  1. How much longer before the Mets try to lure Skip Lockwood out of retirement?
  2. As I recall it, the story at the time, nine years ago, was that Boras did go to the Yankees and say he would sign for less than the Mets were offering.
  3. Batmagadan is talking to himself again.
  4. That's weird. I go to the April 5 game, paste the URL into another browser session, and it opens the April 4 game. I switched the link to ESPN.com instead.
  5. I voted 5 too. I liked it, but I guess I'm more willing to suspend my disbelief for super soldier serums and Norse gods and gamma-ray monsters than I am for vast hidden conspiracies. It definitely had its moments, but Cap's first movie was better than his second movie.
  6. Davis 1.5 Farnsworth 1 Germen 1.25 Lagares 1.25 Niese 2.25 Valverde 1
  7. Voting for last Wednesday's loss to the Nationals will close on Tuesday morning, some time after 10 a.m. Schaefer POTG 4/2/14 - Nationals 5, Mets 1
  8. Box score Gee 3 Granderson 2 Davis 3 Torres 1 Rice 1
  9. Duda 4.5 Mejia 3.5 Farnsworth 1 Valverde 1
  10. Instead of watching the game tonight, I'll be watching Scarlet Johansson. Oh, and Captain America too.

And the other thing, too, that I really felt bad about is that Daniel Murphy and [his wife] Tori Murphy were dragged into a conversation, and their whole life was exposed. And it shouldnt have been. And that is my fault. Boomer apologized. Will Francesa? (I doubt it!)
  12. Edgy MD wrote: I don't know that they have to be told anything. You want to see if you're the firstbaseman? Check the lineup card. I feel the same way, but as JCL says, the modern ballplayer doesn't function well that way. As we've seen with the bullpen usage, players need to "know their role" more than in the past.
  13. There was a time last season, sometime around mid-June, where the Mets were in such a malaise, and Terry seemed so helpless and frustrated, that a firing seemed imminent. But the team snapped out of it (they won 8 out of 12 starting June 16) and that probably saved Terry's job. I do think that Terry's two-year deal makes it pretty likely that he'll last the season, but a prolonged dismal stretch could get them to overlook that second year. If there's a stretch where they go 3-20 or something like that he can very well find himself gone. I don't expect that to happen, and I certainly hope it doesn't happen, but that's what I think it would take for the Mets to change managers in 2014.
  14. The total of 0.01 points awarded to Ike Davis averaged down to zero, so he does not appear in the results.
  15. My guess is that is Terry is making a decision it's more for psychological than on-the-field reasons. He may be feeling that the uncertainty of who is going to be in the lineup on any given day is harming both Duda and Davis, and he wants to end that uncertainty as best he can. That's my guess, anyway.

  17. Terry says he's going to pick a first baseman and stick with him for a while. (He's not saying who yet; probably wants to talk to the players before he says anything to the press.) So who will it be? Who do you hope it is? I find myself thinking it will be Duda. I don't think I'm rooting for one or the other, but I am curious.
  18. I don't do "woe is me." All I'm saying is that I don't want to drive three hours each way to see this team.
  19. Box score Wheeler 2 Granderson 1 Lagares 1
  20. True. But they do look awful. I don't think it will be this bad throughout the season, but it's definitely a very bad start.
  21. I usually like to go to Citi Field in early April so that I can get there before all hope has drained from the season. I was thinking I would go on Saturday, but I'm feeling a strange lack of motivation to drive to Queens to see this club. I'm going to see the Mets play two games in Seattle in July; maybe that will be it for me.
  22. I think the Mets may have to go with a 17-man pitching staff.
  23. Zack is pitching to his first batter of the sixth inning and he's at 92 pitches. He has to get that pitch count down or he'll rarely go more than six.
  24. Sorry, but I think it's gonna be Eric Young.
  25. Lagares playing like he wants to stay in the lineup.
