  1. Maybe he'll sell the team if he gets elected President of Russia.

  3. Are you going to move the walls and paint them blue?
  4. Ryan Theriot played 91 games at shortstop in 2011 (and 35 at second base.) .271/.321/.342.26 doubles, 1 homer in 442 at bats. I was thinking that the Mets don't have any big leaguers with shortstop experience other than Tejada. (Or am I overlooking someone?) Theriot will probably be too expensive to play backup, but I figured I'd point out his name anyway.
  5. I'm amazed that I was able to win this one year. I have no idea what either "meter" or "scansion" are. I don't think I've ever even heard the word ""scansion".
  6. Hmmm... Lucas May, 27, has been catching in AAA for the last two years. Given the Mets' lack of depth at the position, it looks like he's worth having around, just in case.

I saw her open for Bob Newhart at Westbury in 1991 on the night the Mets' illusory winning streak reached ten. I'm glad somebody got the reference! (And yes, I figured it was a longshot.) And... OMG! I was at that same show! I don't know if it was a one-night only performance; we may or may not have been there on the same night.
  8. I think the award goes to Suzette Charles.
  9. I gave it 3 stars. It was entertaining, and nicely done, but I felt like I've seen the same movie already several times.
  10. Yeah, I have no problem with Sandy's sane and measured approach. As much as I hated to lose Jose, what are the odds that a guy who's been injury prone in his 20's is going to be less injury prone in his 30's?
  11. I could think of a hook for four of the five guys. John Christensen? Not so much.
  12. When optimism dies, it dies hard.

  14. I think the Mets can be a good, maybe even a very good, team before too long. But good enough to win? That's going to require some more time, or quite a bit of bad news for the other four teams in the NL East.
  15. Neither am I. The Cards have had a better recent history than we have, but a worse week.
  16. This is worse, for them, than losing Reyes is for us. By a LOT.
  17. Yeah, but do you doubt that they would have gone higher and higher if necessary? I don't.
  18. I've come to realize that there's no way the Mets could have resigned Jose, even if they did everything right. The Marlins are clearly in drunken sailor mode, and they would not have been denied.

  21. That's a good idea. Get rid of everybody that we enjoy rooting for. It will encourage me to spend a lot less time watching, reading about, and thinking about the Mets.
  22. I think this will be resolved by the Marlins throwing a few million dollars at Hanley in one guise or another. Or maybe they'll have to eat the bulk of his salary and trade him to the Mets.
  23. The excitement of Jose seems somehow far away The glory of '06 is of another day I've been getting little hope from reporters in Manhattan And don't get me started about Jason Bay I'll give my heart to Frank Francisco From on the hill, Terry calls to him To be where little crowds watch a team devoid of stars The other fans all feel despair, I don't care My hopes now lie, with Frank Francisco Up on the mound, is where you'll be When I will look to you, Frank Francisco And games your arm will save for me
  24. I can't remember how to pronounce his name. I'm thinking it's "Rowsh" but I'm not sure. (With the "row" rhyming with "cow" and not with "low")
  25. Edgy DC wrote: Nieuewnhius may come fast. Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he displaced Torres some time before the end of the season.
