  2. There's reason to be hopeful, if you're so inclined, because it's true, anything can happen. But I don't see any reason at all to be optimistic.
  3. Actually, I think it was around the time of the trip to San Juan. They were rolling along until they got there, and have been staggering since.
  4. I'm about 98 per cent sure the answer to that is no.

  6. He's not here to talk about the past.
  7. Oh well. I think the Mets should at least play 50 full seasons before they get their no-hitter.
  8. It sure would be nice to get Johan some runs.
  9. Maybe, just maybe, Carlos Delgado will be the next guy to hit his 500th home run: MLB.com wrote: Red Sox sign Delgado to Minors deal The Red Sox may have added some veteran insurance for the stretch drive on Saturday, when they signed Carlos Delgado to a Minor League contract. Delgado, a two-time All-Star and three-time Silver Slugger, will spend the next few weeks playing his way into shape at Triple-A Pawtucket before a potential promotion. Delgado, who has hit 483 career home runs, has missed all of the season due to a hip condition that required two operations. He played in just 26 games for the Mets last year, and if he manages to make it up to Boston, it would be his first appearance with an American League club since his tenure with the Blue Jays ended in 2004. The Red Sox are likely hoping that Delgado can help fill the void left by first baseman Kevin Youkilis, who was lost for the season with a torn muscle in his right thumb. Delgado, an All-Star in 2000 and 2003 with Toronto, has hit at least 30 home runs in 11 different seasons, most recently with the Mets in 2008, his last full year of action.

  12. I guess it could mean Martinez and Castillo are being dealt. I suppose it might also mean that Francoeur and Tejada are being dealt.

  14. batmagadanleadoff wrote: OK. Here's a hint that I promised I wouldn't give. One poster almost got it right. His one mistake was picking a Met whose best WAR season was the team's 16th all-time best. It looks like that was me! (I had Viola instead of Leiter.) I'll take that as a moral victory. That Marcia Brady sure was groovy, wasn't she? I think she was the grooviest girl in the whole school!
  15. batmagadanleadoff wrote: How do you verify that the poster is the player that he says he is? Unfortunately, I can't.
  16. This wasn't the first submission by Larry. He had previously commented on some of his former teammates.
  17. Seaver, Koosman, Gooden, Cone, Viola, Santana, Matlack
  18. Reminders of "David" Banner make me Bruce Banner angry! Wouldn't it be just like the Mets to replace Francoeur (whose name most of us have finally learned to spell) with a guy who's name is even trickier than Mientkiewicz! Nieuwenhuis may not be very Schaefer-friendly, but I think he has a shot at being in the 2011 outfield, but for that to happen Beltran or Pagan would also have to exit with Francoeur. (And he'd have to outplay Martinez.) I suspect that Pagan is staying. A move of Beltran seems unlikely, but could be possible. Maybe Nieuwenhuis will be a mid-season callup in 2011 and take over the job in 2012. At 25, he won't be too old to start a major league career.
  19. I can see how confidence and attitude can help you win, but not nearly as much as winning can affect your confidence and attitude. More than anything else, this reads more like it was written by somebody who wants to be covering a more colorful team.
  20. He seems to be saying that the Mets should have an unshakable confidence in their ability to win. Pretty tall order for a team that's lost 22 of its last 33 games.
  21. Only six voters so far for Wednesday's loss to the Braves in Atlanta. I'll keep the voting open until Monday morning. If you're not among the six who have voted, (and you intend to vote) please get your numbers in either today or over the weekend. Schaefer POTG 8/4/10 - Braves 8, Mets 3
  22. Well, it's Friday morning, and I just verified that the sun did indeed arise. Any comment from Fred regarding this?
  23. I like how you said "him or her" to avoid insulting any female horses who might be reading this thread.
  24. He's on a pace to hit 25 home runs this year. Assuming he sticks to that pace for the next several years (which isn't a safe assumption, of course) he'll pass Bonds in about six and a half years, when he'll be about 42. When Babe Ruth was 40, he hit 6 home runs. In the year he turned 40, Willie Mays hit 18. Hank Aaron had 20. Barry Bonds had 45. Ken Griffey Jr. had 19. Sammy Sosa was already finished.
  25. I think it would be an admission that Pelfrey isn't getting it done, and that they want to send their best pitchers out there in an attempt to stay in the race. Letting Pelfrey continue to get hammered is more of a towel throw, I think.
