My first Mets homer in person was a three-run shot by Jim Fregosi, on June 27, 1972, the day my dog was born. I think the only really famous one I was present for was Carter"s Opening Day walkoff in 1985. I was there for some bad ones, including Terry Pendleton in 1987 and Mike Scioscia in 1988. Has anyone in this thread mentioned Tim Harkness? That was a big homer from the Mets early years.

I think he'll be one of those players, like Snell and Montgomery and Martinez this year, who remain unsigned until March. And by then the Mets will have moved on. That's my prediction, not my desire. I want him to stay with the Mets and be the player he was just a couple of years ago.

I was at Shea, in the Upper Deck, for 1986 World Series Game 6 and the fans started pouring out after the Red Sox scored in the top of the tenth. I remember thinking that they were risking missing a fantastic comeback. And when that actually happened, I wondered (later) how they felt when they were in the parking lot and heart the stadium erupt. I thought of that night when I saw all of the empty seats late in Game 1 yesterday. This was the first instance when I was glad that Phillies fans had no cause for remorse.

I don't either. I remember Utley breaking Tejada's leg, that Game 5 against the Dodgers was especially tense, the homer that Familia gave up against the Royals in Kansas City in Game 1, and Matt Harvey asking to close out Game 5 and not doing it.
