  1. i prefer getting twice the meat for half the price at a deli on the way to the game.
  2. it is hard to blame defensive positioning there unless you had stats showin that hitter was far more likely to hit it elsewhere. you get criticized for guarding the line or not gurading the line no matter which you do.
  3. a series of unfortunate events: valentine fired, howe hired, randolph hired...
  4. i dont think he belongs there longterm, but since piazza aint coming back and we know exactloy what castro will give us i seee no downside to the idea of giving jacobs a shot back there.
  5. why the fuck do we play the yankees twice a year? that bullshit is getting old...
  6. Echoooooooooooooooooo...
  7. go with your numbers, if the mets scouts were any good we wouldnt have to wait 10 years between strawberry and alfonzo and another 8 between alfonzo and wright.
  8. i'm suprised Schilling didnt make that list...i'll guess that the still open spot is Jim Bunning?
  9. more jacobs = good, because he is a possible component of the future while the other options aren't.
  10. in what alternate reality do you live? if they were "getting them right" they wouldnt be 4 years removed from a winning record
  11. ]Hernandez .326-7-24 in 273 at-bats AA i wanted hernandez in august, but if i remember correctly he was a converted SS so they didnt want to throw him in at 2B in june when he had just started playing there. that wouldn't have stopped me of course, and its still no excuse for not using Lambin.
  12. what the fuck else can you call it? its not like he was hitting anywhere near a respectable level. if .242/.289/.318 doesn't convince you that somebody sucks then i don't know what else to tell you. since the all-star break he's been even worse at .231/.268/.308. there is no logical reason for him to be in the lineup or even on the roster. this should all be obvious to a 10 year old, but a major league manager can't get it?
  13. and now instead of calling him up in july or august and hopefully having ~200 ABs to show us what he can do we get to see him for 2 weeks in which he probably won't start much and will therefore not give us enough information to know if we want to go forward with him in 2006. good job mets :/
  14. i agree about the relievers...and i even have to question the notion that hernandez's emergence means anything...he's 39, will he be helping us next year? i doubt it. if, however, bell had been handed the ball in the 8th all year and succeeded it would mean something, but we'll never know. as for the 2bmen hernandez could have been called up since at least early august, lambin since at least 3 weeks ago. cairo was the only choice when matsui got hurt but when he proved he sucked it was time to look elsewhere and willie didnt.
  15. ]But at the same time I can see him feeling like both options sucked (referring to the 2B situation) my response would be that once matsui proved he sucked and got hurt, and cairo proved he sucked too it was time to bring up one of our many MIs from AAA/AA and see what they could do.
  16. Rotblatt wrote: Absolutely fucking nothing. it took him over 2 months to realize each of these OBVIOUS things: 1) david wright should not be hitting 6th, 7th, or 8th. 2) ishii should not be starting 3) cairo should not be starting 4) how to make a double switch (ie dont pull a good hitter who will probably bat again, he's done this to both wright and floyd and sure enough their spot came up in a big spot and we got a pinch hitter) he only caught on to how bad matsui was because matsui got hurt. he still hasn't figured out that seo and heilman are better options than guys he has probably gauranteed jobs to for next year. why is gerald williams on the roster? why is danny graves still here? WE WANT BOBBY V
  17. saying "nobody's spot is safe" and "seo's spot isn't safe" are two completely different things. if willie the fool had said "nobody's spot is safe we wouldn't have a 3 page thread right now, but hed idn't. he said "my 2nd best pitcher's spot isn't safe"
  18. ]How did Peterson's pitching staff do again this year? DID OMAR OR WILLIE HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE KAZMIR DEAL? i assume you mean the starters, overall they did good...they'd have done great if they had either a) never traded for ishii, who was not necessary or cut bait with him when he once again proved he sucked. omar and willie work for WILPON and WILPON made the kazmir deal. fred's son has all the power around here.
  19. ]I'm assuming the experts (Peterson and the coaching staff, and Minaya in making the Ishii deal) saw something they didn't like they saw who they traded kazmir for and who they traded phillips for and gave those 2 guys spots.
  20. ]And considering the stats I posted, it seems like putting him in AAA to start 2004 was the right decision since, regardless of this year's performance, he apparently didn't have it last year. i said it before and i'll repeat myself...i was reffering to his '03 stats not earning him a spot in '04, not his '04 stats not earning him a place in '05.
  21. ]Actually, the two situations aren't even remotely the same. Have you actually looked at Seo's 2004 numbers? i was not referring to THIS year. i was reffering to his good 2003 not earning him a spot in 2004 because of spring training '04. stupid decision. ] And if Seo gets lit up all of next spring, Heilman is pitching lights out, and the other four pitchers have the spots locked up, I'm sure you'll be clamoring for Heilman to get Seo's "rightly deserved spot." Which, oddly enough, is exactly what I'm advocating, No, i'll be asking for Seo to get the spot he earned by being our best pitcher in the time he was here this year. But if if heilman is lights out i'll probably be be asking for him over Zambrano who stunk this year. -editted "stupid" to "stupid decision" to make it clear i was bashing the mets decision making and not calling the poster i quoted stupid.
  22. there is no express on weekends.
  23. ]Hey, this is how it works. There's a reason they have spring training. If Seo has a shitty spring, it's his own fault if it puts his 2006 rotation spot in jeopardy. You should have better stats in spring training than in the regular season, not the other way around. I'm sure management will take his 2005 performance into account when evaluating him for '06 out of spring training. i HATE this kind of reasoning and it is one of the huge problems with baseball today. 20 innings of spring training should not be allowed to dispprove a sample size 5-10x greater from the previous season! this same bullshit cost Seo a rightly deserved spot before.
  24. ]Reyes (his speed offsets his crappy OBP & OPS, to a certain extent) i disagree, but there isn't really any other option to lead off.
