the Yankees have now agreed to terms with 1B/DH Nick Johnson. Johnson will receive roughly 5.5 million dollars for his services.

someone in the Post today said the Mets preffered Bay's pull-hitting to Holliday's gap-hitting because of Citi Field. I don't know if he pulled that out of his ass or if the Mets PR machine "leaked" it as justification for not going after the better player

I wouldn't want to touch Wang...I always thought he looked ready to collapse, the magic act is likely over. Ryan Garko was non-tendered, he hits lefties very well and isn't a total lost cause against righties, if he doesnt mind a platoon and PH roll i'd throw wilpon's money at him.

both situations have their merits, but i'd rather have a top prospect who might become a star than a handful on bench guys and injury-replacements. the mets could have used the latter last year but thats not most years.

the yankees got what they wanted here, they have the money to likely never regret dealing jackson or kennedy, they can buy guys like they might become. arizona, to me, got shafted here. Scherzer is imo the 2nd best player in this deal and 2 years from now may look better than Granderson

So the Mets are expected to provide Buffalo with prospects that don't exist? maybe hold off on making the Santana trade so that a few more fans trickle in to the AAA stadium to watch a Kevin Mulvey start? or push some guy at AA even harder to make the AAA club happy?

I'm not going to miss the guy, mediocrity is easy to find and the Mets might as well try to find better upside, even if they just end up with a younger/healthier version of Schneider

I don't like Cora (or rather his baseball skills), but he could have easily said "I'm hurt, i'm not playing" and collected his paycheck at a time when the Mets were very short on warm bodies. If this is his "thank you" for being a loyal soldier thats fine, as long it doesnt hurt the budget on getting the help this team really needs.
