I'm telling you, when you get past probablies and look at facts, there's no way to argue that the Mets have historically come out on top in the trade game. Or anywhere close to it. why don't we do this? i'll be happy to split the work if someone comes up with the parameters
  3. ]Yes the fact that Santana can easily turn into the next Victor Zambrano just as easily as he can turn into the next Al Leiter is a major concern thats not "the fact" or even "a fact." Santana is extremely unlikely to pitch as poorly as Zambrano, he is far more likely to pitch like Leiter, and even more likely to better than both.
  4. You're a city-dwelling elitist prick aren't you? You know that 500-square-foot former hallmark store where the shaggy haired, wire-glasses-wearing guy and his friends work? Where the films are arranged by director? Next to the coffee shop? Video Americain? Go there. its the place with shelves full of porn, don't pretend not to know it well.

  6. now i'm getting nervous
  7. Carlos Beltran
  8. my biggest worry is a failed physical, not by Santana, but by one of the prospects going back.

    Juno (2007)

i've only seen 4 of those movies (American Pie, Clueless, Fast Times and Ferris Buehler) I don't remember a pregnancy in any of them though my memory of Fast Times is pretty shaky.
  10. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: We'll sign him. It's all a matter of how stupid the money is. agreed. the mets don't make this deal and this disapoint the fan base by not getting it done. i know you're not allowed to talk to him beforehand but i have a strong feeling that they would have gotten a ballpark figure from his agent, perhaps it slipped out while discussing another client? Minaya: so what will it take to get Joe Shmoe on board? Agent: well, nothing like the 150 million over 7 years that Santana is gonna get, but about 1.5 mil each of the next 2 years should do it. Minaya: I see, i'll get back to you.
  11. would she go for it?
  12. thats awesome, lets start a fund- Mr. Met at Edgy's wedding!
  13. AG/DC wrote: Sounds like a lot of forsaken perspective there, particularly on (8). Santana's best ERA+ is 182 and his next best is 161. Pedro has had five seasons over 200. Take them away and his career has been comparable to Santana's. i was just going to rip on the idiots who voted that way. Pedro is in the ALL-TIME discussion, Santana isn't close.
  14. Willets Point wrote: Gil Meche had a good season for the lowly Royals. Would have been a good signing for the Mets last offseason. 20/20 hindsight, but he had his first good year since 2000 (when he pitched only 85 innings.) since then he had had ERA+ numbers of 94, 91, 82, and 99 after missing 2 years. if omar had given him 5 years/$55M we'd have been up in arms and rightfully so. lets see how the next few years pan out before we call that a good move
  15. ]Tapani was small potatoes, a dime-a-dozen guy that could be had for an economical price actually, guys like that get huge contracts now. see gil meche.
  16. Elster88 wrote: ="Valadius"]This is why I don't want to trade for Santana. That's a ridiculous thing to say. You can't look at one trade and have it dictate what you will do for the rest of time. unles that trade is the Seaver trade. never do that again.
  17. AG/DC wrote: Seems like the broad agreement of neutral observers had Gomez as the better prospect for the last two years. What has happened that has changed that, if only in the Mets' eyes? Twins fans seem to be saying the same thing- Martinez is the guy they wanted according to that message board that was linked int hat other post
  18. twins fans say: ]Minaya didn't compromise at all and Smith just bent over asked to get fucked. ]Ridiculous... that's all I can say ]It does look disappointing, but it's fine at this point. It does suck though they couldn't get Martinez ]It looks terrible right now, but in the future this could end up being something like the AJ trade. What if all of these players reach their full potential? Our pitching would be set for a LONG time, and we would have our CF of the future. But for right now... wow, I hate this trade ]It'll be a better deal for the Twins if Johan's arm falls off within the next 6-9 months.
  19. just heard this on the fan. assuming it is accurate and the Mets can come to terms i'm very happy.
  20. they should make the game between teams who would actually be happy to be there- college teams.
  21. Kevin Brown Chan Ho Park
  22. interesting. Rick Aguilera- a moderately succesful young starter in his 3 1/2 years with the Mets, the Twins would turn him into a good but not great closer for the next decade. Kevin Tapani- only a cup of coffee i NY, turned into a slightly below average starter in MIN and CHC (think Traschel), he did eat innings most years. David West- crapped out spectacularly with minnesota as a starter, had 2 good yaers relieving in Philly. Tim Drummond- pitched about 100 innings in the big leagues, last played at age 25 with a 96 ERA+ in 91 innings mostly in relief, i'm not sure where he went after that Jack Savage - never did anything. i can't speak as to how highly rated most of these guys were back then though i remember hearing that West was a very highly regarded prospect
  23. wow, what a bad year for movies.
  24. i have no problem with this, its like taking out insurance against sucking or having a career ending injur on Newsom's side. on the buyer's side its kinda like a stock (though maybe closer to gambling.) only thing that would concern me is people involved with the game (umpires, managers, GMs, or worst of all arbitrators) buying into one of these things
  25. didnt see that part, you hit the nail right on the head there
