  3. A bone to pick with the WFAN/Rose/McCarthy tonight... I know that whole telethon thing is for a good cause and all, but you should NOT have one of the sponsors on during a met game if you're going to talk to him as if this were a spring training game and ignore the action on the field, filling in later with "oh by the way Rowand singled", the worst was when i could hear a cheer from the crowd for a good defensive play yet it took at least a full 10 seconds for Rose to tell us what happened. This isn't spring training and it isn't television (i cant see what happening if you don't tell me.) if having this guy on is soooo important how bout giving up one of your precious commercial breaks between innings and staying with the anouncers through that to talk to him?
  4. we're tied.
  5. edit- wrong thread
  6. cool toy. Rollins' leadoff homer dropped the Mets chances from.540 to .440, going with only 2000-2006 it went from .539 to .431 I'm suprised. that means that in the past few seasons a lead-off homer is slightly MORE likely to hold up than it was in the past, i'd think the greater frequency of runs scored would make the opposit true. i guess the sample size is a bit small, i'll have to play with it later
  7. i liked delta force, of course a much better movie is about the real life incident from which delta force stole its plot- "Victory at Entebbe" The Israeli movie on the same incident, "Operation Thunderbolt" (Mivtsa Yonatan) is good too, but it has subtitles.
  8. at least at Shea i would choose the "bad" seats over field level. my favorite seats are the front rows of mezzanine behind the plate. if its a day game i'd even prefer to be further back under the overhang.

  10. From Rotoworld: ]Edwin Encarnacion was removed from Tuesday's game because he didn't run out his popup in the first inning. The lesson, as always, is that you got to have a 30- or 40-homer season under your belt before you decide to stop running out flyballs. Somehow, we don't think Ken Griffey Jr. would have gotten the same treatment from manager Jerry Narron. Still, Encarnacion figures to get the memo and at least jog to first base next time. Glad he got pulled for it, but rotoworld is right, most managers wouldn't have pulled a more accomplished player.
  11. uglliest game so far this year (4/11) it would be pretty easy to give Reyes 1 point, smith and feliciano .5 each and just stop there, i want to give out 10 points every game though, i just feel the totals work out better that way.
  12. i'd laugh my ass off if she found this board.
  13. wow, the Cubs just postponed today's home game do to snow. I can't remember a baseball season starting out this cold.
  14. transmonk, i'd guess you could get in to Miller Park for ~$10 every night.
  15. it is in the world of "i'll stick my fingers in my ears and avoid listening to anyone who has stats to point out to me"
  16. anyone know what what the record for walks surrendered is?
  17. disaster.
  18. between Indians-fans-in-exile, milwaukee fans who just wanted to see a game, miscellaneous baseball fans in the area and cleveland fan who thought this was a great time for a road trip i think 19k is a fair turnout, i'd have expected less if i was making a guess beforehand but this isnt that crazy how far IS cleveland from milwaukee? i know if the Mets had to play a home game in Baltimore or Pittsburgh I'd try my best to be there.
  19. I look forward to Iron Man, after the last Hulk movie (by far the worst of the recent flood of Marvel movies) its hard to be too enthusiastic. Thor will probably suck, why not just make an Avengers movie? Captain America, if set in WW2, could be amaing. If set in modern times (as most or all of the recent movies have been) its going to suck big time. I pray to god that its not Capt. America in Iraq, regardless of the view the producers will take of the war. Nick Fury is interesting..he's by far the least known marvel character that they're planning a movie on. the movie is therefore pretty likely to stand or fall on its own. it could be Delta Force, it could be terrible.
  20. DON'T DO IT!!! taking a girl who doest like he game to shea is a surefire way to jinx the mets! do us all a favor and take her to yankee stadium! edit- the yankee series is probably sold out, not only would you ben in the upper deck you'd be scalping tickets or buying them off ebay. early may games: 1st, 2nd, 11th-20th inclusive (18th-20th is yankees)
  21. IMO Randolph is a wash over the course of a season, he doesnt win or lose more games than the average manager, whatever that is.
  22. ]To me the argument that makes more sense is trying to rest the pen. (Did anyone else read that Heilman has tendonitis in his elbow?!?!) of course, if resting the pen is your excuse (and its a valid one) you've left open the question of why you didn't walk howard to face burrell.soupcan: wow. if this guy batted rey ordonez 4th would you still defend him because "well he's been in the game forever so he must know what he's doing." this was as bad an in-game management decision as i've seen. it deserves criticism.
  23. your "margin for error" is less in October than it is now, but it is the same now as it is in September. i don't think risking a win in april in this way does elevate your chances of winning in september by any measurable degree, i do think that before that AB the Mets had something like an 80% chance to win the game and after that AB their chances were under 20%. i don't think that even if "knowing something" about burgos was worth say .1% in every game the rest of the year that that would add up to the huge drop-off in your chances of winning this game. i also don't think you DO learn anything valuable about Burgos from 1 AB. If anything, you get a false impression about Burgos (he sucks because he gave up the HR, or he's great because he K'd Howard) based on this 1 AB that carries forward and messes up your thinking going forward. the proper way to learn about a player is to look at his statistics over a sufficient sample size. Burgos' career against lefties, Howard's against righties (and against lefties and Feliciano's against lefties) should have led to the obvious (to everyone not named willie randolph) decision to pull burgos for feliciano (or walk the guy for burrell). when, you might ask, does burgos get to build a resume that will allow you to evaluate him? when he's not facing the best lefty in the league with the tying run on 3rd and the go-ahed run on 2nd with BETTER OPTIONS available. on edit- while you don't gain much insight into Burgos from 1 AB, you DO gain significant insight into the thought process (or lack therof) of the manager, because while random chance and a million other factors will affect the outcome of the AB, nothig is affecting the "input", that is willie's decision. to put it more succinctly, we learned more about randolph than we did about burgos yesterday, and i dont like what i learned,
  24. ]If Randolph chooses to make something other than winning that particuar game the priority I suppose you could classify that as 'dumb', but again he is the guy that's going to suffer when it comes down to wins and losses. yes, thats dumb. we as fans suffer when our team loses and we have every right to criticize the team/mangement/whoever for not doing its best to win ]Perhaps at this point in the season building confidence and finding out exactly what he has in Burgos is slightly more important than that one game. I 100% disagree with that statement. First of all a win in April has the same value as a win in September, if you're unwilling to accept that very basic premise go find me some evidence that proves that September W's count twice. So the "at this point in the season" part is simply wrong. As for finding out what he has, the time and place to do that are either in spring training, in the minor leagues, or in a blowout. Wins are VERY VALUABLE. giving one away (or rather, significantly lessening your chances of getting one) in order to "find out exactly what" a middle reliever "has" (which, by the way, you are not going to find out from the sample size of one plate appearance) is foolish.
  25. now i get it! anyone who is hired is automatically qualified to be a major league manager on account of being a major league manager! brilliant! while i was only questioning this one move and not willie's overall intelligence i now do have to question you, under what circumstances CAN a manager's judgment be called into question? or are they immune to criticism in your fantasy world?
