  1. Pete is Topps among rookie first sackers. https://www.topps.com/blog/2019-topps-rookie-cup-awards.htmlhttps://www.topps.com/blog/2019-topps-rookie-cup-awards.html
  2. Mets win, they get good press. Mets blow leads and threaten reporters, that's the headline. Play better ball, get better wood.
  3. The messiness of the CAN'T LOSE 'EM ALL presentation really captures the play, game and Met mood of the moment. In a year whose back page successes figure to be increasingly about home runs, an exciting defensive climax is celebrated, while not losing sight of how everything else is going wrong. PETE OF THE MOMENT has a Rockwell feel to it — Norman, not the “Somebody's Watching Me” guy. Bonus points for invoking supergroup Asia. Plethora of impressive wordplay in this round.
  4. Good exploration of the site's death and life here, and why “stick to sports” was never gonna fit. https://slate.com/business/2019/11/deadspin-roundtable-barry-petchesky-megan-greenwell-tom-ley.amp?__twitter_impression=truehttps://slate.com/business/2019/11/deadspin-roundtable-barry-petchesky-megan-greenwell-tom-ley.amp?__twitter_impression=true
  5. If anybody in his life had ever referred to Noah Syndergaard as “Syn,” that pun might work a little.
  6. Pete Alonso is Baseball Digest's NL Rookie of the Year.
  7. Somewhere Leo Durocher just shuddered.
  8. Seth's mom and Sean's Fox-y wife definitely on board. Zack's brother, too. Plus, you know, a certain beloved first baseman turned broadcaster. Orange and blue the only colors worth looking for.
  9. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I guess the nice thing about the Mets not having won a championship during the Trump presidency is that we haven't had to learn which of our guys would wear a MAGA cap. As Trump's candidacy was percolating in 2015, Dillon Gee and DL'd Vic Black emerged as early adopters.
  10. DeGrom and Alonso are CYA and ROY finalists, respectively. Jake's competition is Ryu and Scherzer. Pete will beat Tatis and M-M-M-Mike Soroka.
  11. Beltran demanded Brodie make moves, and here are a handful — because you don't ignore Carlos Beltran. (Or this is standard hot stove fiddling.) FLUSHING, N.Y., November 4, 2019 — The New York Mets today announced that they have extended a qualifying offer to RHP Zack Wheeler, selected the contract of LHP Blake Taylor from Syracuse (AAA) and claimed LHP Stephen Gonsalves off waivers from the Minnesota Twins. Taylor, 24, was 2–3 with a 2.16 ERA (16 earned runs/66.2 innings) and 74 strikeouts in 40 combined games with St. Lucie (A), Binghamton (AA) and Syracuse (AAA) in 2019. Taylor was selected in the second round by Pittsburgh in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft. He was acquired on June 15, 2014 as the player to be named later in the deal that sent Ike Davis to the Pirates. Gonsalves, 25, was the Twins fourth-round pick in 2013. He was 2–2 in seven games, four starts for Minnesota in 2018. The 6–5, 220-pounder was the Twins Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2016 after posting a 13–5 record with a 2.06 ERA, and 155 strikeouts in 24 starts. He went 12–3 with a 2.76 ERA with 120 strikeouts in 120.2 innings over 23 games, 22 starts for Rochester (AAA) and Chattanooga (AA) in 2018.
  12. Mistyped. It's Modern Era. But Miller's impact is timeless.
  13. Zimmerman's another one.
  14. Modern Era ballot does not include Keith Hernandez. It does have Dwight Evans, Steve Garvey, Tommy John, Don Mattingly, Marvin Miller, Thurman Munson, Dale Murphy, Dave Parker, Ted Simmons and Lou Whitaker.
  15. Suzuki dons red cap that doesn't feature curly W.
  16. https://wcbs880.radio.com/articles/news/howie-rose-inducted-new-york-baseball-hall-fameHowie in a Hall.
  17. Carlos laid down the NL East law in two languages, promised to set the Nationals' championship flag “en fuego” and generally promised to kick ass on the field and in the clubhouse. Or he spoke in vaguely upbeat platitudes while cloaked in a dress shirt, tie and uniform top. I forget which. Either way, let's sign Rendon.
  18. No Met managerial tenure has ended well, unless you count the interim managers who returned without vocal complaint to coaching.
  19. If a world championship parade and celebration can be described as self-congratulatory, it is the Nationals'.
  20. Danny Murtaugh stepped down after the 1971 Series, taking a front office role. Went back to the dugout when Bill Virdon was fired.
  21. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=25832 time=1572715003 user_id=68] =LWFS post_id=25801 time=1572661382 user_id=84] This TOTALLY won't end well....
  22. Yogi Berra was inducted into the Hall during his first season as manager, 1972.
  23. Tanned, rested and Terry — Beltran/Collins 2020!
  24. What problem did deGrom have with Collins?
  25. Mets decline option on Lagares. The longest consecutively tenured Met becomes a free agent — as do Joe Panik and Donnie Hart, who declined assignments to Syracuse. Also, Carlos Beltran is managing the Mets.
