  1. I first read it as first former Met to win an MVP award. I think that would be Kevin Mitchell?
  2. First Official Save by a Met Tug McGraw First Met to hit a Home Run as a DH Carl Everett First (and only) Met to hit 200 doubles in one calendar decade (not just a 10-year span) David Wright First Met to score 100 runs in a season Tommie Agee First Met to play 162 games in a season Felix Millan First Met to get a hit in a foreign country Ron Swoboda First future Met to homer against the Mets Duke Snider First (and only) Met to play 1,000 games in one calendar decade Mookie Wilson First future Met to win an MVP award Willie Mays First Met to get a post-season hit Tommie Agee
  3. Article in the Daily News today quotes some FAN official as saying that they plan to simulcast on AM "for as long as they can." I have no idea what they mean by that.
  4. That sucks for me, too. I can't get FM stations from NYC on my car radio. In recent years, with my Extra Innings subscription and the Mets sucking, I've rarely listened on the radio, but if the Mets ever get good again, I won't like not being able to listen to the games.
  5. Thanks! Every once in a while one of these cards that I create makes me actually smell bubble gum, and that 1971-style strikeout leaders card was one of them.
  6. I read a full article on Newsday.com the other day. Did they quietly (or maybe not-so-quietly) end the paid subscription requirement?
  7. Ryerson can't be any worse that what we already have.
  8. Washington vs. Baltimore. Washington because of Davey Johnson. And Baltimore because of, well, because of Davey Johnson!
  9. The last out of the no-hitter. It was really the only baseball thing that stirred me at all in 2012. Even when the Mets were winning in the first few months of the season, I never got the sense that I was rooting for a contending team and I never really engaged with the team this year.
  10. The Daily News has its annual Keep Him or Dump Him survey.
  11. I don't see much reason to be optimistic about 2013. And I can see why Wright or Dickey might not be enthused about staying. I feel myself disconnecting from this team more and more.

Thanks Bud. This is so much fairer. Yes to this. I agree. I don't like this new system. I like that it makes the division title meaningful, but the one-game playoff leaves us open to more travesties like we'll have if the Cardinals unseat the Braves tomorrow. I'd prefer it if this one-game playoff was instead a best-of-three.
  13. SCHAEFER METS PLAYER AND PITCHERS OF THE MONTH, SEPTEMBER 2012 The Schaefer Mets Player of the Month for September 2012 is R. A. DICKEY. This is R.A.'s third time as Player of the Month in 2012 and his fourth time overall. It's also his tenth time as Pitcher of the Month, breaking a tie with Johan Santana for the most Pitcher of the Month awards in Schaefer history. R.A. has now won the award in eight of the last nine months. (The only exception was Jon Niese's win in July of this year.) Dickey was 3-2 in September with a 2.97 ERA in 36.1 innings and five starts. Second-place finisher David Wright was the leading position player in September, slashing a not-too-impressive .258/.301/.423 with 4 home runs and 13 runs batted in. The Schaefer Mets Relief Pitcher of the Month is a second-time winner, BOBBY PARNELL. In September, Bobby led the Mets with 2 saves and had an ERA of 0.75 in 12 innings and 13 games. Manny Acosta finished a close second to Parnell. His September ERA was 0.90 in 10 innings and 11 games. The Schaefer Mets Bench Player of the Month for September is KELLY SHOPPACH. Kelly batted only .149 in September, but he can credit his Schaefer award to his ninth-inning heroics in the Mets come-from-behind victory in Miami on September 1. Updated award winner standings, with this month's winners in bold: PLAYER OF THE MONTH David Wright 13 Johan Santana 6 Carlos Beltran 5 Jose Reyes 5 R. A. Dickey 4 Cliff Floyd 2 Tom Glavine 2 Carlos Delgado 2 Ike Davis 2 Mike Cameron 1 John Maine 1 Angel Pagan 1 Jeff Francoeur 1 Daniel Murphy 1 Lucas Duda 1 Ruben Tejada 1 PITCHER OF THE MONTH R. A. 14. The 0.02 points awarded to Jason Bay averaged down to zero, so he does not appear in the results.
  15. Kershaw out of the game. He wins the ERA title, Dickey will be the strikeout king.
  16. After 8 innings, Kershaw is one strikeout behind Dickey.
  17. That's one of the many reasons why I'm skeptical about the "Jason Bay won't have to compete for a job in the spring" stories we've been seeing. Terry seems to have given up on Bay, and deservedly so. I have to think that that portends how it will be next year, if Bay somehow makes the team. (Which I also highly doubt.)
  18. Dodgers eliminated, Kershaw pitching anyway. Let's hope there are a lot of earned runs and few strikeouts.
  19. G-Fafif wrote: Pitching with one ab tied behind his back...or something like that...he wins 20 games and contends strongly for the Cy Young. I'm thinking that maybe they shouldn't fix it.
  20. Okay, so the Triple Crown is out. He's not going to lead the league in wins, and ERA is unlikely, unless Kershaw gets rocked tomorrow. If the Dodgers are eliminated today, however, Kershaw may not pitch tomorrow which, if nothing else, would clinch the strikeout title for Dickey. If Kershaw does pitch, he'll need 9 strikeouts to tie Dickey, and 10 to pass him. So R.A. may not end up with any of the big three titles.
