  1. Thanks edgy. Fire that ump!
  2. Unless that camera is more offset than the writer says, those are not strikes.
  3. Edgy DC wrote: It's pretty frustrating that nobody authoritatively publishes data on failed sacrifice attempts. You've got to assume it's been reliably compiled for years. Since we have extensive data on expected AVG by count (you have a lower expected AVG on 0-1 than you do on 0-0 etc), the title could be "Wasting Strikes: failed sacrifice bunt attempts and their negative effects on expected runs", because besides the fact that bunting is generally stupid, it isn't a case of "no harm no foul" when a hitter fails to get the bunt down and is forced to continue the plate appearence with a now worse count. Ps: bunts suck. Laughed my ass off when I saw what happened to the Padres
  4. Wright smoked that ball right at the guy, he's on fire right now!
  5. Does Nickeas' passed ball go in the error column in the box score? If so it should count
  6. From the NYM Pessimist Department: The Mets really failed to capitalize there, let's hope they don't need those insurance runs they left on base.
  7. Frayed Knot wrote: The Braves got caught some years back for (intentionally as it turns out) drawing the catcher's box too wide. Much better to set up and get calls on those 6-8 inches outside Glavoxx cutter/change-ups. This one sounds like it might just be a screw-up but who knows. Javy Lopez used to setup entirely outside the box even when it was there. Glavine was the reason for Queztec
  8. Dickey was on yesterday's Baseball Today podcast (at www.espn.com/podcenter) promoting the book. I'm in the middle of Hayhurst's "Bullpen Gospels" and loving it, "Out of My League" is next on my list, and then I'll probably give Dickey's book a shot.
  9. If Ike is sitting I'd prefer Duda moves to 1B and Hairston starts over Turner starting.
  10. Captain Kirk with a huge homerun, where is Zvon with his graphics when we need him???
  11. Mets Willets Point wrote: awesome picture, how long were you saving that one?
  12. Mets win! Knicks win in overtime seconds later! Carmelo drilled a 3 with Deng in his face and then the Knicks defended well to force a bad shot from Chicago, 100-99 Knicks
  13. dont look now but the braves are back in business... Mets need to close this game out and get the sweep, every game counts and a game you led 7-0 is one you will be looking back on in september if you lose it and the standings are close.
  14. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
  15. Mets Willets Point wrote: Kudos to the spectator who got out of Wright's way so he could make that grab. The woman in the front row looked like she was cowering in terror that the ball may come near her
  16. Wright stung that ball but a nice grab at third, at least he looks good early this year
  17. Duda with his 2nd homer! And how about Kirk's 2nd hit of the day? Let's go mets!!
  18. Wright fielding the bunt well! Izzy taught Parnell a knuckle-curve and he ditched the slider? Wow I really didn't pay attention last year
  19. Murphy had a single off the wall just now, double to the mo-zone last year. Wright follows with a single, a passed ball makes it 2nd and 3rd. Do you walk Ike to get to Bay here? Livan opting not to so far... On 2-0, 3 straight curve balls for strikes (the 3rd was fouled) then ball 3 on a fastball and another curveball for strike 3 looking. Don't underestimate Livan's veteran savy!
  20. Captain Kirk beats one out, way to hustle!
  21. Chag Sameach from David Wright! And thankfully no Met games during seders this year! What did Murphy just do??
  22. Vic Sage wrote: well, THAT was fast. Captain Kirk flying in to take up Torres' spot BEAMING in!
  23. 12-9, 3.55 in 29 starts, he's going to be that guy who they don't score for.
  24. Source: Beam Him Up To The Bigs. So how long do you think it's gonna take for the James T. Kirk puns to die.....cos I;m not sure I can live in a world where I'm exposed to them on a daily basis. I'm hoping never.. just hope he doesn't re-injure himself pushing too hard. Ditto on both counts, Live Long and Prosper, Star Trek jokes!
  25. Good to get Santana out of the game here unscathed.
