  1. Well, the answer to your final question is... In the Avengers movie: Because there are no X-Men or Fantastic Four in this universe. In the comics: Sometimes you do see that. The Avengers will show up to help out the FF, and Reed will say, "We've got this one, guys." (And for some reason the Avengers back off.) Or sometimes the two teams team up. And sometimes the excuse is that the FF are off on some mission in outer space. (Even if in their own comic that month they're fighting the Ringmaster and his Circus of Crime in Queens.) And sometimes they just ignore this question. There's a certain amount of disbelief that you have to suspend for this kind of stuff. Me, sometimes I can do that and sometimes I can't. For example, in Superman, I was okay with the flying and the x-ray vision and the space capsule from Krypton, but not with him reversing time by flying backwards around the planet.
  2. I admit that if I didn't have a since-childhood affinity and affection for these characters, I probably wouldn't have gone to see the movie. (But I might have watched it when it came to cable.) But I do have that affection, and seeing a movie like this makes me feel like a kid again. And I think that that's the level that it works at, for me.
  3. The 8,000th regular season game in Mets history! (Of the 7,999 played so far, the Mets have won 3,829, leaving them with a winning percentage of .479. There were 8 tie games.)
  4. Is it? I may not have much of a nose for blasphemy, but this doesn't seem like it would fall into that category. (Is that an actual unaltered biblical quote? I guess I could look it up if I was motivated.) I know that it's a play on words on Deuteronomy, and while I have no idea who or what Deuteronomy was, unless he was some kind of a god (unlikely in a monotheist religion) I can't see how playing with his (or her, or its) name is blasphemous.
  5. Mets giving out this t-shirt on Tuesday. Says... Duda-ronomy 28:3 "Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the field."
  6. Voting for Wednesday's win in Philadelphia will close some time over the weekend, perhaps as early as Saturday morning. If you have votes to cast, please try to do so today. Schaefer POTG 5/9/12 - Mets 10, Phillies 6
  7. Ceetar wrote: However, you're closer to the Alyssa Milano Touch shop. Do they let you touch Alyssa Milano? That's a nice Plan B if you can't get into the BJ Clubhouse.
  8. I'm not convinced that there's any need for a balk rule at all.
  9. We do have a Rankings Forum you know. However, that forum doesn't seem to include the rankings. Oh well.
  10. His middle finger looks translucent. I can almost swear I can see his teeth through his finger.
  11. I can get it up higher than anyone!
  12. Please post your retinal scan then.
  13. Don't do it! He's trying to get images of your fingerprints!
  14. Yeah, if the Mets can fend off the Marlins this weekend it would be pretty big. A sweep would be fantastic, but I'd be quite happy with two out of three.
  15. I have the same wedding ring, except I wear it on my left hand.
  16. Voting for Tuesday night's win in Philadelphia will close on Friday morning. Schaefer POTG 5/8/12 - Mets 7, Phillies 4

  18. Terry says that Ronny Cedeno will play in a minor league game today, and be activated for tomorrow's game in Miami.
  19. By pitching into the sixth inning last night, I assume that Batista has secured himself at least one more start.
  20. Ike is well on the way to transitioning a bad start into a bad season. I don't think it's the ankle. I'm not sure whether or not it's the fungus fever.
  21. SCHAEFER METS PLAYER OF THE WEEK Week ending April 14: Jon Niese, 6.63 points. Week ending April 21: Mike Pelfrey, 7.85 points. Week ending April 28: Lucas Duda, 8.00 points.
