But getting some wins under your belt at home in games 1 and 2 can be big too. but taking even one of those game on the road shifts the homefield to you, and then you look to win 2 of 3 at home which send you back needing only 1 win in 2 games... i dont think homefield means alot in a 7 game series
  2. i'm suprised so many yankee fans knew about the stupid back cover of the daily news, i didnt think their fans were literate. wagner blows it

I just wish it didn't put a 9-game winning streak on hold. Hopefully they'll get right back into the swing of things and sweep the four games in Cincinnati. thats about how i feel, i generally dont care one way or the other about the all-start braek but it came at an inconvenient time for a hot team
  4. by the way, espn.com is so busy with articles kissing yankee stadiumm's metaphorical ass that i could not even find an all-star roster, i had to go to mlb.com to see who was left on each bench.
  5. that run is not papelbon's fault, all he did was allow a single, navarro made a terrible throw to let tejada get to 3rd and the sac fly brought him in. Wilson will pitch the 8th, does that mean Wagner will close or will it be Lidege?
  6. HAHA jeter hits into a doubleplay
  7. Frayed Knot wrote: Geez, Bob Feller turns 90 later this year and looks like he can still pitch. (OK that 2nd part is a bit of an exaggeration but the age is accurate and he looks pretty damn good). he can still talk too, he was on wfan with lori rubinson (sp?) the other day and sounded great. he was ripping on todays players as unprofessional showboats.

fine they are next to meaningless and a great example of lazy journalism where researching and adding the information that would have made them far more meaningful wouldn'thave been hard to do. i really dont know if the MLB numbers are comparable, but if the NFL rosters are twice as large as MLB's (and with 2 extra teams) then 5 arrests for domestic violence equals out to about 2 in MLB, i'd have to think there were 2 domestic violence arrests in MLB

how do you know there aren't MORE arrests on a per capita basis among the population at large in the same age group, or among baseball players? without at least one of these numbers the numbers he gives are meaningless.

]No he isn't. He stated those figures to support a theory, plainly stated as such, that violence in the sport is replicated in domestic incidents, not that football has more arrests for that than baseball. and without providing context for those arrests he hasn't supported his theory at all.

]In 2006, for instance, the Washington Post compiled a non-exhaustive list of NFL player arrests for the year. Of those 41 (!) arrests, five were for various flavors of domestic assault. how many baseball players were arrested? how many fior domestic violence? what is the size of the player pool in each league? what are the demographics (race, age, etc) in each league and how do these numbers compare to the population at large? without answering these questions Mr. Perry is providing us with noise.
  13. ]- does his in-game strategy differ from Willie and, if so, how? - Are starters being used differently? Longer leash / quicker hook? - Are there really more strictly defined roles for the relievers or is that just talk so far? - How about the lineups - any trends or tendencies changed since the change? - Big ball vs small ball - Are the players hustling more and/or playing smarter? its early to say too much, butheres what i've noticed so far. this is all observation not based on my checking numbers: -he bunts less than willie -he leaves pitchers in the game longer and doesnt care about high pitch counts for pelfrey and santana (maybe for others as well i'm not sure) -he or wharten is really pushing Pelfrey, and i like it. -he yells at umps more its hard to come to too many more conclusions this early on
  14. 8 shutout innings!! no walks!!
  15. Pelfrey, at 114 pitches and with 2 on, will face another batter. thats a rarity today and i like it.
  16. i'm not against using starters in relief when it helps the team, but in a 7-0 game it would be pretty foolish to put Santana on the mound, it would be like putting your starting position players into the game in a blowout instead of taking them out of it.

]No it means that every once in a while a blind acorn finds the nut where do i find a sighted acorn?
  18. nice 7 innings from Pelfrey. Normally I'd keep him going, but with the next 3 days off is there anyone in the bullpen who needs some work?

steve is just a bitter yankee fan in 3rd place trying to make met fans feel bad
  20. ]If he was white, he'd be the folk hero of scrappiness. well, he'd have to be unjustifiably handed an every day job, andalso stop hitting the ball more than 50 feet (see: Eckstein)
