  1. Six Mets have now made their "official" club debuts in games that predate their actual club debuts. Jeff Reardon first pitched for the Mets on August 25, 1979, but is listed as having debuted (as a Met and in the majors) on June 17, 1979, reflecting his participation in a suspended game that was completed on August 27, 1979. This bends time and space in an unacceptable manner. Your all-time Met Count chronology during 1979 should read: 294. Dock Ellis (rather than 295; June 18, 1979 debut) 295. Andy Hassler (rather than 296; June 19, 1979 debut) 296. Jose Cardenal (rather than 297; August 4, 1979 debut) 297. Ray Burris (rather than 298; August 24, 1979 debut) 298. Jeff Reardon (rather than 294; August 25, 1979) Five players who debuted as Mets after the suspended game of April 11, 2021, played in its resumption on August 31, 2021, and now show up on Baseball-Reference as Mets on April 11, 2021. Patrick Mazeika (debuted as a Met May 5, 2021; MLB debut as well) Brandon Drury (May 21, 2021) Javier Baez (July 31, 2021) Chance Sisco (August 18, 2021) Heath Hembree (August 24, 2021) Please process their respective initial Met appearances through the prism of chronological reality and adjust your scorecards accordingly.

  6. Hand shoves Hartlieb (DFA) off the 40-man.
  7. MLBN to remember the game of 9/21/2001.
  8. Tom waving Brock and Gibson over to “get a look at these cards this guy made” is surely a heavenly tableau to consider.

  10. Another Alderson steps to the fore… Acting Mets general manager Zack Scott pleaded not guilty to a drunk driving charge in Westchester County, according to court filings. Scott, who was charged with driving while intoxicated in the early hours on Tuesday morning, also pleaded not guilty to three other traffic violations. He was arrested in White Plains after police found him asleep in his car at 4:15 a.m., cops say. Hours after Scott's court appearance, the GM was placed on administrative leave, the team said. Team president Sandy Alderson will replace him. Alderson interviewed Scott and Jared Porter for the team's vacant GM job before hiring Porter in December. Porter was fired a month later after news broke that he had sexually harassed a reporter while a Cubs executive in 2016. The team elevated Scott from assistant GM but left “acting” in his title. Sources with knowledge of the situation said Alderson's son, Bryn Alderson, will also be more involved in the day-to-day responsibilities, while chiefly answering to his dad. Bryn Alderson was promoted to assistant GM in July alongside Ian Levin. The younger Alderson joined the Mets as a pro scout in 2011 and was promoted to assistant director of pro scouting in 2017 under then-GM Brodie Van Wagenen. One source familiar with the new front-office hierarchy told the Daily News it will be an “all-hands on deck” situation and a “group responsibility.” Sources said Sandy Alderson has been advised to focus on baseball, shifting from his previous team president duties, for the remainder of the 2021 season. https://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/mets/ny-zack-scott-dwi-not-guilty-20210902-awls6m2v2nb77egxk5dtycyshu-story.htmlhttps://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/mets/ny-zack-scott-dwi-not-guilty-20210902-awls6m2v2nb77egxk5dtycyshu-story.html
  11. Dodgers also slipped past the Giants into first place, meaning the second Wild Card looms as a ticket to San Francisco's South Beach. You know, in case Atlanta doesn't keep playing the Dodgers and we have to find some other way in.
  12. I looked at the Mets' record of two under; calculated they'd be seven over if not for having gone nine under vs LA and SF; and remembered they all count, dammit.
  13. Figueroa co-hosts a Mets podcast for the Post and is a generally upbeat social media presence.
  14. Jeff Passan: The fundraiser at Mets owner Steve Cohen's house before the arrest was Monday night, sources told ESPN.
  15. Acting General Manager Zack Scott is facing driving while intoxicated charges after he was busted dozing in his car in White Plains, The Post has learned. Scott, 44, was nabbed at 4:17 a.m. Tuesday when cops caught him snoozing in a 2018 Toyota on South Lexington Avenue near the federal courthouse, White Plains Police Capt. James Spencer said Wednesday. The embattled GM refused to give blood or submit to a breathalyzer but underwent a field sobriety test and failed, Spencer said. He was charged and released and is due back in White Plains City Court on Thursday. Scott's arrest is the latest hit for the Metropolitans, who have been struggling on the field and reeling from a series of controversies off the diamond in recent months. The team did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Wednesday. https://nypost.com/2021/09/01/mets-gm-zack-scott-busted-for-drunk-driving-in-white-plains/https://nypost.com/2021/09/01/mets-gm-zack-scott-busted-for-drunk-driving-in-white-plains/
  16. A game for the ages (and no thumb-driven apologies necessary).
  17. A big night for Amed.
  18. Al Leiter must be missing all those PSAs during Mets games and not know about the COVID-19 vaccines. Hall of Famer John Smoltz and former Met and Yankee Al Leiter will no longer appear in-studio for MLB Network after refusing to take the COVID-19 vaccine, The Post has learned. MLBN has made it mandatory for all employees to be vaccinated, with the mandate going into effect Sept. 1. MLBN executives, Smoltz and Leiter made a compromise to keep them on-the-air, but not in the Secaucus studios. They will both appear remotely for the shows. Smoltz will also still call a Division Series game on site in October. The two are regular in-studio analysts for the network. https://nypost.com/2021/08/31/al-leiter-john-smoltz-wont-appear-in-studio-at-mlb-network-after-refusing-vaccine/https://nypost.com/2021/08/31/al-leiter-john-smoltz-wont-appear-in-studio-at-mlb-network-after-refusing-vaccine/
