  1. =Centerfield post_id=28011 time=1575921432 user_id=65] I saw 7 years, $220, which is much more reasonable.
  2. Full no-trade clause for Strasburg.
  3. Co-ace of the defending champs agrees to re-sign, reportedly for seven years, $245 million...which reads as insane.
  4. Cup of coffee catcher (September 14, 1971), 71. Best remembered as part of the Nolan Ryan deal, but a legend in Mexico, having played there until his late 40s. Mike Piazza credits Estrada, when he played for him one winter, for developing him into a catcher. Per Wikipedia (with the news reported bilingually on Twitter): Died: December 9, 2019 (aged 71) Ciudad Obregón, Sonora, Mexico
  5. They should play Sunday Night exhibitions in the offseason, regulation games on Sunday afternoons.
  6. That expression does not say, “Yay, I'm happy to be in this new place.”
  7. Marvin Miller mght come back from the great beyond just to tell them to stick it. There were no bad choices on this ballot, save for the ones attached to pinstripes. Good for Keith's pal.
  8. Dude's a Doosan Bear, KBO style. I was at his first win, in 2017, a rare night when he didn't suck. I kind of bought into the notion that he was turning the corner in the pen. Good luck with that.
  9. Times collects enough anonymous anecdotes to paint a picture of the Wilpon ownership as less than optimal. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/12/06/sports/mets-wilpons-sale-cohen.htmlhttps://www.nytimes.com/2019/12/06/sports/mets-wilpons-sale-cohen.html Tensions between Jeff Wilpon and his relatives have been brewing for years. Many of them work with Sterling Equities, the family's closely held umbrella company, but the baseball team, which last won a World Series in 1986 — before the family took full control — was largely Jeff's domain. For years, some family members have questioned his choices behind the scenes. In 2003, for example, Jeff and his father called on Jeff's younger brother, Bruce, who is fluent in Japanese, to help pursue the free-agent infielder Kazuo Matsui. Soon after Matsui joined the Mets in 2004 and reported to spring training, he injured his finger. Jeff Wilpon was adamant that Matsui play in televised spring training games to build excitement for the season after a last-place finish a year earlier. Bruce was more protective of Matsui and urged caution. The disagreement came to a head when Jeff, seeing a promotional opportunity, wanted Matsui on the field. Bruce pushed back. The argument grew heated and ugly, as Jeff dug in. After that, Bruce rarely, if ever, was involved with the team again. Such accounts of the family and its decision to sell are based on interviews with more than a dozen people with direct involvement with the Wilpon family and the Mets, nearly all of whom asked not to be identified so as not to damage their relationship with the family. Through a spokesman, Fred and Jeff Wilpon declined to comment.
  10. Designate Flexen Abruptly
  11. Damion Easley is the new Padres hitting coach.
  12. The Mets have signed two more journeymen: lefty-hitting outfielder Jarrett Parker, 30, and righty-swinging infielder Max Moroff, 26. Parker's spent time with the Angels and Giants, 140 games in all; Moroff's been a Pirate and an Indian for a total of 104 games.

  14. The Giants have hired Brian Bannister, presumably to serve in a pitching development role like the one he held with the Red Sox.
  15. Steve's a sweetheart. Like most modern sports franchise owners. https://www.foxbusiness.com/politics/billionaire-steven-cohen-ramps-up-gop-donations-amid-hedge-fund-comebackhttps://www.foxbusiness.com/politics/billionaire-steven-cohen-ramps-up-gop-donations-amid-hedge-fund-comeback
  16. That Nats game was Zack's Citi Field debut for which WHEELS UP t-shirts were packaged with select Field Level tickets. Harvey was hor and the Mets briefly tried to promote the next guy as Dark Knight 2.0. I crossed paths on the concourse with an unassuming Chris Russo that day, presumably on hand to see the guy his Giants let get away.
  17. The second half of 2018 revealed a pitcher just about as good as Jacob deGrom. And the stretch drive of 2019 saw Zack pitch to the kind of support Jake got. It was gratifying finally getting the Wheeler who was so hyped so many years before. I met him after his rookie season. Had a real glint in his eye when I asked him about beating the Giants (hitting and pitching). Said he was quite happy to have “shoved” against the team that let him go. I imagine he'll have similar motivation several times a year.
  18. The Mets are a counterfactual dynasty.
  19. Pete's national coming out party = real news.
