  1. No. Pelfrey and Dickey and Pagan are not free agents, so the only reason for them not to go to arbitration is if they negotiate a contract beforehand.
  2. No guarantee that Pedro will be back. He's still free to sign with someone else.
  3. Edgy DC wrote: It spells absolutely typical for a manager in his position. Sheesh. I know! Some people are desperate to find subtext.
  4. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Adam Rubin wrote: Mets will offer arbitration to Pedro Feliciano. 3 minutes ago Confirmed by Sandy on SNY.
  5. Sandy: Dave Jauss and Randy Niemann will be "making decisions" in the next couple of days. Howard Johnson and Razor Shines will not be coming back.
  6. Bobby Ojeda is pretty energetic too.
  7. Would David Lennon have asked, "Will you bring more Long Island players to Mets?"
  8. Kevin gets the first interview too.
  9. "Will you bring your Asian experience to Mets to help them win more?" "Will there be more Asian players on the Mets?" I think the same reporter asked very similar questions at Sandy's conference.
  10. "Energy" is up there too. It's a two-year deal, with a club option for 2013.
  11. Terry Collins (paraphrased) wrote: When there's dual respect, players take on the personality of the manager. And if that happens, there will be a lot of energy at Citi Field.
  12. Kevin Burkhardt always seems to get the first question, doesn't he?
  13. He does seem energetic. He talks very quickly.
  14. Terry: "I'm not an evil devil." Shades of Christine O'Donnell?
  15. Sandy was brief... now Terry is stepping up. Wearing a blue cap for the photo op.
  16. We're underway... Sandy has just taken the podium.
  17. Press conference to start at 11 a.m., carried live on SNY and Mets.com. Sandy Alderson wrote: Dear Mets Fans: We are pleased to announce we have hired Terry Collins as our new Manager. Terry's a lifelong baseball man who comes with the entire package - leadership, preparation, emotional commitment, and the drive to win. We believe Terry's knowledge of our players, energy, intelligence, intensity, and direct approach will make an immediate, positive impact both in the clubhouse and on the field. Terry spent six years as a major-league manager, leading the Anaheim Angels and Houston Astros to winning records and second-place finishes in his five full seasons. He managed the Angels from 1997-1999 and the Astros from 1994-1996, compiling an overall record of 444-434 (.506). We will introduce Terry to the media this morning during a press conference at 11:00 a.m. at Citi Field. SNY and Mets.com will carry it live. Terry will work closely with the Baseball Operations department with the goal of delivering a team of which you can be proud in the short and long term. Thanks for your ongoing support and interest. I just noticed that both our manager and our GM have androgynous first names.
  18. The press conference will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow. Looks like the Mets are confirming that Warthen and Hale will retain their coaching positions from last year.
  19. I don't see any reason to worry. 2011 is likely to be fairly sucky anyway. If Terry screws up as badly as some fear, there will be someone else in place in 2012.
  20. I expect Terry's reign to be relatively brief. He's 61 years old, and he hasn't shown staying power in his other jobs. This is one of the reasons I was hoping for Chip Hale. Chip, at least, if things go well, can stick around for 10 or 15 years. That seems a lot less likely with Terry. One thing I read today said that Chip was a close second. That may or may not be true, but perhaps the plan is for Terry to groom Chip to take over in 2013?
  21. The buzz has been that HoJo would be removed from the big league coaching staff, but would probably get another job within the organization. We'll probably get the details about Terry's coaching staff before too long.
