Edgy MD wrote: Reds lead 3-0 on a first-inning three-run homer off of Darvish by Mike Moustakas, who's only 31 but feels like he's been around for 20 years. those 3 runs were it for Darvish, who allowed only 2 hits and 3 walks over 6, striking out 9. Bauer has thrown 7 1-hit innings with 10 K's and is at 101 pitches (the game is in the top of the 8th, unknown if he is done for the night)
  2. how insane is it that the best pitcher in baseball, already 30, can "find" more velocity? maybe his arm is stronger from the longer offseason? is velocity up league-wide?
  3. Mets' COVID and a missed start might have doomed deGrom's chances at the CY Young. he is 1 start behind the league leaders (8 to their 9) - that could prove fatal in such a short season. The current contenders as I see them: deGrom is second to Darvish in ERA and ERA+ and is first by a slim hair in FIP (Fielding Independent Pitching). deGrom leads the league in strikeouts and K/9 despite the innings difference. Bauer is the only one with less innings and I included him because he has thrown 2 shutouts! what if he threw 2 more? the stats are going to be hard to separate in such a short year so that is a great narrative for him with voters. Fried just went on the DL which will likely remove him from the running - he was notable for having allowed zero homers which could have been a nice story for his candidacy if it kept up. He was also undefeated. I think if it ended today, Darvish wins the award with deGrom 2nd and Fried 3rd. 5. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=45391 time=1598927189 user_id=68] Steve Cohen can't get here fast enough.
  6. =bmfc1 post_id=45248 time=1598819602 user_id=73] Ramos can't get down the tag AGAIN.
  7. more COVID today as Hou/Oak was postponed. Given the periodic outbreaks and likelihood of unfair differential in number of games played/made up at end of year, an NBA style bubble for the playoffs is a good idea and I'd like to see a few days off after the regular season to set that up.
  8. Frayed Knot wrote: It slipped my mind for a second that they were the home team and that, therefore, the game was over. From Elias Sports Bureau: Amed Rosario's walk-off home run tonight was the first by a visiting player since the 19TH CENTURY. The last: Ed McKean for the St. Louis Perfectos at the Cleveland Spiders on May 12, 1899. Later Who knows you may see the Cleveland SPIDERS again soon when they decide it's time to abandon the current name . The lawsuits with Marvel over their new logo amd mascot ManSpider will be epic.
  9. Frayed Knot wrote: If this game gets rained out, will they replay it as part of a DH with next week's game and move that one to Yanqui Stadium too? And while we're on the subject, has ANY logical explanation been given for why BOTH of this weekend's DHs had to be played in the Bronx? fuck it, WE OWN THAT SHITHOLE STADIUM! But on a serious note, without the fans there I don't care which building we play in. not having all the Mets' stadium personnel exposed to both teams this weekend is a good enough reason to me.
  10. is it too late for the Mets to refuse to play tonight?
  11. Well, let's get going then! How about 8am/1pm/6pm triple header yankee spanking on monday?
  12. there are several different tests. one involved stick a huge stick wayyyy up your nose, the others dont

Screw Cespedes, addition by subtraction creating ABs for this guy! Also, when you name your kid 'Josh Smith' do you imagine he'll be in a class or on a baseball team with another Josh Smith one day? One of them should change their name to something more exciting like Josh Satin Satin is too close to Satan which would be frowned upon in Florida where you can't call yourselves the "Devil Rays"

  15. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Clutch hitting isn't a measurable skill. That doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. If it exists, it's a personality trait. Which players can up their focus in a key situation? Which players get wobbly knees? I don't discount the notion that some players are "clutch". Yeah? Then which ones? Derek Jeter, of course.

The problem isn't that they scored only 3 times after bags-loaded/no outs (2.5 is about the norm) ... it's that they scored only one additional run after they cashed in two and still had 2nd & 3rd/no outs even though they tacked on another double. Yeah and add in the dumb baserunning, the stupid managerial challenges that are ineffective (I feel like you should win 90% of those you initiate) the hbps, the walks on both sides, the bad outfielding on both sides. Just awful baseball Here's my solution: Lose a challenge and you lose the right to challenge again for a week! THAT would stop those piddley-ass challenges. The managerial challenges remain annoying. I don't want to find out if the string hanging off the second baseman's glove may have grazed a shoelace of the baserunner or f a ball down the line may have kicked up a microscopic amount of chalk. I want the baserunner in Galaragga's "perfect game" called out at first base because he was out by a foot. I'm down with no challenges for a week if you lose one. On the flip side, the humble umpires should be allowed to ask for one whenever they want. But demanding they do so without using your own challenge will be punished the same as arguing balls and strikes.
  17. =kcmets post_id=44048 time=1597718289 user_id=53] This game feels five hours old.

  19. Nido was like "shut the fuckup cranepool clowns" today.
  20. So impressed with Gimenez and to a lesser extent Guillorme. if Rosario for a good young starting pitcher was on the table I'd bite.
  21. And a .500 Mets team is still a serious contender in a 5 game series where deGrom can start 2 games

And I truly mean that from the bottom of my heart,” Stroman said Monday. “However this may play out in the future, obviously I would love to be a part of what they have going on. There's a lot that goes into that, but I can't say enough good things about this organization and my time here and everybody that's been involved.”
  23. At least he didn't pull a Cespedes. Good luck wherever he goes but hope he stays here
  24. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I've seen speculation that a lot of players may be delaying their opt-out until they hit service-time milestones. Oh well. I had hoped he'd be coming back soon. I guess he was just playing at his rehab. Well, if MLB couldnt predict that then they are just dumb negotiators.
