vOXPZIE
  8. Faith and Fear in Flushing's Top 100 Mets of the 2010s (out of 247 who played for the Mets during the past decade) is http://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/2019/12/25/the-top-100-mets-of-the-2010s/here. Enjoy!
  9. Your eighth annual comprehensive survey of the year in Metsian Popular Culture is http://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/2019/12/28/the-2019-oscars-cap-awards/here. Thanks to all who unwittingly contributed.
  10. Overheard on a car radio news report in the 1969 film, Medium Cool, set in Chicago the summer before: "And finally, it was the Mets walloping the Pirates..."
  11. Howie rolls with Tank. http://youtu.be/zGgZUl5E4Achttp://youtu.be/zGgZUl5E4Ac

  15. Glenn Sherlock is joining Derek Shelton's staff in Pittsburgh to coach catchers and so on and so forth and what have you.
  16. Hyun-Jin Ryu signs with the Jays, 4 years, $80 mil.
  17. Keuchel figures are three years, $54-56 million.
  18. Dallas Keuchel, another 2019 Brave, signs with the White Sox.
  19. Neil Ramirez has signed a minor league deal with the Angels for reasons unfathomable to bystanders.
  20. Ian Kinsler moves up to the Padre front office. Steve Pearce has hung ‘em up as well.
  21. While Stephen Nogosek cleared waivers and for his trouble got himself outrighted to Syracuse, Chris Mazza was claimed by the Red Sox. Mazza wore Amazin' stirrups and socks. Beyond the hosiery, he showed a little promise here and there, keeping the Mets close in the 1969 reunion game after Matz and rain threatened to ruin the whole thing. That was Mazza's debut. The Mets go through a lot of disappointing relievers, but still manage to let potentially decent ones slip through their fingers. I think Mazza might go in that category.
  22. The Twins have signed Tyler Clippard, presumably to pitch.
  23. Gettin' Huskey wit' Howie. https://youtu.be/ErPGCw4gteghttps://youtu.be/ErPGCw4gteg
