  1. According to Adam Rubin, Terry took the blame and went out of his way to show how Saint Johan was looking out for his teammate: Collins originally wanted Santana to pitch on one extra day of rest Thursday, with R.A. Dickey pitching a day early and Jeremy Hefner unneeded for a spot start. Santana replied that he did not want to disrupt Dickey's groove. So Santana requested to go on normal rest Wednesday, albeit with a low pitch count. Instead, Collins opted for the two extra days following Santana's 134-pitch no-hitter. "He's rusty," Collins said. "It's my doing, not his. ... We erred on the side of caution and it cost us the game tonight."
  2. Were any of these the yankee little league homers to the short porch?

Whatever they negotiate is reasonable, if Kenny and Tom don't like it they can take their talents to ABC/ESPN/YES. Unlike, say, a drafted baseball prospect.

You can add "plus career minor leaguers as necessary to fill positions" to each of these: AAA Buffalo- hasbeens, major league depth, occasional prospects AA Binghamton- prospects almost ready for majors, perhaps after several years at st lucie/savannah A St Lucie - prospects make it here only after showing something at savannah, this is where automatic promotions stop and nobody ever really gets assigned here out of the draft A Savannah - prspects advanced here from brooklyn/kinsport almost automatically, rarely college draftees go straight here Short season Brooklyn - most college draftees and some really good HS kids plus last year's Kingsport standouts Rookie Kingsport - starting point for most high school and some college draftees Dominican team(s) - foreign rookies who aren't highly thought of enough for Kinsport/Brooklyn
  5. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I think I understand when one of these streaks ends, but I'm not clear on when it starts. Let's say you give up a two-out homer in the sixth inning, get the third out, and then pitch a scoreless seventh before leaving the game. You then throw a nine-inning shutout in your next start. At that point, is your streak at 10 innings, or 10 1/3? In my opinion, you're at 10 1/3.
  6. Bad job Doody! Got to get Wright home there, give the shitpen a bigger cushion
  7. INSURANCE RUNNER! Get him in!!!
  8. Benjamin Grimm wrote: An infield single, and Dickey exits. Come on coach, they haven't even hit a flyout yet, don't pull him on that groundball single! One more batter! I'm closing my eyes as the bullpen comes in. Terry criticism- if you're going to pull a guy after he gets an easy groundball out and then a grounder for a single, you should have hit for him in the top of the 8th.
  9. Ugh right back to the pitcher fuckdamnshit
  10. QHit by a pitch on his foot... Kazmar has to be sitting with his bags packed and nervously checking his cell phone every two minutes$
  11. Missing Strasburg and Gonzalez and still getting swept would be horrible, let's beat Wang around like the ex-MFY with a 6.d ERA that he is and get back on track! (Why the fuck is Wang in the rotation while Lannan and now Detwiler aren't?)
  12. Edgy DC wrote: And of course, he's spent much of his Mets career doing just that. Is there any reason his 2011 chapter was interspersed into little chapterlets throughout the book? It didn't really help the narrative. My guess is that the book comes to the dramatic conclusion in 2010, and the rest is boring tiresome "Life After Garp" epilogue, but he had this extra material by the time he was finished, and it would have been conspicuous had they left 2011 out, so they chopped it up and turned it into garnish. Poor 2011! That's probably right, but I found the glimpses ahead to the "good times" of 2011 to be uplifting intervals while reading through his struggles. This was one small area in which I found his book to be superior to Hayhurst's "out of my league"
  13. Well at least we know he still has the skill/eye not to swing at that garbage, because there are plenty of major leaguers who would never have the discipline to take what the pitxher gives them and draw two walks in a game even if the pitcher is a bit wild. It took almost two months to convince me it was time to send him down so one game won't convince me he is back. I'd still send him down tonight, but if they don't I hope he can string more of these performances together and prove he should stay.
  14. Wow, well done Tyler.
  15. Satin DFA'd, Chris Young on Paternity Leave, let's thank his wife for giving us a very convenient excuse to add Beato for a few days when we're in need of a pitcher in the pen.
  16. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Ike's gotta get the boot. I don't even care if he thinks that AAA won't help him, it's about helping us. Who replaces him? I'm not looking to move Murphy off 2nd right now with all our injuries in the SS/2B group, could it be Duda? That leaves an outfield of Bay-Niewenhuis-Torres-Hairston and I guess Rottino as 5th OF/backup 1B... I think I like that setup better than the one where Rottino gets sent down and Niewenhuis sits to get Bay his ABS... I'd send Ike down to acxtivate Bay.
  17. Buster Olney says that 25 or so teams are close enough that they aren't ready to be sellers yet, so who are the 5 potential sellers? I'm seeing the Cubs, A's, Mariners, Twins, and Padres as the best possibilities. Any Metly interest in their guys?
  18. With the 75th overall pick in the 2012 draft, the Mets selected High School Righthanded pitcher Teddy Stankiewicz! So I'll try to keep you all up to date on his progress through the Mets system (but I'm dropping him like a stone if he doesn't sign, sorry Teddy!)
  19. Ceetar wrote: Edgy DC wrote: Tim Teufel, I'm sure, is a great leader of men, but he was also the worst in the league at turning two. I'm glad to see him on the Mets staff, but I can think of two dozen men without trying that I'd rather see as our big league infield instructor. is there a correlation? between the physical ability to do it and the ability to teach others to do so? He must be PERFECT for the job, haven't you ever heard the saying "those who can, do. Those who can't, teach."
  20. Santana 6 Baxter 3 ThirdBaseUmpire 1
  21. Lost radio signal in inning 11 and just got home a little while ago. fuuuuuuuuuuuuck
  22. You have to think someone is leaving tonight for Beato/Schwinden/whoever to come help out tomorrow. Besides the Dickey option, the Mets could ask Hefner to give them something and eliminate his start (Mets are in 6 man rotation right now)
  23. Edgy DC wrote: Next pitcher out of the pen? Elvin? How bout Dickey! Howie says Elvin Ramirez the only pitcher available is warming now.
  24. HE'S NO KENNY FUCKING ROGERS! Parnell comes back from a 3-0 count to Strike out Ankiel!
