  1. Being in a Verizon store makes grown women weep.
  2. I wasn't watching at all, but I checked online in the middle of the fifth and the Mets had just scored four runs and taken a four-run lead. I toyed with the idea of watching for a little while, but opted not to. So I just missed the joy of seeing the Mets give up 11 runs in one inning. That open rotation spot is going to be tricky, isn't it? Does Schwinden get another shot in five days? I'd rather see Schwinden than Batista, but I'd rather see Hefner than Schwinden. Are there any other viable options within the organization?
  3. I'm not sure where the Yankees thread became a pet peeve thread, but it doesn't seem inappropriate that it went that way. I remember once I was at Woolworths (yes, this was quite a while ago) and the man in front of me at the checkout line was from the Middle East somewhere. He actually wanted to negotiate the total of his order with the cashier. She said $72 and he offered her 50. When she refused to budge even a little he was totally perplexed and walked away without completing his purchase.
  4. Let me guess... he got the nickname because he had antlers?
  5. We'll have to ask Valadius to break down the nickname methodology.
  6. Or that the Mets drafted him instead of Reggie Jackson. If Reggie was a Met, the 1973 World Series might have turned out a bit differently.
  7. This was in Brian Lewis' article in the New York Post: General manager Sandy Alderson added: It was an unusual circumstance with all the players in the lineup being homegrown, and a testament to the players that were signed and developed under [former GM] Omar [Minaya].
  8. Lutz would be the most likely guy to be sent down to make room for Torres, correct?
  9. And this forum would have about seven billion members.
  10. Does it include his frozen head?
  11. MFS62 wrote: Remind them about 1986? Kid them about Bill Buckner? No, and no.
  12. Are you not supposed to pronounce the P in Hempstead? If so, I've been saying it wrong for decades although I rarely speak aloud about Hempstead.
  13. Yeah, I hear you. That's why I don't do that too often anymore. My Saturday mornings have gotten busier too.
  14. I'm assuming that the votes awarded by Fman to "Franco" were intended for Frank Francisco, and not for John, Matt, or Julio.
  15. Voting for Wednesday night's win over the Marlins at Citi Field will close sometime over the weekend, perhaps as early as Saturday morning. If you haven't voted yet and plan to, please try to do so today. Schaefer POTG 4/25/12 - Mets 5, Marlins 1
  16. Watch it on DVR-delay on Saturday morning! I used to do that all the time and it's a nice way to start the day. And you get to skip the commercials.
  17. Box score Niese 4 Nieuwenhuis 3.5 Ramirez 1.5 Turner 1
  18. That's a helluva home grown lineup that the Pirates put together there. I hope, 10 or 15 years from now, that today's Mets lineup looks that impressive.
  19. That's not really Ike Davis, is it?
  20. Marlins score on a GIDP. Middle fifth, Miami leads 2-1.
  21. Sanchez' homer, by the way, went over the original wall. Easily. So, Keith thought there were 34 days in April this year? Huh???
  22. Gaby Sanchez homer ties it up at 1. I did hear Gary saying how April never has 31 days, but I didn't catch what prompted that. What was it that Keith said??
  23. First triple of the season for the Mets!
  24. Official scorer confirms that it's a triple.
