  7. With contraction on the table so recently, I don't think expansion is in the cards any time soon. I would say that it won't happen until and unless the Athletics find a new home. The conventional wisdom (with which I disagree) is that there are no markets that a team can move to, but I think this thread indicates otherwise. I would think that Indianapolis, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Oregon could all easily support teams. If I could put the Athletics anywhere, I'd put them in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. It would be a return to their original roots, it would give the Phillies a financial pinch, and I'd have a local team that's not a division rival. Win-win-win!

  9. These games are kind of past due. I seem to be suffering from a mid-season malaise. With the long All Star break I've almost forgotten that it's still baseball season. Anyway, the three games played against the Cubs last weekend will close some time over the weekend. These games are very undervoted; two of them only have five votes and the other has six. If anyone else cares to chime in, please try to do so today. Schaefer POTG 7/6/12 - Cubs 8, Mets 7 Schaefer POTG, 7/7/2012: Mets 3 Cubs 1 Schaefer POTG 07/08/2012 Chicago 7, Mets 0
  10. I'd pick 38 for him.
  11. Interesting. In 42 years as a baseball fan, I don't think I've ever heard that one before.
  12. I hate singular names. Thankfully MLB hasn't had any teams with names like that... yet. I hope it continues. And I would call a Vegas team the Las Vegas Stars.
  13. The article in the Daily News about Gee today had a sidebox showing Gee's stats for 2012. It was titled, "WHO GETS THE ROCK?" I have no idea what that means.
  14. soupcan wrote: Yup. Just like the Rockies should have been the Denver Bears and the D'Bags should have been the Phoenix Rattlers. Phoneix Rattlers? I seem to remember the AAA team being called the Phoenix Firebirds.
  15. I would want a Portland team to be called the "Beavers" but I don't think MLB has enough guts to let that happen.
  16. Charlotte and Nashville.
  17. It seemed reasonable.
  18. I got 17 right. I had no idea for Niese, Parnell, Rauch, Beato, Byrdak, Batista, Quintanilla, and Torres. I got Justin Turner and Kirk Nieuwenhuis' numbers by accident, because I must have been too slow in typing Ike Davis' number, but I would have known both of those anyway. It seems like I do a lot better with position players than pitchers.
  19. Wow! I hope I'm nowhere near the stadium when this situation, inevitably, occurs.
  20. I went to MBTN to peek at the list of Mets who wore number 5 as I was completely drawing a blank on previous 5's, other than Davey Johnson. I should have remember Olerud, but I was really surprised about Steve Henderson. I had no recollection that he was a 5. If somebody had asked me his number, I would have been dumbfounded to realize that I had no idea. I'm no longer good at retaining current uniform numbers (Dillon Gee? No idea! John Maine? Can't recall!) but back then I knew that stuff cold. I can't believe that at some point my brain decided that Steve Henderson's uniform number was no longer important.
  21. I'd like it to be Harvey, but I think it will be Hefner or Batista. I voted Hefner.
  22. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I think he's going to have a hard time fighting off Harvey and Wheeler sooner or later. I agree. Assuming they both join the Mets rotation within the next year or two, I think that one of them will probably displace Young, and the other, depending on how things go, would displace Gee or Santana.
