  1. I've only attended five games at Citi Field since it opened, but each time I was able to get one of those free under-the-overpass spots.
  2. You Make the Call: Ramon Ramirez
  3. I thought he would turn out to be pretty good, as I recall. Oh well.
  4. The only film on that list that I've seen and really liked was Ed Wood.
  5. This is where the new rules are killing Bourn. In years past, he could always sign a one-year contract and then try free agency again the following year. But now, with the potential loss of a draft pick, that one-year deal is less attractive to may clubs. The Mets certainly aren't in a position to give up a draft pick for a one-year player; only a team that's very close to being a championship-level club should consider such a thing. The Mets would need at least two, probably three, years from Bourn to make it worthwhile. Maybe the pieces will fall into place; I read today that David Wright has initiated courtship rituals with Bourn, so who knows? If the contract isn't crippling, I'd be okay with losing the pick for three years of Bourn.
  6. I don't like the idea of anything in the Citi parking lot other than parking spaces. I know it's horrible to be stuck in the middle of a large parking lot after the game, but without that big lot there would be much more competition for the free "under the overpass" spots that I prefer. During the Citi Field construction, when I'd go to Shea I would park in Manhattan and take the subway to the game. A lot more time-consuming.
  7. I agree that Ed Norton was the best Bruce Banner.
  8. I think he did when he was in San Francisco. Not sure about in Oakland.
  9. We may be setting the bar a bit low here, but I suspect that Cowgill will prove to be better than a seven-year-old boy. Me, I'm going to reserve judgment. Cowgill may very well turn out to be a nothing, but he also may be a pleasant surprise. Let's see what happens.
  10. I don't get it either. I mean, if they give him $8 million for 2013, it's foolish, but if they get him cheap enough, then why not? There will be plenty of bullpen innings to go around this year, and guys like Edgin and Carson and Mejia will still get to show what they can (or can't) do. And Lyon is young enough that, if the Mets do return to contention in the next few years, he can be a part of that.
  11. If everything happens in threes, if my name was Earl W., I'd be pretty nervous right around now.
  12. Jeremy Renner played a clip on the Letterman show that made it look like Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters might be a fun tongue-in-cheek kind of movie. Of course, it's very hard to judge a movie from a 20-second clip.
  13. Adam Rubin wrote: Sandy Alderson, who expressed serious concern with Frank Francisco as his closer, is trying to remedy the situation. Alderson is pursuing Jose Valverde to compete -- or more likely unseat -- Francisco as closer, a baseball source told ESPNNewYork.com. The deal with Scott Boras over Valverde would have to be on the Mets' terms, though. That means it would probably be akin to the contract to which Shaun Marcum agreed -- $4 million base, with a similar amount in incentives based on games finished or saves, in Valverde's case.
  14. That's so we can set up our direct deposits to send some money directly to Jeff.
  15. Well, their only interest is to be fair to the teams. As you say, if they were looking to be fair to the players there wouldn't be a draft at all.
  16. Edgy MD wrote: Too much is made of Scott Boras. He's just a man. Yes. If he refuses to let his player sign for fewer than five years, and you only want to offer three, then you don't sign the guy. If nobody offers five, then he'll eventually have to settle for four. Or three. Or two.
  17. That would be weird. A large Staten Island with feet running around in the outfield.
  18. That is truly bizarre. The Mets should totally do something like that. Giant caricatures of Seaver and Strawberry and Hernandez and Piazza roaming around the ballpark.
  19. Ken Rosenthal wrote: Source: Union would support #Mets if team asked MLB to allow it to forfeit 2nd-round pick instead of 1st for signing Michael Bourn.
  20. That's pretty much where I am too. I had never heard of the guy either, but it's great to have him!
  21. I think I'd be okay with three years. Maybe four. (We have to keep in mind, though, that Jason Bay's four-year contract was way too long. Four years too long!) A four-year deal would still end before Bourn's 35th birthday. Anything less than three years probably isn't worth giving up the draft pick. And anything over four is too risky. My guess is that this won't happen, but the longer Bourn goes unsigned, the more likely it becomes.
  22. The way I look at it, is Bourn somebody for whom we'd be willing to trade a draft pick? If the Mets are expecting to contend (and I hope they are) during the term of his contract, then the answer to that may very well be yes.
  23. Quintanilla gets a shot too, doesn't he?
