  1. Adam Rubin wrote: NEW YORK -- The New York Mets have offered a contract extension to David Wright that would keep the All-Star third baseman with the club at least through 2020, a major league source told ESPNNewYork.com. The source said Wright had been offered at least a seven-year extension by the Mets, on top of the $16 million he is owed for 2013. A second source who has spoken with Mets officials said "they've been really optimistic" an extension will be reached with Wright. The 30-year-old Wright became the franchise's leader in hits, runs, walks and RBIs during the 2012 season. "There are offers going back and forth," the source said. A source familiar with the matter did not believe the deal would be finalized before next week's winter meetings. "It could, but it's certainly speculative that it will," a different source added.

  3. Ceetar wrote: there is no salary cap, hence infinite. Do you have infinite money to spend?
  4. Where can I get me some of that infinite money?
  5. I think that will get it done. (Depending on the amount of the "excess", of course.)
  6. Bumping this thread just because it's so much fun.
  7. From what I'm hearing, it doesn't sound like they're too far apart; a few more dollars and a contract that lasts through 2020 should get the deal done. The Mets might be able to get away with 2020 being an option year.
  8. Nobody picked a Cy Young Award for R.A.
  9. These are the movies from Vic's list that I haven't seen. Two of them, Around the World in 80 Days and Doctor Zhivago, are currently on my DVR. And there are four (The Exorcist, Avatar, American Grafitti, West Side Story) that I saw for the first time in the last few months. The Ten Commandments (1956) Doctor Zhivago (1965) Ben-Hur (1959) Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999) Mary Poppins (1964) Love Story (1970) Cleopatra (1963) The Robe (1953) Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006) Around the World in 80 Days (1956) The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003) The Greatest Show on Earth (1952) The Passion of the Christ (2004) Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005) The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002) The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) The Best Years of Our Lives (1946) The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009) Swiss Family Robinson (1960) Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002) Mrs. Doubtfire (1993) Duel in the Sun (1946) Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003) Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)
  10. I also don't see what the problem is with being in Ottawa. It's not as close as Binghamton, but it's still a lot closer than Las Vegas. I personally have no problem with this. I was never likely to go to Binghamton anyway. The only time I would ever see the B-Mets play was when they would come to Reading (and I rarely go to Reading) and the O-Mets will be in Reading as frequently as the B-Mets.
  11. I hope he has a sister named "Gretl".
  12. Still looking for an explanation of the "libertarian viewpoint"
  13. I saw this thread title and was afraid that Gary Cohen got mixed up in the Elmo scandal.
  14. I had never seen The Exorcist until a few weeks ago. Same with Raging Bull. Haven't seen any of the recent three Star Wars films. I've never seen a movie with Adam Sandler in it. I have Thelma and Louise in my DVR, but at the moment I've still never seen it. Still haven't seen Moneyball.
  15. Mets Willets Point wrote: I'm giving it 4.5 points only because of the rightwing/libertarian indoctrination points (from the so-called liberal Hollywood) keep it from being a perfect movie. It's been a long time since I've seen the movie. Can you elaborate? I recall when I saw Ghostbusters for the first time (about 30 years ago!?!) it reminded me of Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein in that they both nicely blend comedy and horror elements.
  16. This is how we reacted when the Mets signed R.A. Dickey a few years ago.
  17. I feel like Red Buttons just stepped up to the podium.
  18. Here's the full list: Juan Acevedo, Miguel Batista, Armando Benitez, Felix Heredia, Al Leiter, Graeme Lloyd, Darren Oliver, Dave Weathers (And Carlos Delgado.)
  19. Wait... who is that? I'm having a hard time seeing through that disguise.
  20. I'd like to see Mr. Met on the uniform sleeve. This image for position players: And this image for pitchers: And I'd even reverse the image for left-handed pitchers and hitters!
  21. Weathers was a Blue Jay as well as a Met and a Marlin. Felix Heredia is a correct answer.
  22. Leiter and Benitez are correct.
  23. I posted this mini-quiz on the UMDB Facebook page: Jose Reyes spent many years with the Mets, signed as a free agent with the Marlins and now, after a single season, appears to be about to become a Toronto Blue Jay. That's the same career path that Carlos Delgado experienced, only in reverse order. There are eight other players, all pitchers, who played for the Mets, Marlins, and Blue Jays. How many can you name?
  24. I like them, but I hope they're not used too frequently, especially at home. Like Edgy, I prefer white at home and grey on the road.
